People's extreme love and passion towards characters

I think you're being childish and pathetic for trying enforce your personal view on others.

I would never drop mk over 1 character either, but I don't think it's hard to try to relate.

Some people are a fan of a single character, or a select few. If all of their favorites aren't in they feel a disconnect.

Quit crying about people being upset over something they like missing.

Please explain to me how I'm trying to 'enforce' my personal views on others? They can act/think how they want, it doesn't affect me. I just think that it is childish to have that sort of mentality (and I'm entitled to my opinion).

Besides, responding to my comment with nothing but a series of insults makes you look childish & pathetic, not me.

As you can see by the naming conventions on this site, people incorporate their favorite characters and media as apart of their personal identity. Which is why an inclusion or lack thereof can be taken personally.

For me, I initially was excited to see Ermac in UMK3 because i wanted to see a red ninja, but i was sold in the end by his telekinetic slam move, which just looked so cool. I also like secret, obscure things so i latched on. I nevwr really had a favorite before that, but i often played as reptile, sektor, or smoke. In mk1 i played scorpion.

I know that if we had the same cast now, without Ermac, I'd have pretty lukewarm feelings about MKX, especially sense my other favorites, Rain, Noob, Chameleon, didnt make the cut. I am the kind of player who pretty much picks one character to master and sticks with it almost everytime. That character is ermac in mortal kombat. So mortal kombat is "Ermac game" as far as i am concerned, and with out its star it gets horribly undermined.

As a thought exercise without Ermac, Id probably play as Dvorrah, Erron Black, or Kenshi. But without Ermac its not jearly as exciting. I also guess it says a lot that almost all of the characters id pick otherwise are brand new. I dont like this roster as muchas the last game, as much as i appreciate the new blood.

I started reading this thread from page one and this post interested me because it's exactly how I feel.Sir,youre a badass and I know that you're hell in MK because you usemaybe 1 or two characters.that what I did it's why I ranked so high online above players who used 4 or 5 guys.

Anyway YES, we identify with these characters that's why they mean so much to us.

"Hereeeee's JOHNNY!!!!"

I wasn't insinuating anything. I was telling you directly.

Insinuate: suggest or hint (something bad) in an indirect and unpleasant way.

"Just sad that there are some who hide behind that excuse so they can be assholes towards others."

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

You're trying to cause censorship by basically insulting people with a different view,

Grow up.

Also I said nothing about you that you didn't already say about someone else. You don't get to play innocent cuz someone's trying to show you the other side.

Also I can already sense someone will try to say I'm censoring you. No I'm trying to prevent what is essentially bullying tactics. It doesn't help anything and you're wasting everyone's time. If you're generously curious why they can be a fan, try asking politely instead of scaring people from expressing their position.

So much for that second chance. People don't change, apparently.

Again, I haven't done anything wrong; I contribute to discussions & state my opinion freely, you just don't agree with what I have to say. You can stop being so hostile, because I honestly don't care what you think of me & I definitely do not need your approval as a form of reassurance (I know this might be hard to accept, with you being so important and all).

You called people childish and pathetic because of a opinion

You are essentially flaming.

Are you completely apathetic?

No, I'm just extremely candid & opinionated. If you don't like it, ignore me. I have absolutely no interest in arguing with people over what is 'politically correct' and what isn't.

First of all, if this post offends you by any means, my apologies in advance, I just want to understand something that I can't seem to wrap my head around. Also, this isn't a sarcastic post, and I'm not trying to be demeaning either. Also, I'm posting this in the MKX forum because this theme has been highly emphasized throughout the lead up to release.

If you frequent these forums, you may see posts of mine in regards to people's love and passion towards characters. In MKX, of course not everyone's favourite is going to be in, and to me, that should be accepted due to the fact that overall we love this game enough to post about it on a forum.

What I want to understand is how imaginary, fictional characters that don't even exist in reality can ignite so much passion and love towards them, to the point where petitions are made, social media protests are made, and threats of not buying a product due to the exclusion of a character?

Does it have to do with loneliness? Does it have to do with having nothing better to do? Personally, I believe when people commit actions like the ones I said above, it just enforces the "nerd" stereotype, where the people doing this and feeling this way, are lonely, and still live in their Mother's basement so to speak. So if any reasoning can be said that doesn't conform to that stereotype, I'd really love to hear that.

So yeah, if anyone more enlightened than me would like to chime in, please do.

While it may seem silly or trivial to some, I can understand it. People are very passionate about things and they are vocal about it, regardless of whether or not it is fictional. The same holds true for sports, movies, and television shows. How hard is it to understand that? Some people have been playing Mortal Kombat since the game's debut, collecting memorabilia from the franchise and going as far as cosplaying it. I don't think it is nerdy of them to do it. Do I support the action of being vehemently against a character to the point of trolling others and attacking them personally on a regular basis? Not at all. Still, though, to associate that behavior with loneliness is stupid, Taj. It has nothing to do with people living in their mother's basement and everything to do with them just being passionate to the point of obsession.

It's got nothing to do with fulfilling some 'nerd' stereotype. When these people get so agressive and irrational about fictional characters it's a clear sign of mental illness.

Lol I've learned not to respond to Critical-Limit. The guy's a troublemaker and not worth conversing with. Maybe you should just put him on ignore?

I like characters that strike an interest towards me. Some of these characters may not strike an interest towards someone else. Their opinions, blah blah blah, whatever. I like characters that I've enjoyed playing as, have great stories to tell, and are fun in general.

However, if one of them doesn't make it in a game, even if that character happens to be Sub-Zero, it wouldn't bother me. Mortal Kombat has always introduced new characters to the series, and I'm sure one of them could be a favorite if mine don't make it in. Sure, I've been told, "How do you know you'll be okay if Sub-Zero sits out?" Well, I don't have that grasp on these characters that if they don't make it in, I have to make some petition to get them in, or start spamming threads about how such and such have stolen my character's spot. No offense to anyone who does these two things, but I find that kind of a dumb thing to do.

I really don't think petitions do anything since the last few petitions I've seen (those who aren't affiliated with Mortal Kombat) hardly got anywhere. And saying that a character you don't like is stealing a spot for another, I've never understood the logic behind that statement. The reason why is that all of these characters are getting the time and effort be spent on them to make them awesome, it isn't a mistake that the developers are working on them... unless that specific bunch misheard them and went, "Sektor? I thought you said Stryker!" Yeah, no... just no.

It also sucks that I have experienced some of the nastiest fans of certain characters. I may not like some as much as they do, but to get blasted with insults is just ridiculous. I've learned my lesson to just ignore certain topics when such character comes up but to get bombarded with death threats because I may have stated, "Such and such isn't really a character I'm too hyped to see" is just way too ridiculous. I do not see any passion behind that. I just see a bunch of crap that really irritates me that it exists at times on these forums.

I will always enjoy the bunch that are in my signature the most, but I always welcome new characters to that list.
