So why not make two different MK games set in alternative universes and release them at the same time? One where the series mainstays like Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kitana, Nightwolf etc, are still alive and well, while the other game has them in the grave while new faces fight in their stead.
I mean come on guys, the characters that got killed in mk9 were NO THROWAWAYS, these are iconic characters in the series and there's so many more stories that can be told with them.
Or, as Reptil3 mentioned, why can't some of these dead characters stay dead until MK11?
Jax, Sindel, Styrker and Nightwolf are THROWAWAY characters can stay dead, for all I care, and this coming from someone who mained Nightwolf in MK9.
Kitana and Kung Lao can come back as DLC for MKX for all I care, but they have NO relevance to the story in MKX, as far as I'm concerned.
Even in MK9, they were just fodder / filler characters in story mode.
Kabal is another one who doesn't really have much story relevance for MKX and was another fodder / filler character.
Kotal Kahn is the new Nightwolf, IMO, and quite frankly I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned the possibility of Kotal Kahn being a former rival of Nightwolf, given that Apaches and Aztecs were at war with each other in the 1830s thru 1850s, in Mexico.
throwing away half of the more famous characters in the series in favor of an army of JarJars is a horrible idea.
Assuming that the new characters will all be a bunch of JarJars is ignorant and close-minded.
I guess that Quan Chi and Kenshi are JarJars too, huh?
All characters had to have started out somewhere, even MKII and MK3 favorites started off as unknown territory in their prospective debuts.
Just because you don't like 4 of the possible 11+ NEW MK characters, doesn't mean that all the characters are a bunch of garbage.
The second NRS forgets about MK's roots, the second the next MK ceases to be MK, but MK in name only... an empty shell of it's former self.
What if DC killed off Joker, Penguin, Harley Quinn, and Bruce Wayne so the Batman franchise can "evolve"? The fans of the series would be so shrill in rejecting the new iteration of the franchise that DC would slam on the brakes and FIRE every single writer working on the series while plotting an entire slew of retcons to get the series back on track... and I do believe something like that has actually happened with Marvel in recent years.
Since when did MK9 or MKX imply NRS forgetting about MK's roots?
Brutal Fatalities, the fighting game mechanics and all the "roots" of the original MK games seem to be in MKX.
You want to look at forgetting its roots? Look no further than MKvsDC.
MK9 was the reboot game for all the hardcore MK fans, and that's fine, but constantly doing the same shit over and over again and not pushing the franchise forward is also terrible.
Every single character that died isn't needed for MKX, and killing off Joker and Bruce Wayne is a horrible example as NRS isn't likely to kill off its 2 main characters (Scorpion and Sub-Zero) for good.
Also, as long as they have Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden and Liu Kang in, the rest of the roster is pretty much interchangeable as previous games have proven.
I'm a HUGE fan of MK1, MKII, MK3, UMK3 and Trilogy as well, but I also wouldn't want to see NRS being held back (creatively) in going forward with a new story, just because I want a nostalgia trip, and want to be stuck in the 90s.
