Roster Speculation

I am sure at least 2 dead earthrealm fighters will be playable. Kitana has been hinted at multiple times by Ed Boon, so whether shes Quan Chis slave or whatever, her chances still seem somewhat high. I know Ed trolls, but not to this degree

This is what I've been defending all this time, but the biggest part of the forum has always said the death will remain death and unplayable.... that's why I was surprised this morning, because now the main opinion is shang can return because he can cheat death like it's used to be on mk....
Sincerely i cannot understand....

On the main roster, though?
I highly doubt any of the dead characters under Quan Chi's control will be on the main roster, especially with 11+ NEW MKX characters being on the main roster.
All of the characters that NRS has announced for MKX (thus far) have either lived through MK9, are likely vital to the MKX story, or just necessary in MK due to their iconic status.

As DLC?
Sure, I can see 1 or 2 characters returning as DLC, but not being involved in the main story.
Just about any MK character can be DLC if requested enough, and if NRS gets harassed enough by the fans to have them in (i.e. - MK9 Rain).

Yeah, a DLC is also a likely option, we will just have to wait and see. I based my assumptions on the fact Ed directly said that death means nothing in MK, in a response to a tweet about her.

DLC (IMO) seems like the best way that 1 or 2 of the Quan Chi controlled dead characters would be playable.
If they are just cameos and don't have a part in the story, DLC is fine, just like Goro.

Kintana and Kung Lao would probably be the most requested characters for DLC, out of all the dead characters under Quan's control, if they don't make the cut.

Why is the media thread constantly being used for roster speculation? :P

To reply to some of the stuff posted there, I'm also glad we get a lot of new faces instead of repeating the same old (although I wish it was not the original 7 dominating the returning faces) and to me it does seem that most characters that entered the game post-MK2 are disliked by many people for the fact that they are not "classic" characters. Which is unfortunate because the game wouldn't have lasted two decades with the same 12 characters repeated...

NRS is not going to waste a character slot for some dead Quan Chi slave when they already have other popular, alive candidates who survived MK9 and can help move the story forward; not to mention there are MK characters from MK4+ that are going to become playable.

Not sure how much an undead Kitana is going to progress the story when Quan Chi will control her.

Random thought: I'm going to be so bored if this roster ends up having all five of these:

Johnny Cage
Sonya Blade
Cassie Cage
Kano
Jax

Two confirmed, with Johnny and Jax looking likely. I would personally rather see Cage and Sonya die in Story Mode (thus rendering them unselectable from the roster, freeing up two spots) and see Cassie's purpose to avenge them. Just seems somewhat limiting (for what we know) to include all of these characters with such a tight backstory to each other, yet still trying to further the game with all of the new characters.

Yes. Thank you.
My thoughts exactly.
I really wouldn't mind if the dead characters stay dead for 1 game, and let the living MK9 / post-MK3 / NEW MKX characters shine in the MKX story.

A couple of the the "dead" characters as DLC would be the best way to go about that whole situation, IMO.
They wouldn't take up a main roster slot, and the people who want them can buy them.

I could easily see 4 of those 5 being there, though.
Johnny Cage and Sonya are all but confirmed for MKX, going off of the various hints that Boon, Beran and the other team members have hinted at in various interviews.

I'm still hoping that Boon was just trollin' with the whole Jax "clue" as Jax is stale and doesn't provide anything to the story.

There was a rumor saying there was 30 characters 15 old 15 new. Also Lui Kang had concept art one person said.

Key word, right there: rumor

Ed Boon said 30-something characters, but he didn't specify if that was main roster only or main roster + DLC.
According to the current select screen roster build, my guess is 24 main roster + 6 DLC.

As for Liu Kang, you conveniently skipped over the part where I said "under Quan Chi's control."
Liu Kang wasn't under Quan Chi's control, and he's 1 of the 4 must-have characters for most MK games (along with Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Raiden).

I never said that Ed Boon said it.

I wouldn't believe any rumour that didn't come from Ed Boon directly... and even then

Just because i still wouldn't be completely sure if he's serious.

So I'm guessing you don't believe the brothers soul dialogue RUMOR?

Ok let me explain.. the "15 new characters" thing has never been said anywhere... it's conjecture that's baseless. Unless you can provide a link where they confirm or "hint" to 15 new characters to justify the rumour?

It was established that there will be more new characters than any other previous MK game and that the roster will be a similar size to MK9.

There is a difference between going by some rumour with no source to verify anything...

We have a reliable source with the info on the brothers soul dialogue due to the fact all the other info from that source has come into fruition... so what's wrong with discussing/dissecting what little "evidence" we have to go by?

If the roster 24 then my guess that we will get 12 old characters and 12 new characters making the roster around 24. The DLC fighters be around 6 making the compete roster around 30.

I'm worried they will only have Kenshi, Shinnok and Quan Chi from post MK3 characters. I want Tanya, a less silly Bo' Rai Cho, Fujin, Kai, Nitara, Ashrah, Kira, Mavado, Li Mei, not those common characters.

Surprise us NRS!
