Mortal Kombat 11 General Discussion Media Thread

For now, yeah, that's how it's set up.
I know that because I took my PS4 with me to the hotel for a work event, and when I got to the room and set it up I hadn't logged onto the WiFi yet, and Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung and Nightwolf were not in full color on the select screen, as if I hadn't purchased them..

That only happens if your PS4 isn't set up as your main system. You can't access dlc or downloaded games when offline

How come? Or maybe I misunderstood something.

Honestly, I use internet only for downloading DLC/updates (no wifi, just create a temporary hotspot).

For example, I could easily purchase/download/install DLC characters for Tekken 7 and when it's done, I can use them normally ever since with no internet connection. Does it look differently in MK11? Commander's words imply that unfortunately yes, which is simply outrageous.

NOT true.
My PS4 is set up as my main system and yet still Shang, Nightwolf and Shao Kahn are unavailable in MK11 if the console is offline, and the same goes for all of the stuff in the kustomization menu.
MK11 is constantly checking online to verify the account.

EDIT:
I have the physical version of MK11, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I honestly believe this is the reason they go for another reboot. NRS has changed its mind on many characters and intends to change their backstories and personalities (Sindel, Cabal, Skarlet, Mileena, Jade & Kotal), the nature of the realms and the Elder Gods, and so on. And instead of doing it gradually, they said 'F*&k it, lets scrap everything and go to the beginning again - this time doing it from scratch, without the past holding us back'.

I understand it, but it doesn't make it any less lazy.

You're probably gonna think I'm bullshitting right now, but I just unplugged my ethernet cable and booted the game, went into Versus mode, and was able to pick Shang Tsung and Nightwolf, and I too have the physical version.

Then it must have been something that they recently patched in with the Terminator update then, because prior to that I know that it didn’t work for me, and I have my PS4 set as primary.
I know for a fact that selecting the DLC characters over a month ago without internet wasn’t working, because Shang is 1 of my mains in this game.

EDIT:
Also, not all DLC is accessible without internet.
I have the Halloween skin pack and none of those skins will load in local or tournament mode if you don’t have internet. And yes, I have all 3 variations with the same skin and gear.

MK11 is on the list of the top 20 selling PS4 games, sitting at #12, above Red Dead 2, Rocket League, God Of War and Spider-Man.
This is why I don’t believe that MK11 numbers are dropping by that much.

That's for October. They had a huge sale, free weekend (PS4/XBOX only) and Terminator come out and lack of games. So nothing impressive. Also PS4 version is the most stable one. So once again I am confused, why they even bother with other platforms. Why waste money on ports, if you can't even do them right. Just keep it to consoles.

I don't understand it.

I play this game on the X, and I don't have any issues whatsoever. If anything, it looks better than the PS4, due to better resolution. I only occasionally noticed a blink-and-you'll-miss-it stutter when Player 1 performs his intro animation when a match starts - although that could just be my TV.

Can't comment on the PC port, but I'm pretty sure it'll be the worst, if history is anything to go by.

How so? Last time I checked, they accused the haters as being misogynists ala Ghostbusters, blah blah blah. When did they say that they will revert to their old ways? Honestly curious, not being sarcastic.

We're gonna get woke sooner or later. Misucra simply refuses to accept this.

Not to mention... Sindel... new shitstorm is coming. So it has been officially confirmed. She is now super evil, cares about her privileges and as Tarkatan Trash would say: is a "slut", based on her intros.

Stop kinkshaming Sindel. #BDSM

Brother, game came out 7 months ago. And it's already #12 on its biggest platform, after free weekend and a 40% sale. Xbone/Switch/PC stats when?

Brother, I'm pretty sure that the PS4 and XB1 are the sturdiest platforms, as they have been since MKX.
The point is that it's 7 months later and still selling, meaning that more new people are playing it.
I'm not saying that sales didn't have anything to do with it, but rather that the whole "game iz dead" or that the "game is dying" argument that I've heard before doesn't make sense.
Also, on another note, after the issues with the ports of Arkham City, MK9, Injustice and MKX, why are people still buying WB / NRS games on PC?
Are people really THAT masochistic?

Fool me ten times, shame on you. Fool me eleven times ...

Game lost most of its playerbase, that's simply how games work and why people say "game is dying". #12 against games that were released ages ago, with a sale and free weekend? God of War on #15? OK brother. Here: http://gamstat.com/games/

I don't really care anyways, just explaining.

Edit: As for your PC question. Because NRS keeps swearing on their mum that PC version is gonna be awesome?

1. Not everyone likes playing on consoles.
2. Not everyone wants to buy a console for one/two games.
3. Not everyone can afford a console.
4. Blaming people for buying a product on a platform it is being marketed for, is... idiotic. Yeah, sure you can blame people AFTER the launch. When they keep paying for the game, even though the game is clearly broken. Now that isn't masochism, that is just pure stupidity and ignorance. But if company says "HEY WE ARE SELLING THIS GAME ON THIS PLATFORM." and you have only this specific platform. So what now? Is that person suddenly an idiot for wanting to play the game? Especially if he waited for quite some time? Yeah, sure he could sit and wait. But I don't blame people for not wanting to miss out on the first days of excitement. And once again, if company says. Hey the game will be on this platform and it will work fine? The company is at fault, for lying. You can only blame people for trusting/hoping. And if that is a crime, then we are lost.
5. Depends on what we are talking about, when we say that game is dying/dead. Is game dead player wise? No. Even on PC I managed to get people in less than 30 seconds, though most of them were living on another side of the planet with pings ranging from 100 to 300ms.

Is game dying esports wise? Yes. Now for people that don't play in tourneys, they don't give a shit, but since the day I saw that leaked email, I paid very close attention to "game designed around esports".

In business sense, MK11 is a failure. It failed at the task it was "designed" for. Execs don't give two shits about, if I, you or anyone else who is non pro playing the game. They just drop enough content to hook casuals for initial sales. After that, "fvck off and have a nice day". It is Esports that matters to them the most. You see for the past half of the decade, every single corp has been obsessed with hitting that "Esports Goldmine". It is VERY profitable (also one of the many reasons, why they began censoring stuff.). Sponsors, contracts, investors, marketing deals, etc. That's where the real money comes in.

Fighting games after all are not your single player games or multiplayer games like GTA Online. To keep them afloat you have to earn money in different ways. Fighting games are very heavy on maintenance, so cash has to flow constantly. You can't depend on game sales for that. You need something more reliable. So Esports it is.

And how is MK11 doing in that category? One of the lowest viewerships, one of the lowest number of entries. Let's not forget how weak EVO 2019 was for MK11 (and game just literally came out).

Every single tournament you see same faces. So is MK11 a smart investment? Hell no. Is it blossoming business wise? No.

And showing ONE MONTH means absolutely nothing. Not to mention that October was the busiest month for MK11 since the launch. What about September? What about August? Yeah sure. MK11 had successful launch. Though not as successful as MKX. Which is already a fail. They failed to beat the prequel in sales. After those two months, I saw a very steady drop in player numbers and activity. MK11 as a topic itself was slowly disappearing. Especially thanks to Youtube censoring and limiting viewership on MK related videos (ironic).

Not to mention. They had to introduce new variations, do MULTIPLE sales, make a free weekend and release Terminator DLC with a movie IN ONE MONTH. So yeah. Entire October was busy time for them. They had to do some serious pumping to the b$tch, so it wouldn't go out of gas.

So everything makes perfect sense. MK11 is indeed on life support. If you need so much effort, to keep game relevant, then there is something wrong.

And how long do you think this game will run? 6 months? 1 year? 2 years? You really think they will keep game supported for YEARS?

In short. Let's wait and see. Game isn't a corpse, but it ain't doing good either. And judging by how they manage everything. That won't change.
