Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel Death's Cold Embrace!"

Sub-Zero's rushdown playing style is very underrated, and IMO is his best playing style.

Though, this comes from a person that also plays rushdown Noob.

Knowing when and how to rush the opponent with Sub-Zero is very important, but imho is not his best playing style.
The key to win the most matches with Sub-Zero, is patience.
You must have a lot of patience, take advantage of the clone everytime you can, trap your opponent and destroy him.
Take your time, every round has 90 seconds...no need to go crazy.

As someone who is now using Sub more than any other character, I'm finding the above to be very true along with someone who said he's a "counterer". From my experience (which admittedly isn't much), I set the other player up, let them get trapped, and then go in for the kill. If they avoid me, then the match often lasts a while. I won a round yesterday with time running out. But a win is a win.

This is the strategy that makes me want to track down my opponents IP Address and punch them in the face X)

Then they're doing their jobs lol. =P

I'm done facing this guy X)

Here is my two cents sub-zero in nature is a defensive counter character although is a solid way to play him it won't win harder matches or against really sick rushdown characters. Well let me say it differently zoning gets beat by rushdown and rushdown gets beat by defensive play. Alot of you guys will start crying If you think straight defensive play is the way. To go try play sub vs sub both trying to play defensive very frustrating play more offensive and less like a pansy wins games.

Quick question: Is Force Claw after Ice Ball considered a reset?

Yes you can do

2,2 or B+1,2 and then Iceball, do double dash (the double dash is for the timing, you are close to the opponent) and then Force Claws.

For example

B+1,2 - Iceball - Double Dash (this is for timing only) - Force Claws - Dash - B+1,2 - 2,1,2 - Slide/Xray

Ill add this combos and how to do the reset in the guide. Ill do it soon.

B+1,2 - Iceball - Double Dash (this is for timing only) - Force Claws - Dash - B+1,2 - 2,1,2 - Slide/Xray

^^^^^
This is why I asked. Great 63% combo if you start with Forward Jump Punch and switch 2,1,2 for 2,1,4 in the end.

Really? I thought that it caught you if you hit any buttons at all. Is it a consistent escape?

I've written this alrdy a few times ..u can escape Subs B2 (if his timing is off) by:

- Jumping back (no so safe)
- Jumping forward (not so safe)
- Low poking (d3/1/4 - depends on the fastest)
- Standing Fast normals (Johnnys Punches for example)
- Fast Specials (Reptiles Dash, Raidens superman, etc)
- Anything u are able to do fast ;)

Not move at all is the best way to escape

Huh, dunno how I missed those earlier posts. Thanks for the update either way lol.

np ^^

u just have to watch out for "B2 -> early dash cancel -> 22" (;

I main Sub-Zero, so my interest in how to break out of the reset rests firmly in the realm of "I LOVE Subby and am a voracious learner", not necessarily so I can escape though you can never really know too much lol.

Either way, good stuff. =)

I made an important life decision today: I'm going to make Sub-Zero my main. I'm already decent with his combos, I just need to practice with his different strategies. I played a few matches with him today when I used his Ice Clone very effectively, and then there were others where it didn't go so well. I'll be reading this thread more thoroughly this weekend when I have the time to practice!

Do you really want to main this guy? ;)
