Mortal Kombat's Biggest Mistakes

2.) Repeatedly killing Johnny Cage

Sorry bbut isn't this off-topic? this is a thread about MK's GREATEST mistakes, not the most awesome things they've ever done.

Man I watched JK get his damn neck snapped like 50 times in a row when I got Ahnnihlation on DVD>

1. Losing the Roman Numerals (MKIII >>> MK3)
2. Releasing MK3, when it should have been UMK3/Trilogy
3. Killing Sub Zero V and replacing him with Sub Zero VI
4. Moloch
5. Kabal, Sheeva, & Stryker
6. Robot Smoke
7. Unmasked Sub Zero (VI) in MK3
8. Sub Zero's (VI) main costume in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance
9. Sub Zero's (VI) alternate costume in Mortal Kombat Deception
10. Getting rid of Palette Swaps
11. Rain's costume in Mortal Kombat Armageddon
12. Reptile's overly reptilian appearance in MK4 and after
13. Getting rid of Shang Tsung's morphing abilities
14. Creating a cool monster version of Shinnok in Mortal Kombat Mythologies and then completely ignoring it in MK4 and making him boring and weak.
15. Not releasing Mortal Kombat HD for Xbox 360, or at all for that matter!

Here's my honest reply, but don't attack me for it,and this is what I am gonna say, nothing ruined MK just some of the whiny fans getting bent out of shape, about the game going 3D and changing a few things.

Don't attack you, just sit back while you call us "whinny fans"?

If you think 3D was a good addition to MK then thats your delusion, but don't call me whiny when I know what sucks ass, like a 3d fighting field.
I still love you though.

That doesn't mean everybody, just some fans..

1. Killing off Shao Kahn
2. Becoming 3D
3. Kreate A Fatality
4. MK vs DC
5. 100 pointless characters

I love Tekken and love Soul Calibur. Those are incredibly deep games. But MKs being 3D are absolutely horrible. They should of stuck to what they were good at.

And killing off Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, AND Raiden... wtf were they thinking.... seriously.....

yeah personally the 3d playing field just made it feel less professional, i wanna play MK! Not this soul caliber tekken shitty kiddy bullshit!

Oh man, you hit all the vital spots. +1 Rep.

Hmm, let's see:

1) Going "3D"
2) Introducing so many ridiculous "-alities" that Fatalities ultimately become half-assed jokes and afterthoughts
3) Armageddon, or as I call it, MK Trilogy II
4) Introducing too many new realms and ultra-boring characters in Deception
5) Reasons #3 and #4 ultimately resulting in the overall story becoming a butchered, unintelligible lump of crap
6) Introducing the ridiculous "My hand! My other hand! My first hand! My other hand again! Aaaah! Explode!" death animation for every "monster" type boss for the past 3 games (a nitpick, I know)
7) Zombie Liu Kang....if you're gonna do something dramatic like kill Liu Kang, keep him dead.

The worst mistakes of Mortal Kombat for me were:

1) The lack of good new characters after UMK3
-Characters such as Jarek, Kai, Tanya, Mavado, Hsu Hao, Blaze, Mokap, Kobra, Dairou, Darrius, Shujinko, Onaga, Kira, Havik, Taven, and Daegon were just uninteresting imo.

2) 3D
-I don't know if it should be labeled as a mistake, because I think it's going to play out better for it in the longrun. I don't think our hunger for a return to 2D and this game seeming so awesome would be the same if it weren't for the 3D games...but the 3D games were still the weakest out of all of them. In terms of gameplay especially, they just don't hold a candle to the fun of the originals.

3) Storyline starting with Deception.
-I thought the Deadly Alliance story was well done. It definitely was an interesting and basass pairing of Shang and Quan. Add on the death of Shao Kahn and Liu Kang, and it was quite an interesting new direction for the series. Then Deception came, and basically undid that all, and started down the path of painting them in the corner when heading into Armageddon. Bringing back Liu as a Zombie. Shao Kahn was not really killed. The good guys dieing only to return in Armageddon. Onaga looking stupid, and being "the ultimate threat". Then of course they had to make the next boss even bigger, and make the stakes even higher...thus Armageddon. Which completely painted themselves into a corner story wise, and threatened to kill off our favorite characters etc.

Those are personally the 3 biggest mistakes in my opinion.

1. Liu Kang's fatalities (except Dragon one)
2. MK Trilogy
3. Masked Sub-Zero
4. Kreate-A-Fatality
5. MK vs. DCU
6. Shinnok in MK4
7. Babalities
8. Brutalities
9. Animalities
10. Sub-Zero Mythologies
11. Special Forces
12. Mokap
13. Blaze in MKDA
14. Palette swaps

I would exclude Taven from your list. I believe he had alot of potential but was not exploited correctly.

1) no originality or anything special in all characters after mk3. no character in mk4 and onwards has real personality or anything too special to offer except for Reiko & Frost imo
2) Stryker, Meat, Mokap, Bo' Rai Cho, Drahmin, Hsu Hao, Chameleon, Khameleon, Motaro in MKA, Reptile without human form. those are just disgusting.
3) Noob Saibot's name.
4) palette swaps and lack of originality in kickass characters with tons of potential
5) not having a solid story from the start for the first-ever characters and then finding a way to glue the new characters in. too many story changes or blanks that make it look cheesy.
6) babalities/friendships/animalities
7) cyborg Smoke. and by that, I mean that I'd want the character as he is entirely but NOT as human Smoke turning into him and having to wonder each time if Smoke will be human or a cyborg in the game. I'd want smoke without the smoke coming out of his body but all the other moves to stick (different name too, obviously). on that topic, human Smoke with his own moveset ffs
8) many many MANY more special moves, like subzero's iceball, scorpion's spear, stuff like that. imagine a mortal kombat game with like 1656165 simple or special moves per character ;)
9) ability via the options for one button fatalities, some are just too hard to pull off and it's irritating
10) 3D

1)Zombie Liu Kang
2)Kreate A Fatality
3)Kreate A Fighter
4)Kratos (well is not that bad but there is people who buy the game just for Kratos , someone Should do compilation of every fighter doing a fatality in Kratos )
5)Lack of Friendships Brutalities and Babalities
6)Evil Raiden

1. 75% of the 3D-era characters. Some of them (such as Quan Chi, Fujin and Kenshi) are awesome as hell or have lots of potential (Frost), but other are such a shame for MK. I'm talikng to you, Darrius!
2. Sub Zero's alt costume in MKD. And this mistake could have been bigger, since this costume was supposed to be his primary.
3. Scorpion's absence in MK3. At least this one gave us UMK3.
4. Killing Liu Kang. It was a good plot twist, but it was hard to think where to go with the story from there.
5. Orderrealm and Chaosrealm (even thought as I think Havik is awesome)
6. Undoing Shao Kahn's killing. We all knew he wouldn't stay dead for long, but his ressurrection should have been better explained.
7. Killing all the main good guys in MKDA-MKD
8. MK: Special Forces. This one in particular almost killed off the franchise.
9. Kabal's Fatalities in MK3
10. Dark Raiden

Kiling Liu Kang
Going 3D
MK4 and MK:DA does not have brutalities or friendships or Animalities (Taking off babylities was a good move IMO)
Not Having JC on mk3 or umk3
A lot of crappy characters arrive went the series got into 3d mkda mkd mka
