Raiden

Yeah I want raiden to have that "FEAR" aura about him in story mode. I want the villains to be like "Oh shit it's raiden lets get the hell out of here!"

Also Flying Jinko. he may have beat shao khan using Elder god blessings. But he did beat lui kang... while obviously holding back a bit. I doubt he would intentionally kill lui kang lol. He did that w/o elder god blessings.

Completely agree with the fear factor part. Yea Raiden did manage to beat Shao Kahn with the Elder Gods blessings, but at the same time Shao Kahn was OP with the soulnado providing him with power.

Yea he did kill Liu Kang accidently while at the same time he electrocuted Mileena with a seemingly higher dosage of electricity in the storymode and she came out unscathed. Also in the original timeline Liu Kang beat Shao Kahn meaning

Liu Kang >Shao Kahn with Soulnado power> Raiden

But in the altered timeline

Raiden with Elder God blessing>Shao Kahn with Soulnado powers> Raiden> Liu Kang.

But the reason Raiden stopped Liu Kang from fighting Shao Kahn is that he knew Liu Kang would win....thus making Liu Kang the strongest.

Nothing makes sense.

lol, This is the scenario you got when you have like 4 pros. (Pretend it's Critical Limit - Flying Jinko - BBBLP - Jade)

I beat you Flying Jinko consistently, Flying Jinko beats BBBLP consistently, but me and BBBLP go even. Jade beats me consistently, while BBBLP beats Jade consistently. But you and Jade go even.

Situations like this happen at high level play sometimes lol.

Gonna chalk it up to knowledge of fighting skills.

Raiden probably knows lui kangs moves inside and out. While not knowing shao khan's. shao khan being just strong and powerful in general, can't handle lui Kang's bruce lee type fighting style. But can beat up raiden.

ect ect.

Lol yea, that is a sound quite a reasonable explanation, it could perhaps been a match up thing. :p

RAIDEN!!! My favorite!! <3

It actually started with MK2 for me... MK2 on the Sega Genesis was a birthday present for me when I turned 12. [Yeah, I wanted MK2, my younger bro had MK1 already and I got the sequel.] I took one glance at the screen to choose my Kombatant... one look at Raiden and you could've sworn I ended up crushing on the Thunder God.

The hell am I saying? I *DID* END UP CRUSHING ON THE THUNDER GOD.

Lame, I know.

BUT, he was the Kombatant I chose to whoop Shao Kahn, Torpedo-style... which, after about 30 tries on Shao Khan's stage, I finally beat MK2 for the first time EVER. [MK2 has been my favorite game since, for that very reason.] In any case, it's since been more than just the "Oh he's the cute Thunder God!" sentence I used to say in middle school.

More like, "Raiden's a fine mothertrucker that will quickly and gladly electrocute your @$$!!"

[And for the record, I lurve Dark Raiden get-up. But my heart will always belong to his attire from MK2. *sigh*]

Wait, so, was it ever stated in the games that Onaga was the reason for Raiden's corruption to become Dark Raiden? Or is that just the OP's explanation?

Also, I highly doubt Raiden is the new Mortal Kombat champion for several reasons: he was the current god of Earthrealm and his fight with Kang and Shao Kahn was not a Mortal Kombat tournament sponsored by the gods; it was a random scuffle inside a massive war, as far as the Elder Gods were concerned in MK9. Liu Kang's MK9 arcade ending, however, does seem to suggest it was an official Mortal Kombat competition, as he requests the Elder Gods allow him to challenge Raiden for title of godhood. In that situation, I imagine Raiden had his divine powers tripped and would likely have been just like any ordinary mortal. The champion of MK would still logically be Liu Kang, but it's not that it really matters, because Mortal Kombat seemed to be primarily a limitation imposed upon Outworld for transgressions against other realms and lost its ability to challenge Earthrealm forever once it lost the second tournament in Outworld.

Also, I think the cape just happens to be a new design for Raden irregardless of his prior Elder God status; I think he has a similar look with a cape in MK vs DC which theoretically takes place after MKII or 3.
