I picked Quan Chi just because I'd actually use him. I've never been a Rain fan, but I'm not gonna hate on him like a lot of other people.

More importantly, aside from personal opinions for each character, what i wanna know from you all is whats more important to a reboot game like this one - including a character with significant impact on the story at the time, but had nothing to do with the 2D games (Quan Chi), or including a character from the 2D games, but had minimal impact on the story at the time (Rain)?

Discuss!

Because Ed asked about Rain being DLC and he didn't ask about Quan Chi, I can only assume that Quan Chi will make the initial roster and Rain will end up as DLC, but I actually like Rain more. :(

I think they should both be in. But for the sake of the argument, Rain should be in. He could be expanded upon a lot and he actually has always had a really cool moveset, plus he's part of the original Trilogy cast.

I would take rain for the gameplay and simply because he is my 3rd favorite ninja, But I would take Quan Chi for the story. No matter what I better see both in the game

Okay... Listen good... You ready for this?

RAIN. ISN'T. A. PALETTE. SWAP. ANYMORE.

None of the ninjas are. I'm so sick of this shit logic.

"Get rid of X. He/she is a palette swap!"

What the ****? Really? They're all completely different characters. The only reason they were 'palette swaps' was because it made things A LOT easier for the MK Team.

I agree with your logic, but I just can't stand the fact they pulled out some characters out of recycled ninjas just to fill spots instead of trying to introduce new characters. Also it's not only a matter of palette swap, their moveset too was recycled from other characters, total lazyness!
They were OK in the 2D days as secrets etc., but should have stayed there.
That's my opinion about, I want new unique characters like Kano, Kung Lao, Goro, otherwise it's just cheap to put a mask on a nameless model and make a character out of him.

...Rain or Quan Chi they're both awesome, the subject of this poll is not to determine who's best LOL, but to see what people like to see as DLC more...i respect both Quan Chi and Rain equaly actually!

Quan Chi. I hate rain, in fact Rain is one of my MOST hated Character and I NEVER want him in. No offense to all of you Rain fans...

...LOL and i'm neither fan of these two actually and i could care less if both of them wouldn't be in MK 2011, but thats not all about me, do you get what i mean? ^^

I don't really get why it's between these two in particular but Rain. I mean, I would obviously want both of them in the original game but Rain was actually in UMK3.

Quan Chi, just so this game isn't UMK3/MKT 2.0, Rain can wait as DLC, we have enough ninjas as-is.

Edit: To answer Taj's question, I'd much rather have a character who had a significant impact on the story, which is another reason I want Quan Chi in. Rain initially came in as a joke character and a palette swap just to stretch the memory. Quan Chi has impacted the MK story so much more and it would be cool to see him in a 2D game (there's always a first).

Rain can be DLC for all I care. In fact, I wouldn't care if he wasn't in at all. So many of the other classic characters from MK1-3 made it in, so one little insignificant character people usually are neutral about isn't going to break the game. Heck I'll even take Kenshi, Tanya, and the red woman over Rain. (And no I do not hate Rain...just saying that I'm open to other characters as a huge MK fan).

His roundhouse kick was a favorite move of mine :)

lol I guess I'll answer your question. It seems that including a character that will add more to the story would be what's best. But this is some sort of reboot so they could get Rain more involved, but I doubt they could incorporate Rain into the story in such a way that he becomes more important than Quan Chi. So i guess Quan Chi would be the best choice based on that logic....still didn't vote for him though. ;]

Yeah here's an idea for Rain's story. He's believed all this time that he's an Edenian, but what he doesn't realize is that he's really the son of an Earthrealm Prince named Theart Istfor Merlyknownas. His father was an elitist who thought his birth name too divine for his subjects to be referring to him with. So instead he allowed them to call him "Prince", or to write a symbol that he created as a means for them to address him. One day his son was out playing in a storm while his father was practicing guitar when one of Shao Kahn's outworld portals opened, sucking him in causing him to land on his head and causing amnesia. He awoke in the palace of Kitana, having been rescued in a terrible storm by her. Since the boy was rescued in a terrible storm, they decided to call him Rain. Given the boy had no prior memory and was wearing a purple clothing when he awoke, he developed an affinity for the color and designed all subsequent garb in purple.

His Ending - While Rain was victorious over Shao Kahn, he never regained the memory of his former life. His father, discovered he was gone, and shortly after went into hiding during Shao Kahn's attempted invasion of Earth Realm. He never lost the memory of his son, or what happened that day: The rainstorm from outworld had poured into Earth realm on that day when his father discovered he was missing. And, having his last memory of his son being him wearing his favorite purple shirt, he renounced his royalty for a life path in music. He would go on to write a song about his son and become one of the greatest pop artists of all time.

Rain needs to stay bad. All Shao Kahn's warriors are bloody turning good (Kitana, Jade, Ermac, Sheeva, & Sindel) or neutral (Scorps wants to hold Subby's hand after he found out he killed his brother and Goro suffers from bipolarism)
