Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Right, don't organize or make a game. We are just creating assets anyone who creates a game from them would then have to answer to WB.

Why don't we just make the damn game, and threaten WB with releasing it if they don't promptly finish patching Arkham Origins or issue complete and unconditional refunds to those that were ripped off by their decision not to patch AO any further even with game breaking glitches still present?

We have complete MK2 remake in Mugen and they didn't care about it, even if it uses ORIGINAL graphics. Here you are using your OWN graphics and they suddenly care. You know why? Because they are scared what will happen when people will notice, that group of amateurs is better than big industry. That's why they're stopping you.
By the way - how did they know about this project? Someone told them?

^Yup. Plus who says you cant do this on your own and like everything else now a day gets "leaked".....or fighters, stages, etc released individually and up to the user to down load everything individually to "create their own game". Its Mugen for a reason, right?

arq_hawkin, keep us posted bro....

someone go to Bleeds crib and Suge Knight those "masters" if he's really walking away and isn't trying to give them up them assets

So pretty much; you guys can't make a game, but you can continue making the sprites?
That sounds fair I think. A lot of the time these projects get completely shut down. Understandably of course.
__

Also, why the hell does everyone keep attacking Bleed and making him out to be some kind of enemy? Yall are making no sense.
They could get in legal trouble if they make a game. WB is a big corporation, it really isn't in their best interest to make the game.

You guys do realize that they have Bleed's contact information and are familiar with his work, right? So if his sprites gets "leaked". whether he did it or not, they can go after him. Doesn't mean that they will, but he understandingly wants to avoid any hassle. Even if he is in the right, big companies can ruin someone's life with court fees alone. Just pick up the project and continue on your own, or just move on with your lives. Its absolutely not that big of a deal.

Mortal gojira is alive!!!!

The person I spoke with was not totally clear on the matter. Saying we can make the art but the problem comes when you have something playable. From the information I was given, It appears we can make all the sprites we want and post them online. As long as we don't make them in to a working game, it's not going to be a problem.

They didn't sound like a lawyer shooting a ton of details at me with clarity, more like the lawyers assistant. Giving me a general overview of their concerns. So they say we can post our fan art without trouble, but a complete set of sprites, I'm not sure. The key is that it can't be something playable, so I guess it would be okay to post the sprites. If somebody were to make them in to a game, I don't know if that would be their problem or mine with guilt by association.

It's not super clear because I'm not totally confident in the interpreters understanding of the subject.

I got a warning by a woman from WB on the phone, asking me to not release a playable game, and to take down the website. I did not receive a physical C&D letter from WB.

I wouldn't go bothering Ed Boon about this, he doesn't own the IP, WB does and even if he's thinks is okay he doesn't have the final word.

A cristal clear explanation bleed thank you...
i still didnt read what do you think to do from now on with all the work you already put on this project... it seems arq will be going on no matter what; but we dont know about your actual decision.

Enviado con uno de aquellos.

I don't plan to make a full game, but I'll go on till I lose interest and share what I can online.

I haven't gotten a definitive answer about putting out a character for mugen. Maybe I can do that, and If they get on my case about it, I'll remove the link.

There's plenty of MK MUGEN creations out there, but I don't think there is anything that comes close to the quality that this would have been. Nor as close to the original as was being made.

It seems like they don't care that people create art/sprites etc, so long as it doesn't affect their bottom line (which in reality it might actually increase it).

And I think that is the problem, it's basically upstaging WB/NRS using their IP from which they would receive no remuneration. Even if Ed Boon says it's fine, WB legal would have to OK it.

If they were smart they'd be offering everyone working on this a nice slab of cash for the assets produced (and to complete it), then create a game engine (or port the original somehow) and release a decent quality HD version of MK with the option for more in the future.

To everyone involved here, I say keep going if you still have the drive and desire to do so, just don't expect there to be a publicly available playable version any time soon, if ever.

Well it is like this. Bleed is protected to create any artwork that he likes. They can threaten him but there is really nothing legally they can do. He isn't creating a game but rather sprites. Also WB isn t going to waste money suing in a case they won't win just to try and teach a lesson. Also he would receive an official C & D before any court action. He would simply comply with their wishes and nothing would come of it. Lastly Bleed has been posting his art on the forums for 2 years. Right now, those assets can be grabbed and turned into a game. Bleed isn't at all responsible. All they can do is try and scare people into stopping.

I was given a number to call, when I did, a receptionist answered , "WB, how may I help you". The person you are looking for is in a meeting, so I left my number and they called me back.

I'm not going to post the name and number for obvious reasons.

So whoever codes the game and assembles everything into one neat package will be ultimately responsible for "putting the game together" and not the artist that contributed to the models/animation.

I'd do it myself if I had the know how.

If done anonymously no one loses and no one get's letters from WB

I just don't want to project to go Final Fantasy Verses 13 status after all this time people have spent on it.

websites and contact information of those involved (this includes signatures on forums under those participating) should have never been displayed out in the open btw.

There were a number of times, where someone on here (I forget who) was trying to contact WB and Ed Boon about this project. Only I forget now why exactly. But they were being told to not draw attention to it. It was during one of the recent discussions about making money from the game/donations.

Also, as far as the other MUGEN games that haven't been shut down. I don't even think WB is even aware of them. WB is not a video game developer, they are a large corporation that was originally in movies and television. The video game industry has a lot of money to be made in it, so they got involved. It's obvious when seeing interviews with WB people that they don't really know anything about MK or really care unless there is money to be made somehow.

If someone told them about MUGEN, what it is, and how many people have ripped off MK sprites, they would probably try to shut them down too. They just don't know anything about games, mugen or anything, nor do they care.

Also, the entire project should have been worked on in secret in that case. No public forum posts, just a group of people communicating over an IM. Releasing the final version to the internet.

Would you guys be interested in releasing the HD stages and new BG music as a MUGEN "StagePak"?

What about the UI as a "ScreenPak"?

Or maybe Scorpion/Sub-Zero/Reptile as a "CharPak"?

There is enough MK MUGEN content already made that could be
enjoyable to MK MUGEN fans.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Too many mistakes were made in the making of this game.

- Using TRMK's open forum, with no way to moderate it.
- Making an official website that had really no point or content at all.
- Posting progress daily and never attempting to release any MUGEN content.
- Separating your team from the MK MUGEN community and posting in the limelight
of the MK fans, and WB.
- Posting as real names with real contact info.
- Putting so much stress on making a final version game.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We could have all been playing as the ninjas with the HD Backgrounds for
over a year now.

with all that being said.... Thank you guys for all your hard work.
MK MUGEN will continue and live on as it always has.
