Roster Speculation

The Scorp/Subby rivalry has cooled on 2 separate occasions (first from MK2 to the start of MK4, and again from the end of MK4 to Armageddon), so it's not entirely out of the cards. However, it has not been known to stick. That's my main concern about them burying the hatchet.

Their rivalry is the best of the game for me, and maybe for most fans, but maybe it needs more reasons to be kept.

Quan Chi's treachery was well done, you know, securing the map while contracting two high skilled warriors, putting both in a fight to the death knowing that the fallen would join him in the NR, and killing whole Shiray Ryu clan in the probability that Hanzo would die, also paying the Lin Kuei services with that and saying SubZero was the responsible.

But Raiden knows this, Scorpion has been fooled for too long. Those two together would do a hell of a job.
 
I think in a marketing stand point of view, Scorpion and Sub-Zero fighting each other looks cool. It's like why Ryu and Ken always fight each other in Street Fighter ads. I agree Scorpion hating Sub-Zero is getting pretty old. I did like how Scorpion did move on after MK4 since he try to go after Quan Chi in MKDA and try to defeat Onaga in hopes for the Elder Gods to bring back his clan.

About the Champion of the Elder Gods, yeah, he does the dirty job and that toothless worms (really cool name given by Kahn) betray him that way.

Scorpion is no villain, he only wants peace. Was stripped from his family and used.

For this, also for being omissive deities pretending to be judges, egocentric...I hope each one of them become the very realms and the One Being becomes the only Elder God.

Been discussing with a friend about the interest of the One Being on keeping living beings alive if that happened. Well, when among the Elder Gods you had Shinnok and in the future a guy that neglects his son and, to cover the omissive behavior of the others, plays with his two sons as a coin toss, we really don't know if OB is that really bad. Maybe he is the good and the Elder Gods are just evil guardians...
 
Not to deter the previous discussion, but I just wanted to express my assumption that neither CAGE or BLADE will be in MKX roster as playable.......unless we'll be seeing inter-family fatalities on the side of good.

Granted Sindel and Kitana are Mother/Daughter....it's not quite the same. Sindel wasn't quite the "Queen of Edenia" in MK9 that we know she used to be. I.E. being ressurected and "influenced" by Quan Chi.
Not to mention the only playable Sindel has been purely evil.

I think Sonya will.Boon mentioned Cassie doing fatalities on relatives on an interview,hinted at one of them being in.Cassie has a variation called Hollywood that is probably based on Cage's playstyle,thats why I think its Sonya.

I feel like if one of them will be in, it'll be Johnny. Sonya and Cassie are too similar. What I think we'll see is a Johnny that is much like his arcade ending.
 
Hmm, well there is always a time for firsts....at least one or the other. I don't think having the Cage brigade would be a good idea. Especially since they will share styles of kombat.

Well,Cassie is similar to 25 years younger Sonya.But i would prefer Johnny too,father and daughter is more interesting than mother and daughter(wasn't you who said this other day?)

I don't think I was the one who said it. But I agree with it. lol

Personally I want to see that Kano finally cut Sonya down and Cassie is out for blood, finally killing Kano for good.

Disagree partly. I think one of em will be playable at least. Sonya and Johnny were two of the very few serving warriors of light. To not include one of them would be kind of silly. Hell, Ed responded to a question about fatalities on family members with something to the effect of "we thought about that and decided it doesn't matter". I'll try and find the interview
 
Seeing Kano gives me hope for Sektor.
If they're going to put a villain as useless as Kano back in, then Sektor surely will make it.
 
I think Johnny Cage might be the relative that Boon was talking about. His MK9 arcade ending could be true with him trading in Seido. Maybe Hotaru will be his trainer.

To be honest, I'm taking this sudden "leak" of Kano 5% seriously. Rough depiction, poor quality screenshots without the real pic of the mag, plus every single thing EXCEPT the Kano in every shot has already been seen....not to mention that Kano isn't really hype worthy anyway from a majoral aspect....

Seriously people with Youtube channels, Twitter accounts, kiks, etc. etc. that have nothing better to do then to hype and signify nonsense is THE GREATEST MARKETING EVER! Lol.
Youtubers covering this game (excluding maximillion cause he actually tubes the game) are vlogging some of the most irrational, pointless, convaluted and shoddy info, Q+A's, rumors....you know. And people eat it up. Makes them feel good.....gets their gears grinding.

Inadvertently skyrockets sales.....and diminishes actuality....f

Kano wasn't useless! He played a major part in the MK9 story that everyone seems to have forgotten. He supplied the armies of outworld with weapons for the invasion. Sektor on the other hand WAS kind of useless. He pretty much went around chasing the Lin Kuei to have them transformed. Then he became a henchman for Shao Kahn.

Anybody could have sold those weapons lol. Shit, they could have just stolen the weapons and they would have been fine.

Sektor was one of the major villains in the story. He had a big role in both Smoke and Sub-Zero's chapters.
Not to mention he became one of Shao Kahn's generals. Watch Cyber Sub-Zero's cutscenes again, he is shown giving orders to not only Cyrax, but also Noob Saibot and an entire horde of Tarkatans.
 
You know, whether or not everything that has been shown yesterday is indeed true, the amount of butthurt over five returning characters is truly amazing.

I've been seeing consecutive posts on various sites that states how many tend to think Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, and Kano are, get this, "taking spots away from other characters in this game." I'm sorry, but every time I see that, no matter who it comes from, I'd like to slap you across the face with a frying pan. To think that other characters deserves a spot more than others because those others happens to be YOUR favorites is absolutely mindboggling. And I say that because many tend to forget that the initial roster has been made up far, far before any characters got revealed to us.

I mean, people are saying that if Johnny and Sonya are in, what's the point in having Cassie? I don't get their point because A.) Cassie has only ONE move that is taken directly from one of the two and that is the nut punch and B.) Johnny and Sonya will obviously have their own variations that will play much differently from their daughter, as well as having new moves of their own. This is basically the perfect game to give them new movesets because you have so much to work with. Why anyone would immediately suggest that two characters will play so much alike is also mindboggling. You have one character with three different fighting techniques, I doubt one character will play similar towards another.

It's just frustrating to see how people think all of these returning characters are taking away spots when that makes no freaking sense at all. No one is saying that you need to be pleased with every single character that gets revealed, but to sit here and say someone is taking away a spot from another character is ridiculous. No character deserves more of a chance than anyone else. Everyone's got a 50/50 chance, even Sub-Zero and Scorpion because there has been games where they haven't been around.

(Yes, there was one game where Sub-Zero was not present, I believe it was Mortal Kombat 3 on a different console, but unfortunately I cannot remember what the name of that console was. And I'm trying really, really hard to remember where I saw that)

so your mad because people want there favorites in? sounds to me like a dumb thing to get upset about...also sounds like you may end up staying upset for a whiiiile...
you really think just because the roster has been predetermined, that it means characters no longer take up space? what kind of logic is that? i dont care if the roster was made 5 years ago...if a character is in the roster, then hes taking up space. simple as that.

God forbid people make such an assumption, right? I do get what your saying (i think having Cage end up like his ending would be SICK)
but it sounds to me like the whole point of Cassie Cage was to combine there move sets and fighting styles to make a Sonya/Johnny hybrid. And when you have a hybrid of two characters, it makes the them look obsolete. i dont see whats so mindboggling about this....


anyway im not trying to call you out, or be an ass or anything....i just took your comment personally...cuz im one of the people complaining about useless characters taking up space.

Agreed 100%.
The only reason Kano was in MK9 was because it was a reboot of MK1 thru UMK3.
He was completely useless in MK9 story mode, as was Reptile, Baraka and Sheeva (I like Reptile and Baraka, btw).

Agreed.
While I've NEVER been fond of Kano myself, he seems to have made it, so hopefully the Kano fans can get a 2nd chance with him, given that they got screwed over by him being over-nerfed in MK9.

As for Scorpion, the only game in which he was absent was MK3, and that was because Daniel Pesina, who previously did the "ninja" characters, was fired.
It's the very reason why the Sub-Zero that's in MK3 is unmasked, non-ninja Sub-Zero.
Scorpion came back when John Turk (aka unmasked Sub-Zero) put on the costume in UMK3.






As for the roster, I get the feeling that NRS wants to try the whole "3 variations" on the Original 7 MK1 characters, since they've never been able to do that before.
A Liu Kang model was supposedly being worked on, Boon let it slip about Cassie doing fatalities on "family members," and now we even have a Kano leak.
