Musicians - What do you play, why, what, and when?

Yep, topics pretty damn explanitory if you ask me.

Let's see.

I play guitar.

Mainly because I love music, I was inspired by Slash and Eddie Van Halen to pick up a damn guitar.

I currently have a Jackson - DKMGT Dinky. (Yes yes, she's a baby alright).
Click Here to view this fine piece of ass..

I started a summer or two ago, I picked it up pretty fast. First song I ever learned how to play was GNR - Sweet child o' Mine, followed by Led Zepplins - The Ocean

I enjoy it, it's fun. Any other rockers out there?

I play guitar too. Unfortunately I don't have a cool story about how seeing some guitar god shred on his axe inspired me to pick one up. At the time, I started playing because my friends and I wanted to start a band and be rock stars.

I currently play because I love to crank out the crunchy metal riffage, but that's also why my playing is very limited. I don't enjoy other genres of music, so I don't play other genres of music. If it isn't rhythm-based metal, I probably can't play it.

I have absolutely NO inherent musical ability, so playing never came easy to me and still doesn't, especially being self-taught. My playing is sloppy at best, and as it is I only pick up a guitar 2 or 3 times a week, so it isn't getting much better.

Anyway, I have an Epiphone Les Paul cheapy (my first guitar), a B.C. Rich Beast (my primary axe), and an Ibanez acoustic. I keep the Paul tuned to standard E or Eb, the Beast stays at B standard, and the acoustic is at Eb for now. The amp I use is a Line 6 AX2 modeling amp.

The first song I ever learned how to play was Brain Stew by Green Day. The last one I learned how to play was Leechmaster by Fear Factory.

I've been playing for about 5 or 6 years.

Very weird for me, I'm almost horrible at playing rythem based songs. I can do em', but I just despise it. Takes no talent (IMO) to keep your fingers on

The whole time and strum away. I'm a solo/lead guitarist man myself, mainly why I like to play Slash's music, even though it's not that big of a challange for me.

Own't.

I almost considered getting a ELP, but I stuck with my Jackson. And before the LP came to mind, I almost bought my friends B.C. Rich Beaste - Bronze Series, with Dimartio Super distortion pickups , and "revolution" pickups my dimartio (SP?). Didn't feel the love in the guitar, more death metal. But the neck couldn't compare to my Jacksons.

Nice man, nice.

I play: Trombone.
Where: School band.
Why: Its the only subject I don't suck at.
When: Every other school day
How long: For about 5 years.
I'ma band geek :?

well,my inspiration to start playing the Guitar actually came from my Wayne.
he's been playing for over 26 years now and My god does he Shred.
he's played in a bunch of bands but never hit it big exactly.
but his Demo with his old band R&R Project is pretty damn good, even does some Zakk Wylde-esque leads in it.
he's even played in front of a few thousand people with that band.
unfortunatly all good things come to an end and they're no longer together.
but My Bro is still one of my main inspirations for picking up the guitar in the first place.

I have an Ibanez RG320DX custom,
an old ass Fender M-80 head,
an Unknown brand Cabinet that's pretty freakin' loud,
a Digitech RP200 (for various effects) wich I use along with my Super Overdrive pedal to give it that extra push.

I don't tune to anything but 440 though because it's a bitch to tune with the Floyd Rose II tremolo system on my guitar.
if I had another guitar odds are I'd tune that one to dropped D so I can play a few of the heavier thrash and Death bands I enjoy.

currently looking into getting a Rocktron Chameleon 2000 pre-amp but I'll have to get some dough for that.

Drummer, i would always drum on lap as a kid and now me and my friend got a band together so i should probably get lessons so i can actually play goodand not ameatur

I'm a guitarist, as well (seems to be a popular instrument); but anyway, I decided to pick it up and learn just becuase it inspired me (and because everyone around me was trying to learn it).
I've been playing for a year and a half now and I could say that I'm good at it; not great, but good.
The first song I learned to play was Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd; I've also been able to play some Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Eric Clapton, and I'm trying to get the feel for a few Metallica songs.

I play the bass guitar. I used to play in a band, but we had to call I disbanded it because the drummer went to boarding school in Delaware and my guitarist and vocalist went to a different school.. :? Now I just play on my own times practicing random riffs and stuff. My basses include: A Schecter Diamond, and a Yamahaa P-bass (my first). I have been playing for about 4 or 5 years now.

I don't mean that kind of rhythm, that stuff bores me. I'm talking metal rhythm here. Lots of single notes and power chords, lots of palm-muting and tremolo picking, lots of thrash riffing-- but it's all pretty much based around the bottom four strings. I'll play leads too, but no uber-technical solos or anything like that.

Be glad you didn't get a Beast. That thing is a problem guitar through and through. It has a floating tremolo system, which is enough of a pain in the ass, but it won't stay in tune even with the locking nut. I finally took off the locking pieces altogether, since I have to retune the damn thing after every song or two I play. Beyond that, it breaks strings like a mother-fucker and the headstock moves away from you when you're not gripping the fretboard. It looks killer and the pickups are hot, but that's about it. Next time I'm getting a Jackson with a fixed bridge.

I completely feel you on that one. Nothing but fixed bridges for me from now on.

I used to dabble a little, but I had an old Harmony which sucked so I didn't get very far (the pickups quit working so I trashed it). I'm mainly a singer anyway.

I just recently bought my oldest son an Ibanez Bass and the youngest a nice keyboard.. so hopefully I'll be picking both of those up and using them. I prefer guitar though, but I don't see myself buying a new one for me any time soon. I like WoW too much.

I play guitar, bass, drums, saxaphone, and a bunch of others. Mainly guitar and drums. I have been playing guitar for a year, drums a year(lessons), and bass I started last March. I taught myself guitar so I am not that good at all, I can play some solos but not many.

Most of the songs I play are single notes or powerchords. Some things I ejoy playing and the one song I'm best at: Coheed and Cambria(33), Avenged Sevenfold(Reminissions), Green Day(Whatsername), H.I.M.(Razorblade Kiss), and Blink-182(I'm Lost Without You). I don't know what kind of guitar I have, and i use an Epoch practice amp. I mainly use medium picks, but sometimes I will use hard.

Edit: I got started in drums first because a couple of friends and I were starting a band, which didn't last that long. Then I started guitar just last september 2004 when I got one for my birthday that was my great unlces, it's old, but still good. I wanted to play since I was little, I first saw Green Day on TV and Queen and I wanted to play. I just started bass because my friend got me into it and it's fun as well. Also this way i could play any part for a band.

For bands (been in try-outs) I do vocals, guitar and drums because I know them more than bass. I have been asked to join a few bands, but I turned them down because I doubt I am as good as the others. Practice is all I do really but my fingers arn't as coordinated as these fast soloists.

don't think that you have to be trained to play guitar man.there's plenty of dudes out there that are great and are self taught.
I'm mostly self taught and I think I'm pretty decent now.starting to gain a bit of confidence.
I think in about 2 years I'll be ready to start playing in a band.
been playing for a few years already and I've been asked a few times but I'm just not ready as far as I see to be in a band just yet.

Yeah I know you don't have to be trained to play it well, but for me teaching myself...I am not as good as others. I hadly ever use chords..powerchords is really the only thing besides single notes and solos. I use Powertab Editer as my program to learn songs as well.

I can austic guitar a little bit, only because I took Guitar Class in high school. I ocassionally pick mine up, once, maybe twice a week, whatever. I guess it depends how I'm feeling. :?

Of Course Drums

Drums-Pearl Export series
Cymbals- Sabian: B8 series: 2 crashes 1 ride and hi-hat
Stands- Pacific
Reason- so I can be creative and good for releasing agression
When- for 3 years now

umm...

Guitar (not very well tho), Piano, Keyboards, and my voice ( >.< yes I consider that an instrument >=P)

Why? I love music, and everything about it it's a way to express myself

Inspiration? .....mmm... not really O_o I like originality

I also play guitar because I think it's awesome I got inspired by Metallica they had some cool solos. It also keeps me busy that's why I like.I usually play it all the time and day

i mainly play bass but i dabble a bit in;
guitar, banjo, drums, keyboard, mandolin, ocarina and auto harp.
