Shinnok, Quan Chi and the Original Timeline

Remember Shinnok's ending in Mortal Kombat Armageddon and how it revealed that the Shinnok fighting was actually a magical clone since the real one's still trapped in the Netherrealm? And remember how Shinnok "supposedly" planned Shao Kahn's merging of Earthrealm and Outworld in MK9 in order to get rid of him?

WELL.

What if The Shinnok from the Armageddon timeline did the same thing Raiden did and sent visions to HIS younger self in the MK9 timeline? Since the real Shinnok in the Armageddon timeline was still in the Netherrealm, he was at a safe distance to do pretty much anything.

Also note Quan Chi's influence in the MK9 story, instead of Shang Tsung being the one to resurrect Sindel it's Quan Chi and Shang Tsung's soul and collection of souls was given to the now dead Sindel. Maybe that was also part of the MK9 Shinnok's new plan since he saw different opportunities with the knowledge he now has.

This is all just speculation and stuff but it was just something I thought about while doing research on Quan Chi and Shinnok in preparation for MKX

This is good idea, but i doubt they didn't just include Quan Chi in the story because of his popularity.

I hate Quan Chi with a passion.
Just so sick of him one upping every character in the series.

He's pulled shit on Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn & others and has never gotten what was coming to him. I can't stand villains that always have that "this was all apart of my plan" bullshit.

I was actually implying all of this being MK9 Shinnok's plan due to his new knowledge and changing Quan Chi's orders.

If your speculation was right, I think that the story will be so great and Shinnok will be considered the most badass character in the whole series.

That's what make Quan Chi my favorite :D, I think MK without Quan Chi is a minus point.

Well, Boon hinted that the main boss will be one very few people will expect, so Shinnok cannot simply be that one because that's what everyone is already expecting...

I sincerely hope Shinnok will be in X. Shinnok, Tanya, Reiko, Jarek, Kai, Fujin and Meat for that matter. I really think MK4 characters deserve a shot in their 2D counterparts, but Boon already said there will be a ton of new characters for X so...

However I don't think the storyline will have anything to do with MK4 unfortunately. That is, Netherrealm invading Earthrealm. Considering this happens 20 years into the future, there will be a lot going on. The only "good" guys from the classic trilogy alive are Raiden, Johnny Cage and Sonya...

That's what makes him kewl. The bad guys are supposed to be Category 5 douchebags.

I was hoping Shinnok to be the big main bad of MKX, but with the time jumps in the story as revealed by Ed Boon, it seems very unlikely. Kind of a bummer really, cause Shinnok really had the potential to be a much more menacing threat than Shao Kahn, he was MK's devil incarnate himself.

I was actually looking forward to Shinnok being the main threat in MKX. The timeline thing sure messes all that up. They can always give him a big role in the story mode and make him playable. The battle him and Raiden had in the Armageddon intro was amazing and would love to see the two of them clash again on next gen graphics!

Actually considering all of the information I laid out in the original post, I've come to another theory:
What if the final boss in this game is Blaze? Like, giant Blaze from MKA?

Shinnok could have used the knowledge from the Armageddon timeline to manipulate events such as Shao Kahn's demise and the deaths of most of the Earthrealm warriors to lighten up the number of people that would have been at the Edenian crater and pyramid of Argus. Thus after 25 years when Blaze awakens Shinnok will try to seize the opportunity. Keep in mind that in the original timeline, Armageddon happens a good while after MK3 so anything's possible :)

Also Raiden's screwing with certain events did NOT prevent Armageddon anyway, it just made sure that Shao Kahn didn't get the power of Blaze so again, anything's possible at this point. Especially since Taven and Daegon are STILL a thing in the lore whether NRS wants to ignore them or not. Though I'm not 100% sure NRS even remembers/knows most of their own lore that well so they may have forgotten details like this.

Yeah, Blaze would make sense.
Onaga was also manipulating Shujinko since before the first game so he should still be around too.

They could always just ignore everything post mk4, but I hope they don't do that.

The actual and more logical story route NRS had planned for Armageddon was Onaga being an instrument of The One Being. The kamidogu were relics that ensured the realms's stability and kept the one being at bay. Having Shujinko take them out of their realms, besides granting Onaga quite a lot of power, also facilitated The One Being's return as indicated Onaga's secret arcade ending in MKD. Im guessing the plan was to have Shujinko defeat Onaga by destroying each of the kamidogu (like we do in the gameplay too) to weaken and ultimately vanquish him. This in fact led to more instability in the already unstable realms, eventually leading to armageddon, symbolizing the rise of The One Being.

I hope they revisit or acknowledge this story arc in the new timeline, I would really love to see this play out better.

I think that shinnok's invasion will happen and several MK4 Character will be involved. Tanya, Fujin, Reiko, Quan Chi and Shinnok. then I believe that the Dragon King, Shujinko, Taven and Blazes story will be told with a different outcome resulting in Lui Kang becoming the One Being AKA the Boss.

I always feel Quan Chi would end up going
