Playable Sub-Bosses

Should Sub-Bosses be playable?

This has been coming up a lot. Should sub-bosses be playable? Chances are we will see Goro, Kintaro, and Motaro next year.

I'm split on this one. As much as I want to play as Goro, I can also see how not playing as them would bring back challenge and nostalgia.
 
HELL NO! I love the challenge man, you feel so damn good whenever you beat a sub-boss, I want that feeling back. The 3D games took that feeling away from me, I WANT IT BACK NOW!!! :P
 
I say yes so long as they are powered down (except with a vs. cheat :) ), and can't be used online.
 
I'm stuck in the middle on this one. I love being able to have the option to play as a sub-boss. But at the same time such an option takes away other things.

Which is why I propose this... You have to go through some rather difficult challenges to unlock them. Different challenges for different bosses. Like a flawless victory climb and shit like that.

I don't know. Either way, I'll live. I can see both sides and I agree with both.
 
I can do without. After a few rounds playing as them, they always lose their novelty and I go back to playing as the normal characters anyway.

Thats how i feel as well, you feel... Too strong when you use them? I mean, its a fun feature and all FOR ONE FIGHT, but long term use just gets horrifically boring.

I with this guy on this. I think unlocking the sub-bosses should have something to do with the challenge tower.
Picture this, you do the regular challenge tower without buying your way through, then you unlock 4 secret mountains. Similar to MK2 with Shao Kahn, you see a sub-boss standing menacingly on top of each mountain. Defeating a mountain will unlock the boss who stands on top of it. The mountains host excruciatingly difficult challenges, and when you get to the top you must defeat the boss on the maximum difficulty. Then and only then, may you play as the coveted sub-bosses.
 
Ironically I just played through an MK2 hack for the Genesis that has the bosses as selectable characters, and yeah, playing the game as Kintaro got pretty damn boring pretty damn quick. Stomp, uppercut, fireball, dead.
 
Like someone said above me: I don't really have any desire to play sub-bosses. If they were available, I wouldn't be opposed just as long as they are not usable online. Perhaps if the NR team's "hooks" are as good as it seems, maybe online play would be alright, but I would much rather not to play as any of them. Give me Ermac or Baraka over Goro or Kintaro any day.

Same here. Think back when you played MKT for the first time, guys! At first you thought "OMFG, you can pick all four bosses!!!" After playing with each of them you never chose them again because it was unbalanced and boring.
I like Sub-Bosses even more than the main bosses. In all 2d-games they are big and strong protectors and are hard as hell.
NRS should make an easter egg for people who want to try to play as a boss. But for me I don't need playable bosses. Being unplayable makes them special!
 
Why not have both? The playable versions can simply be weaker versions versions of the AI-controlled bosses.

Seems like the best option brother...I'll just go ahead and repeat what others said; It feels great to have the OPTION to pick one of the bosses/sub-bosses but it does actually get boring after quite a short while. Another good suggestion is that they shouldn't be available in Online Modes and you should fulfill a very secret/difficult criteria to unlock em'. Also think that they shouldn't have a Konquest mode and they should be selectable off screen so we have more regular character spots =D
 
As I've said before, I don't want playable bosses unless:

*they're high difficulty unlockables through trophies, via DLC slot
*damage is capped online, or alternatively, fights are restricted to only boss characters
 
I prefer not to have that. It makes them more special when you can't play as them. Shao Kahn is so awesome but playing as him kinda made me feel disappointed.

I think of it from a show-off point of view, obtaining the bosses through a difficult, gameplay-based trophy system. So anyone who doesn't want them, doesn't have to try and obtain them. I agree it does make them more special as NPC, but you know some people will be frustrated if there's no possibility, so I think it's likely they will be playable through some method. I just hope it's something along the lines of what I have in mind, and not easily accessible at all, but a reward for people who truly learn the game.
