According to multiple sources the next PlayStation is well into development and here are the details that surround the PlayStation 4.
First off this is a rumor and everything should be taken with a grain of salt unless this news is confirmed by a reliable source.
The first thing I would like to point out about the PS4 is that Sony must have plans to ditch the number system for the console and simply replace it with Orbis. Apparently they are readying Orbis for a 2013 holiday release, which means *if this is in fact true we will more than likely see Sony unveil the new console at this year's E3. Some people have already questioned the name "Orbis" and have associated it with the Latin world circle. People have also commented on the likelihood that the Orbis and the Vita will go hand in hand by using the term Orbis Vita which means "The circle of life". *I personally think they should stick to PS4, but we'll just have to wait and see as more details unfold.
A few details have emerged concerning PlayStation Orbis' features. It has been noted that like a majority of current PlayStation 3 models, Orbis will not have backwards compatibility. This means that PlayStation 3 titles will not work on Orbis. Not only will PS3 games not work for Orbis, but used games will not work either. New games will only be available on a Blu-ray or via digital download. Once you buy a disc it will be locked to a single PSN account. There are not too many details on how this Pre-Owned sytem works, but it is sure to make more cheap gamers unhappy. There are also definitely a lot of cons to this system already.
It has also been stated that select developers have already received development kits for Orbis.
The current confirmed specs for the console are the following.
AMD x64 CPU
AMD Southern Islands GPU
This mean's that Orbis games will have a resolution of up to 4096x2160 if the specs do not change.
