PSN Hacking/Return/Etc. Discussion ~ Do Not Make Anymore Threads

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

I don't suppose any one else out there has suddenly found that their PS3 will no longer output a video signal? I've got sound through the HDMI, but no video. Looks like I'm going back to the Knowledge Center.

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

Haha! Funny comment man! I would love to hear someone say that to me in real life, not even the college professors talk like that. At anyrate I don't see how EVERYONE thinks they are entitled to something free from sony when only PSN+ users should be, although I do think they should have told us what really happened sooner. Plus rep for you!

When I bought my PS3 about 3 weeks ago, free online play was one of my expectations. I'm pretty sure many playstation owners had the same expectation when they bought their their PS3. When Sony puts a product on the market with established expectations for their consumers, they have to live up to them. While normally I would not agree with compensating PS3 users for the down time, this particular situation (in regards to failed security and the lack of communication) PS3 owners should be compensated, whether they are PS+ owners are not (I became one about a week before everything started happening).

Sony has failed to live up to the expectations they established for their consumers. The argument that normal PSN users should not get compensation because the online is free is bogus. Since a breach of trust is already evident by Sony, it would be dumb for Sony to alienate normal PSN users by only rewarding PS+ users. It would already serve to piss off the normal PSN user off even more than they already are. Sony needs to make amends for it's tarnished image that it has gotten from this debacle.

PSN credit card data was encrypted, 'no evidence' it was taken - Sony

I feel a little better, hope the feeling is justified.

"As day eight of the PlayStation Network outage nears day nine, Sony has posted a new Q&A regarding the data leak that accompanied the service disruption. Two days after it said that personal information was compromised, the PlayStation maker is trying to soothe customers' fears by saying that all credit card information submitted to the PSN was encoded.

Sony says all credit card info on the PSN during the data leak was encrypted.
"All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network," the company said in a statement on the official PlayStation Blog. "The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack."

The company said that the reason it has warned customers that their credit card data may have been stolen was out of an "abundance of caution." The company also pointed out that users' credit card security codes--often called CVC or CSC numbers--were never stored on the PSN or Sony's Qriocity media service, which was also compromised in the attack. These three-digit codes are usually necessary to make an online transaction.

The day after Reuters reported that Sony was working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's cybercrime unit, the game giant also confirmed it is cooperating with "law enforcement." The company did not mention the FBI or any other agency by name, but it did reiterate it is also working with a "recognized technology security firm" on the matter.

Finally, Sony somewhat tempered the prediction it offered on Tuesday, when it said that some PSN services would be back up within a week. "We want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure," the company said."

Re: the wait is over: PSN IS BACK may 3rd

I love xbox for gears only and I love ps3 for the good community the games the good free online service.

for me it seems sony has done every thing they could to help get this problem fixed good for sony it shows they dont tolerate bs hackers.

Sony has confirmed that it hopes to restore some fuctionality to the PSN service by next Tuesday in a new statement on the PlayStation Blog.

"Our employees have been working day and night to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some services up and running within a week from yesterday. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we are confident that the network is secure."

Dated April 27, the update posted by Patrick Seybold (Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media), would put the estimated return date for PSN services as May 3, meaning that the service will have been offline for two weeks.

Although which services will be coming back online next week is unclear, Sony has stated they are working on new security measures for the future, as well as seeking out those responsible for the breach, confirming they "are working closely with a recognised technology security firm in order to find those responsible for this criminal act, no matter where in the world they might be located."

Hackers - lock your doors. Sony's coming after you.

you can expect to play online but most likely the PS STORE will still be under maintenance.

So how is our wait over?? Pretty sure we still gotta wait days lol

Re: the wait is over: PSN IS BACK may 3rd

I'v been a 360 only user since 2001. PSN users don't feel bad. either Halo 2 or 3 DID have a downtime I remember the withdraw like it was yesterday lol (Don't know if it was for 2 full weeks but definitely around 3-4days somethin like that. Anyways we have a PS3 in the house that I never used until i pre-ordered MK. My first PS3 game. I only got to play online like twice stupid work was keepin me away from the game. Honestly, from my horrible grammar and terrible syntax, you can tell I'm not going back and re-reading my comments. That's pointless, stupid, and a wasteful use of my time. Believe what you want, but that's how I honestly speak in real life.

Oscillating between eloquent and orwellian isn't very difficult. No Herculean effort is put forth. Even this comment is being written on the go and I made like two overt references to Orwell and Greek mythology.

You know what's even funnier? English is my...fourth language. I'm fluent in Urdu, Arabic, and French. I've been learning english for...6 years, maybe. And i'm 17. Isn't this great? We can voice chat if you want me to prove it, loll. After AP exams, my days will be filled with masturbating and trolling, i'm sure i can manage to squeeze in a voice conference.

At anyrate I don't see how EVERYONE thinks they are entitled to something free from sony when only PSN+ users should be

:hail:

Plus rep for you!

Did you know i've gone from -59 rep to +5? lawl

Re: PSN MK Online

Geez that seems like a lot of trouble just to play online. Have you considered purchasing an Xbox 360 instead of having to go through all that trouble?

Re: the wait is over: PSN IS BACK may 3rd

I really hope Sony deals with all the hackers who did so much damage to the PSN is a really harsh matter.

Re: PSN MK Online

Seems nifty but are you sure the ps3 servers are even up for mk? They could be though but ya never know since PSN is down they could of used ps3 servers for actually testing stuff more thoroughly but then again I'm over thinking so pay me no mind if this is nonsense LOL~

Re: PSN Downtime Discussion

The thing that really cooks my grits is that I JUST TODAY got an email from Sony explaining the situation. What if I was the parent of a child who maybe didn't tell me all of this? It just seems to me that if a system was HACKED, the company should tell everyone right away so they can immediately take the steps required to protect themselves. I don't want compensation, I just wanna know why Sony didn't tell the truth straight away. :/

Re: the wait is over: PSN IS BACK may 3rd

I am a playstation plus subscriber. Wondering if they are going to add days missed to my subscription. They should. Hopefully my subscription is still intact. Geez.

Re: the wait is over: PSN IS BACK may 3rd

Or you could just go pick up an Xbox, and not have to deal with that nonsense. Just saying that's all. . . .

Not everyone has the money you know....

Any who, glad that PSN will be up by May 3rd, I'll get to finally test my Smoke & Nightwolf online.

It's times like this that remind me how badly forum software needs a button that upon clicking would bash the poster in question with a stick.

Pat-"Stop trolling"

You, ignoring everything said in these threads-"360 rulez lolz"
