Mortal Kombat: 3D vs 2D

This game just needs to be 2.5 D alot of old school titles r following this model:

SF4
Super Mario Bros Wii
Sonic 4 (upcoming)
 
Someone was saying wanted 2d with 3d kombatants and 3d arenas, don't know about that but hope it looks good, which I expect
 
2d of course. No matter what new mk comes out, I always find myself playing mk1-umk3.

I remember being all mad when mk4 came out cause it didn't feel like mk anymore. Not saying I don't like 3d. I have xbox360 and play new games, but the 2d era was the golden era for me.

We need to get back to basics but improve on them. If u ever saw the videos for the fan made mk2 bloodstorm then u know what I'm talkin about.
 
I like 3D. I never played the old MK so i wouldn't know if it was better or not. I'm more of a modern person anyway, So I'd probably crap myself if the new 2010 MK9 had 2D graphics when games are starting to look so real.
 
I don't know about you but I don't think it gets any more real than real live people instead of 3d models.

Plus 2d along with 3d are art forms. You gonna stop listening to old music cause its old? Or continue to listen to it cause its good?

P.s. look at megaman and sonic going back to their 2d roots and being very well received.
 
Just because a game has real live people modeling inter-realm fighters that shoot fire and acid doesn't make Mortal Kombat any more realistic. At the end of the day, you still have a game full of very unrealistic fighters and scenarios, regardless of whether its 2D or 3D.
 
I could care less if its real or not, just as long as its fun. To me the old mks were much more fun.

Actually, yes. I'd much rather listen to the remastered copy of something from the 60s than the 50 year old LP.

GAMES are an art form, and since they can make better-looking games with 3D models, that's what I'd rather have a designer use. **** the 3D plane, but the 3D models I'm all for.

I agree with the remastered but I talking about genres. Just cause its new and modern doesn't make it good. There are a lot of crappy band out that use auto tune and loops in garageband just cause its popular and easier.

Say you like metallica and love master of puppets. Just cause they go a new direction and come out with load or st. anger do not make them better albums cause they're new and modern.

Another way I can go is remakes. Just cause you use the lastest technology, cgi, and all that crap doesn't make it a great movie. look at the new freddy, jason, and michael movies. Absolute trash.

Speaking of movies. Remember garfield? Remember when garfield went 3d? Even in gthe movie zombieland bill murray says he regrets doing garfield lol.

Now a game that I liked so much more when it became 3d was grand theft auto. I think my buddies and I played gta4 for months. There's always exceptions. The only thing was mortal komat was in its prime when it was 2d and in the arcade. It was a household name and everybody was talking about it. Look at it now. Nobody is talking about it. Nobody cares. Its not what it used to be.

2d and 3d fans will always be split.

Dude, I'm just saying that there's probably no way its gonna be 2D and that i'd prefer if it was 3D, nothing more. And this has pretty much nothing to do with Garfield, Zombieland, or old music, which i do enjoy.

I do agree with you on thinkin it won't be 2d. Especially after seeing the new short film that was released. But the short film was pretty sweet.
 
You guys can argue fro ages about the 2d/3d thing...The fact that the new MK games are not at tournaments like EVO, ECT, SB etc. speaks more than enough what's good and what's not. Even without the re-release of UMK3 and MK2 the games will still be played in offline environment more than the 3d garbage. I spent 2 weeks of playing MKA on PS2 and i ended up playing the racing game simply because the actual MKA didn't offer enough mental challenge. Speak whatever you want about SF, but that wont change the fact that this is Fighting game number 1 right now. The Capcom team realizes that the 3d environment+ the 2d fighting system= successful game....Why are the MK team still doing the wrong thing?

My personal favourite MK game will be the Ultimate MK3 style mixed with the advantages of today's technologies and animation possibilities.

Old content and old technology are very different things, and you're flip-flopping between 2D/3D appearance and 2D/3D gameplay.

You're not gonna get something good from anything if the content doesn't jive, that's why newer movies and remakes suck.

You're right, MK is not what it used to be, but that's because it's a completely 3D fighting game. 3D fighters have never had the same impact that 2D fighters have. With the recent success of SF4, I can see the MK team actually going with the 2D fighting/3D graphics (2.5D) formula. Street Fight IV is a perfect example of how a new MK game could bridge the gap between 2D and 3D. I'm CERTAIN MK would make a good comeback if they did that. Throw in some good, gritty fatalities, and it would do even better.

I agree, completely. There's no reason flat, 2D characters should be used when 3D characters can be used and actually look better.
 
Based on the trailer, the MK team did a good job putting 2D gameplay into 3D looks and graphics. I hope this will become the most perfect MK yet.

Sorry but this is stupid. People have different tastes. For example, you apparently think the new Friday the 13th and Nightmare movies sucked, but I thought they were quite good, especially the Nightmare movie, and this is coming from a HUGE Nightmare fan. You can't sit here and say 'well, people like/dislike something because it's old/new'. Face it, the fatalities, for one, have been utter shit. MK was known for some sweet fatalities and now they have garbage fatalities.

Your argument is ridiculous. This really has nothing to do with old vs new, it has to do with how good the game is. I personally LOVE 2D MK but if a 3D version is fun, awesome, I will like it and play it. Make a game fun and interesting to play and people will care. If people are douchebags and wont play a game just because it's 3D and they don't like 3D, they deserve to be kicked in the shin.

For the record, Garfield didn't suck because it was 3D, it sucked because it was boring and stupid. Had they made a good movie instead of the trash they ended up doing, it had the possibility of not sucking ass.
