Official Kratos in MK Thread (don't make anymore, please)

Some people are taking the inclusion of Kratos too much seriously, I hope you are not loosing your sleep over it.
Fan or not fan, I don't understand what the fuss is all about. It's a game, play it & enjoy it. You don't like Kratos, don't pick him. You get to play against him, show your opponent how much you hate Kratos by defeating him and finishing him.

@Adjun: Nice post mate.

It's not even just about "To Play or Not To Play". It's the principal.

Of course I wont be playing as Kratos. That much is hella clear. But I respect the series. So much that seeing people rave on about Kratos in magazines and award shows annoys the piss out of me. Mortal Kombat is something I grew up with. Obviously some of us will take it a little more seriously than other games. I'm not losing any sleep over it, but the annoyance still remains.

I feel, after reading through this thread, that I have somewhat misjudged RicochetMatt. Sifting through all the 'That was great until Egghead showed up' posts, the last few on this thread have been well worded responses and have explained his way of thinking a lot more clearly. I still disagree, I see 'Kratosgate' as an opportunity for the series to regain a more mainstream following, and thus a higher budget for future releases in the series.

But saying that, I also love seeing characters appear out of context. I just had a look on the PSN store and wet myself at seeing the Kain/Raziel DLC for Lara Croft, and I own three copies of SoulCalibur II.

I guess I just overreacted to the percieved overreacting, and my inner troll surfaced. Matt, after you explained your opinions, I can come to respect them a lot more. It beats the shit out of the countless 'Kratos sucks becoz he sucks' posts.

"Indeed, I did download Yoda on SoulCalibur IV, that was not appropriate. In fact, it was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible."

No, you are losing something. That classic MK feel. I don't recall Kratos or any other half-assed outside characters tainting the MK feel in the past. I'd rather they gave us a poor new character than someone that has no right in the series.

You can't accept all fan demands. Sometimes the fans are wrong. Just sayin...

You can't have a franchise based solely on the original fans of 10-20 years ago. Mortal Kombat is trying to be more of a competitive mainstream fighter. I'm all for the classic MK vibe, but if this was purely classic MK, then why take out the jab flurries in favor of combos? Kratos is just a bonus, and MK's success will not rest on him, but story, gameplay, and online *cough gameoftheyear cough*
Otherwise, just let everyone who wants to play Kratos, play Kratos and show them what an MK style can of stomp-ass tastes like...

completely agree with adjun. I find it sad that theres still people losing sleep over the situation even after finding out that he's just a dlc character for playstation. Although upset fans seem to be way more outspoken, just realize that theres a lot of fans that either like the idea or are ok with it. Regardless he's there and you either have the choice of downloading him or leaving him out all together, theres worse disappointments in life (dc universe for example). Its just time for acceptance

Where does it officially announce that he is only DLC and not on the ps3 disc?

Here is an unbiased approach to exclusive, crossover characters in MK, that can hopefully end this drawn out argument.

Pros:
- Appeals to many MK fans who are also fans of the exclusive characters' games
- Provides more exposure for MK outside of its own fanbase
- Is potentially profitable thus beneficial towards MK's continued success

Cons:
- Contradicts the developers' publicized intentions, was not expected by the fans
- Intrudes on an otherwise pure, non-crossover game
- Aforementioned points cause brand mistrust among a part of the fanbase

There is nothing more to be said IMO, all you're doing now is repeating yourselves and causing aggravation. Everyone's voices have undoubtedly been heard by the developers, and I'm sure they will keep these opinions in mind for future games. Stop trying to convince each other why it's right or wrong, because for every point brought up there is one to counter it.

Bottom line:
It is happening whether you like it or not. If it is so important for you to voice your opinions, realize that they have already been voiced. Play the game and adjust accordingly, or don't play it at all.

theres no problem with an 'out of MK world' character its good to include a new modern character and understandable why they would want to, but do you see the inclusion of a character with giant swords to be equal among the original hand to hand kombatants? thats the issue people are missing

I don't want to reply to this thread anymore but I want to respond to this issue that you keep bringing up over and over again. There's only one answer to it:
You have not seen his gameplay. You have no idea how they have integrated him into MK. At most, your judgments are based on a picture. Save your words until we actually watch Kratos in action.

:top:True.:congrats: I actually think that we all we have surprises and disapointments once the ggame comes out. We are gonna see how wrong we were sometimes. :-|

I don't expect it to stay 100% true to the original games. But adding Kratos to the roster is not the best way to attract a new audience. It's a cheap way. There are many things they could have done, some in which they have. These exclusives are not one of them.

I do agree that Kratos is a cheap marketing ploy, but it is effective and mostly everything that would provide an awesome MK presentation has already been implemented. .
Kratos was just an afterthought, and he probably would've been in the game post-release as DLC.
Kratos is just an example of the possibilities presentable with add-on content.

Kratos is a bonus, not integral to the game.

Nothing has been removed. For all we know, David Jaffe did all the work for developing the character and just sent the assets to Boon's team to implement. Probably got banged out in a day or two (that's an exaggeration, but you get what I mean).

yer but just even the look, its out of place and cowardly to go againt fighters like cage, sonya, with 2 big swords, i think my assumption is bang on that he holds 2 giant swords during gameplay, just look at the pic! hes not gunna whip those things outa thin air like some of the other smaller weapons in MK, and theyre attached to his wrists by chains so is he just gonna drag them along the floor and pick them up for special moves? i doubt it, just saying the look above all is way outa place, wether hes balanced or not

Holding two swords is not "MK"?

Having Kratos in the new MK is retarded. I hope Team MK is making a lot of money off this deal, because they have sold out the game and the franchise big time; collaborating with DC was bad enough, but this is just an incredibly cheap way to sell games.

I don't get why so many pretend kratos will have "2 BIG swords" during gameplay, did anyone see a gameplay I missed. For all I know he can use them as much as scorpion uses his spear.
