Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

Here, see if this helps.

I do understand you gave animation to something that doesn't have it originally, but this is what I'd expect your peak frame (about frame 11 of your animation) to look like.

The key differences are the angle at which the torso is posed, the front leg is angled a bit lower, and the corresponding foot is posed so that it points towards the camera and not so much downwards.
The change in the waist angle makes it so that the weight of the body falls onto the leg on impact.
If the waist is too bent, it looks like his body would snap forward when the leg hits a solid object.
I also moved the right leg so that the knee isn't so forcedly bent backwards.

The reason the originals leg looks so high into his body is because they shot those stills sitting down....on blocks

Arq's original version was more realistic imo

No they didn't.
He was sitting on the floor so he could have moved that knee as far back as he wanted.
It's just not natural that the knee goes so far to the back.
The hip muscles start pulling back long before that.

In any case, this project is meant to mimic what MK1 -was-, not what it should or could have been.

As I was saying...

This image was actually from a promo shoot. You will also notice, the pose is different than the sprite in the game.

It's too bad though, the video from the Liu Kang shoot, as well as the other characters, never surfaced on youtube.

That's from a promo shoot. You can tell it's not from the game - pose, angle and lighting are all different from the sprite. Out of the first three games only MK3 was done on a blue screen. They used stairs prop for jump attacks in MK1 & MK2, that's a fact:

There's no reason to believe they didn't do so with Kang's jump kick / flying kick too. I don't have proof for this, only strong indication so believe what you will. Here's my guess:

Hello guys, sorry for the delay, this update is Sonya.
I applied what was previously suggested.

"SSS" thank @Calactyte

New Hands, ah ... @Uker I made the correction on the ring finger. Thanks for warning me.

I made adjustments in lighting.

Application of the biceps muscle and bones "Shape Key" In the elbows, but it's accurate.
Making an animation to see how it will react arms and hair.

That's what I have for today, we'll see you soon.

I started on Scorpion's bio today, getting the scene ready. Fixing shaders etc.

I have a very deep non homosexual bro love for all of you involved in this project. We're not worthy.

So far we've seen early incarnations of literally everyone except Shang Tsung and Kano though.

Cris Berserk, it's good to see a new update from you.
Sonya is looking much better every time.

However, I still have to say the hands still aren't looking any good.

While that the hand models you showed me over PM were really good, I feel you must be rigging them wrong or something.
Check that you positioned the knuckle joints relative to the creases in the fingers when seen from the top side (ie the knuckles) and not the creases in the palm (which is not where the fingers bend).

Here's a picture showing what I'm seeing wrong.

While I was at it I toned down the biceps a little bit.

Keep up the good work!

I have to admit!! Compared to first model of Sonya, this one is in another level, congrats Chris.. But at the same time I have to say that there's something weird on her face, I don't know but she looks like a doll, it's like the eyes, nose and mouth are too close to each other compared to the size of the head.. Maybe Chris can post a close up of just her face from various angles to see what she looks like

Nice job so far

I wasn't bothered by the face, but you may be onto something, arq.
See if this makes it better.
If it does, it's the angle of the face relative to the back of the head.
Like the jaw is deviating too far from the back of the neck.
