SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Did they say how long the comic will last? Is it going to lead up until the release of the game?

It sounds like it will be going on after as well. The solicit for the print comic in March mentions how it's the conclusion to the first arc; they wouldn't say that if it's the only one!

Guys, just to clarify: this issue takes place DURING MKX. Not before, but DURING. MKX takes place in a time period spanning immediately after the MK9 ending up to 25 years later. This sounds like it takes place 2-7 years into the timeline (depending on whether the Netherrealm War occurs in Year Zero or Year Five - hell, the war might last those five years if it is the former) . Comic writer should have done a better job of clarifying this WITHIN the comic.

Edit: MKX will not be two halves, as some posters earlier in the thread theorized. It's more like 5-6 sections in increments of five years (5 years in, 10, 15, 20, 25). This issue takes place between two of these sections. IIRC, though, one of the devs said 90% of the story takes place 25 years in, which makes me question the importance of the MK4 arc.

From the sound of it, Scorpion learns about what Quan did relatively early in the timeline, which is great. He can finally stop being a cardboard character, hopefully. I was worried they were gonna drag it out and have it be his arc for this game, which wouldn't have been very evolutionary of the franchise.

Excited to finally see some new stories.

I never thought Scorpion was a hollow character and now he has gain something to do.

He was NEVER portrayed as this.

He has always been portrayed as a vengeful spirit, with a very interesting and well develop background, alongside Sub-Zero.

Hollow is something he never was.

The major problem with the character is that they took too long to make him realize things, and they kept binding him with Sub-Zero, instead of giving him the chance to find redemption and AT THE LEAST being neutral with Sub-Zero, who was on that time Kuai Liang.

On MK:A they also put him once again on the vengeance thing, and put him on Darkness with a (now the word is correct)hollow explanation. With MK9, they made him Quan Chi's housemaid.

I think now they are doing what should have been done in MK4, making him find peace, control.

But hollow he never was. One of the deepest character of the series, deals with a lot of themes.

I agree with Taj, there just seems to be too much pointing at the events being after MK9...

You can make an arguement that it is before MK9, but you'd be really trying to make sense out of things and forcing things that really don't work that way.

Unfortunately MK history has repeated itself so many damn times its really hard to say whether its an alternate version of MKM plot or MKD plot, seeing as Bi Han and Shujinko both followed pretty similar journeys with some different factors and events. That being said, you change a few things on either Bi Han or Shujinko's plot and you now have what could be MKX's events.

It makes sense if you read the comic, but I doubt that NRS wants to make their new story more complicated by retconning and adding events (Netherrealm War) out of nowhere.

One thing I think you guys are missing here is if it was PRE-MK9 or PRE-MK1 then it would be impossible for Subby to have his scar already being that nowhere in MK9 did he have it.

Guess I was wrong about this chapter already starting us off being 15 years after MK9--sounds like all of the ones after it will be jumping to that point in time, though.

I'm starting to question whether this backstory is unnecessary to understand the game's storyline. They're getting awfully convoluted with this whole thing. I just hope they're more clear on when in the timeline something is going on. The MK storyline is already a joke in terms of consistency and I wish they would clean up their act.

I seem to recall that the Injustice comic explained what happened pre-game story, the whole thing with Superman and the Joker blowing up Metropolis. It wasn't "necessary", but it was a bit of info that'd be nice to have before starting the game.

Hollow is the wrong word, I think. More like one-dimensional. He's always been about revenge and nothing more. It's about time things were different, but I wouldn't cross my fingers. I don't see his new clan having a happy ending, so he'll be back to being a revenge-obsessed madman in no time. That's always been his thing and I don't think it'll change now.

I think they are doing with him now what they didn't have the guts to do in the past. Seemed like they had some fear of doing what naturally should happen with him. Now they have this courage.

I don't know, depends on who will take Outworld...I think this is something that will tell us about happy endings.

"I AM the flashing lights and special effects."

Yeah I don't know where people thought this issue was 15 years after MK9...

Even though Kittelson said the majority of the comic will take place during the 15 years after period, it's clear that this first issue wasn't during that time.

Two reasons why, first the comic said "years ago" or something along those lines, as well as Kittelson himself saying "a few years after MK9". Last I checked, a few is nowhere close to 15.

Gosh you MK Fans and your confusion!

I liked it. It wasn't perfect or anything to jump up and down about. But I enjoyed it.

The confusion with which Sub Zero we're seeing, how Scorpion found a way to control his rage, Kenshi and his relationship with Sonya/Special Forces... These things should have been explained a bit more. At the moment, it's hard for to me really love the comic when nothing makes sense. But it's only issue one... So I'll give it some time. The writing isn't that great. There's some really cheesy lines in there. And again, everything is far too vague for its own good.

Loved seeing Hsu Hao get f***** up, though. lol
