Mortal Kombat 11 General Discussion Media Thread

Speaking of Shinnok and a few others.
Seems like Rain, Reptile, and Cyrax may not be in. Mainly because of 1:06. Not only are they referred to as "klassic" characters but their icons are that of their previous iterations.

Figured that Cyrax wouldn't be in, but now I'm not expecting Rain or Reptile to where before I was definitely expecting them considering what looks like Rain on the menu and that one leak with the Spanish voice actor involving Reptile. But who knows, they still may end up in the game. But for now I'm lowering my expectations for those characters.

Wouldn't get your hopes down yet, Mr. Vlad.

You see, back in the day, many people regarded some characters as out of MKX because of their outfits, specially in the comics.

That has not proven to be true.

Also, in MKX, there were reused artwork for Sektor and Cyrax, and a render of Bo' Rai Cho dead. As you know, all of them (in a way) were in MKX. Rain is an issue for MK, he was DLC in MK9, he was present in MKX, but I don't know what to expect now. He's always that character that they seem to not care much, but always finds a way in, there's that artwork in the menu, for example.

Reptile might be in. Rain, idk. There's Shinnok's icon there, and we know he at the least appears in the game. Tbh I didn't find his skin as smooth as Raiden, Idk if that was because he was beaten, but my hopes for him are low, at the least my comfort is that he will probably play an important role in MK11, so let's say this is covered.

But he is supposed to be dead. Ok, multiple timelines, however, Idk how this works for an Elder God! So, Reptile will probably be in, I don't see this game without him at all.

Those are definitely good points. Reptile especially seems odd to be out considering he hasn't missed a single mainline MK game except for MK1, the original MK3(weren't any organic masked ninjas), MK Deception(Onaga), and MK vs DC.(As half of the cast was DC and I'd imagine it'd be hard to water down Reptile's fatalities.)

For the ninjas in general, I mean, with some niche exception there's always at least a couple of MK ninjas outside of Sub-Zero and Scorpion. So I'm not too worried at all when it comes to the presence of those characters. And if Skarlet got in due to fan demand I know that they definitely know about the demand for characters such as Rain. So he still has a pretty good chance.

Not to mention in the same source I posted Skarlet also has an item just like the characters I listed. The only thing that throws me off is how the icons for Reptile and Rain look like their MKX counterparts. But that could just be a number of things. "Klassic character" could just be referring to characters from the old MK games rather than non-returning characters. So I'm feeling 50/50 on them being in. Just to keep my expectations grounded. So if they're not in I'm not too shocked and if they are then it makes it that much better.

To be honest, I think they're probably going to drop a number of characters from the previous game anyway if it's true that they're going all in on fanservice in this game. Baraka(and being respected in his intros so far surprisingly), Kabal, and Skarlet being in makes me think that might be the case. I have no idea what the roster is going to look like, which actually makes things pretty intriguing.

Saw an interview with Ed where he was talking about a returning character being scanned that will surprise people, I wonder if it's the actor who play Shang Tsung in the MK movie? He had tweeted about him last year, maybe they wanted him in the game then?

I know the actress they scanned for Cassie doesn't look all that hot in this game but you still have to admit that the quality of the characters face is almost a generational leap between MKX and MK11.

Hey everyone! This is my first time here on TRMK, and I'm glad to be a part of the community. I saw a lot of footage from uploads of all the awesome youtubers and media reps who went to witness the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal (bless those champions) and I'm so hyped for the new release! That said I'm trying to piece together and speculate what will be the outcome of some game design choices that Netherrealm might make, and check out what other opinions and perspectives there are about it.

First off, and everyone's favorite, DLC and microtransactions! How do you all think they're going to implement this? Will they strictly be kombat packs again? Apparently some people have claimed that there have been leaks on what we'll see from DLC. For example, youtube channel History Behind the Warrior seems to have found a description of the game, which seems kind of like the game's marketing pitch towards/for retail distributors.

Here's the link ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5V3xA53FBM

As you can see under the Premium Edition it shows that characters will be purchasable, but also there will be something called a battle pass as well. How will they work? I speculate that they will follow the Fortnite battle pass business model; therefore making blocked and timed seasons that players can buy into and then unlock different exclusive DLC items over time that will no longer be available afterwards. It seems plausible as it has taken Fortnite to extraordinary heights in terms of profit margins (at least no Battle Royale mode, right?) This is also a likely take, due to the different customization items that have, what seem to be, different rarities attached to them. The affected items so far are the following: full character skins, outfit pieces, intros, victories, end of round taunts, brutalities, and even fatalities. The rarities seem to be mortal, mythic, and elder so far (mirroring common, rare, and epic color-wise from other games.

NONE of these items have an effect on gameplay, so ALL of these categories seem up for grabs in a potential battle pass. Imagine missing out on an exclusive Scorpion fatality because you put the game down for a few months? Exclusivity sure is a money maker, and that's been proven time and time again. Proof of these items with rarities are shown in this video showing MK11 customization from the reveal event, uploaded by Dynasty after getting his hands on the demo.

I'm also assuming there will be a store as well for these items, but they will be versions that cannot be found in the battle pass, but instead bought with the in-game (I'm sure purchasable too) currency. What are your thoughts? Would this monetization be ok for this game or should everything just stick to DLC pack bundles?

The next topic is about what could be the additional -ality in the game. We have both regular fatalities and brutalities shown in gameplay already, but will there be a new one? I say yes, and not just any yes, but I AM COMPLETELY POSITIVE that Friendships will be in this game! "How can you be so sure?" you say. Well I can't be 100% because this is speculation, but here's what I can gather. The new fatalities end with a stop in time, similar to the ones used in the Injustice 2 victory poses. This pause enhances the showmanship and wow factor of said fatalities, trying to highlight the most gruesome points of the finisher.

Here, let's try an example. Imagine Sub-zero fighting Scorpion, Sub-zero wins, FINISH HIM appears before both of them. The camera pans to Sub-zero as he charges up what seems to be a freeze orb. After charging, he winds up his arm to make a pitch at Scorpion. He makes the throw, but what follows is unprecedented. Our camera trails what seems to be a snowball mid-flight flying towards Scorpion. The snowball makes contact, HEADSHOT! It bursts into a snowy poof, Scorpion is in a slo-mo stupor, a fun little jingle plays, followed by, FRIENDSHIP. Another example is "when" Johnny Cage wins (whenever he's confirmed) he'll walk up to the opponent, while we watch him from the other perspective. he places something around our neck and says, "ya did good champ." Then he spins around, making a smug face with his classic shades, striking a pose, and what do we see? The enemy has a second place medal on, while he's wearing first! All of this in a moment frozen in time. A moment of hilarity. I've got a good feeling about the potential, and it would make a great dichotomy with fatalities, and further realize the use of using a cinematic still shot to finish a game. What are your thoughts on Friendships? Could they do it another way? How could they implement a different -ality?

I'm so excited for the game that I want to theorize all sorts of potential successes and shortcomings the game may have. Let me know what you think, and what other ideas or speculations you have about the game. Thanks for reading! :D

That would make my decade.

Duuuude. That would be so dope.

Now look at what have you done. You raised my expectations to unknown heights.

Haha I hope I'm right, just putting two and two together but I could be coming up with five so don't bet on me being right lol.

If they're going for big name voice actors, it would make sense. They brought him back for MK Legacy season 2 which was only a few years ago, so it isn't completely out of the realm of possibility

Anyone else think Skarlet looks like Anna Hopkins with short hair?

Looks nothing like her. She shares the same problem as Cassie does: chubby face, rounded head and of course, the "lemme speak with your manager" haircut. Picture on the top is a solid 9, picture on the bottom is a 3 and that's me being generous.

You mentioned that the faces are a giant leap forward...Sure. It's a new engine and they had 4 years. But compared to other games, they are really, really lagging behind. Here's Nyx from Quake Champions, here's Athena (I'm playing on low settings due to FPS but you can get the idea). The studio behind this game has no where near the same resources and time as NRS. They simply have better talent it seems. NRS still has time and this was probably an older version used for demo purposes, but I'm not expecting miracles. Injustice 2 also looked like shit.

It's not even the faces that throw me off, it's the entire character models. Baraka looks massive, and yet he has such a defined chest that people with 1% bodyfat don't have. Scorpion and Sub-Zero still have massive cores, and yet their heads are bigger than their arms. Women have heads as big as men. This is failure of basic anatomy.

I'm just waiting to see how they're going to butcher Jade. Looking at the NRS track record, my guess would be the following: mostly covered up, zero muscle tone, no curves, pancake ass, flatchested (which probably would be best since NRS refuses to implement jiggle tits physics, even though it's realistic), massive head with a "butter face" and a "Manager. NOW!!!" haircut. Almost as if NRS has a fetish with women looking like that.

I hope that Kano is just DLC and is not taking a space in the roster. He's definitely the least important character from the original game.

I'm not entirely sure how the variations work this time. Do we have 3 "default" variations to choose from and you can also customize or there are no default variations at all, just custom? I thought Baraka was unplayable in MKX because they hadn't been able to create 3 different variations...

I'm honestly indifferent about Fujin and Rain, but I find myself rooting against them just to see how upset you can get. Less than half the roster revealed and you're this mad? This is going to be such an awesome wait

I also think it's ridiculous that people are complaining about the roster size considering that every character is a brand new iteration of themselves. This isn't like Injustice 2 where they copied over Batman, Superman, Harley etc. Almost everyone functions like a brand new character. Not even Scorpion's spear works like it used to in past MK games.

I had a good feeling at first, until I saw Sub-Zero's alternative costumes, and the little rain classic thing in the towers...

I wouldn't be so mad if I not wanted to see him in story mode so bad, and wanted to see him have conversation so bad with other characters, and see him have brutalities...

Sonya already had those in the previous game, why not Rain for once...

But he is in the konquest mode picture. And yes i don't understand why we need to have Sonya every single game
