Raiden WILL appear

I don't expect you to take my word for it, but I can say that Raiden will probably be in MKX. Playable? I have no idea.

Back in February, I met Richard Epcar, Raiden's VA for MKvsDCU and MK9. He signed my copy of MK9 and told me he recently did voice-over work for the next Mortal Kombat. Fangasmed that day.

With Ed Boon making hints as of late, I'm sure it's a safe bet.

Well yeah. Raiden's been in pretty much every MK game except for 3. Id be surprised if the god of thunder didnt show up.

It's pretty obvious that Raiden will be in somehow in the MK X story, given that MK9 is essentially HIS fault and he is the savior of all the Realms by defeating Shao Kahn in MK9.

He didn't lose.
Raiden defeated Shao Kahn in MK9, and was the remaining one from the forces of light along with Sonya and Johnny.

No, he lost, which finally got the Elder Gods attention. Then the Elder Gods gave him a healing potion and the power to beat Kahn. If he hadn't lost he never would have won.

Raiden let Shao Kahn think that he had won, as in the "he must win" prophesy from his former self, because it became clear that invasion without winning in Mortal Kombat was against the elder gods' rules.
Raiden didn't lose, though.
He outsmarted Shao Kahn and tricked him into believing that Shao Kahn had won, in order to defeat him.
Raiden never "lost."

You're repeating yourself a bit. And you also said exactly what I said. He had to lose, to win.

Nope.
He faked defeat, in order for Shao Kahn to believe that he had won, so that Raiden could gain the advantage and defeat Shao Kahn.

Faking a defeat =/= losing.
BIG difference in the 2.

I guess I missed the part where Raiden said "jk lol"

Yes, you did miss it.
Go play the MK9 story again.

Raiden says to Quan Chi "I now know what I must do" (in reference to purposely giving up to Shao Kahn, so that the elder gods could interfere).
This is also the reason why Raiden didn't let Liu Kang fight Shao Kahn before he came through the portal.
Shao Kahn had be allowed to invade in order for the elder gods to interfere.

I assume the last fight in MKX's story mode will be Raiden vs Evil Liu Kang. That would be pretty cool, right?

Then why were you as a human player required to beat him as Raiden?

Regardless of whether it was for the sake of gameplay or not, Raiden still won in MK9 by defeating Shao Kahn, and HE is the champion of MK9 who saved all the known universes of the MK lore, from Shao Kahn's wrath.

Raiden only faked his defeat. That much was clear. I just don't get why the Elder Gods weren't paying attention in the first place and that it took Shao Kahn believing he won to finally spark their interest.

I just don't think "faking" is the right word. I've watched it 10 times today already. Raiden gives up, Kahn initiates a beat down that Raiden just endures, and then the Elder Gods hit the reset on Raidens health bar, and another fight happens that Raiden wins.

Raiden surrendered. He gave up. He lost the fight they were fighting at that time.

Like I said, he lost... So he could win.

It would be extremely odd to see this game NOT have Raiden in it since the ending of the last one. Whether or not he's playable wouldn't make a difference for me as long as he's in the game.

In fact, I'd rather see him as the end boss, and this would make a better way to introduce Fujin as the Earthrealm protector. Raiden has gone completely insane after the events of 2011, mostly after the fact that he killed Liu Kang, and just after that he's been trying to find ways to make things better, but only realizes he's making more of a mess.

I would be very happy if this all came true. Will it? Dunno, but it's something I really would like to see.

He faked giving up, and Kahn beating him was all part of the plan of Shao Kahn believeing that he had won.
The actual fight takes place when the elder gods strengthen Raiden.

Raiden faked the surrender by pretending to give up, and he got some hits from Shao Kahn.
The elder gods then intervened, and with this new strength Raiden had planned and he destroyed Shao Kahn.
Raiden losing = Kahn killing him off and Raiden later being resurrected, which didn't happen.

Like I said, he faked defeat / surrender... So he could win.

It's painfully obvious and as clear as day, but apparently it's not so clear to Sub-Zero.

Raiden never faked a defeat. He let Shao Kahn win and begin the merge of the realm.

That's this precise event which cause the Elder Gods to intervene because Shao Kahn lose the right to do that when he lose the Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld.
