If so, then I may pick them up on October 15th.
Invasion mode skins for next Season looks whatever, but the new / revised Towers of Time (similar to the MK11 version) will be kinda neat to have back.
Gotta remember to put my Series S into sleep mode tonight so that I don't have to sit and wait while that bullshit updates.

This is the most Marvel-esque, cookie-cutter cutscene mode ever. And it lasted for about 2 hours, less if you cut out the fights.

The highlights for me were:
1) Every time Cringe Boy WW2 opened his mouth, soul-destroying cringe was unleashed.
2) Sub-Zero was an absolute idiot, only to be out-idiot'd by his emo version.....Idiot Saibot.

Otherwise, it goes exactly how you'd expect an NRS Cutscene Mode to go. Quirky dialogue, cringe, fight for 2 rounds, cutscene, DONE. Repeat until very end. Not even a QTE or something. Also for fuck's sake.... Dominic needs to stop hamfisting his cringe romance scenes, they're unbearable.

I'm happy as fuck that I didn't spend $50 to get any of that.

- Animalities, 4 new stages, Towers of Time, kameo Brutalities and 2 new Brutalities per character were all free in the update.

Was messing around with the Towers of Time weekly requirements for additional Krystals and I'm already up to halfway on the blood spilled for the 75 Krystals this week. Got to level 15 in Invasions pretty quickly so I'm guessing that NRS lowered the difficulty in that mode significantly or made XP just that much quicker to farm.
Gonna give Noob, Cyrax and Sektor a try on the free DLC trial Towers and if I like them then on October 15th I'll get whichever ones I like.

To be fair, the story has BEEN utter garbage since MKX.
Kittelsen did a MUCH better job with the MKX comics but any input that he had in the MKX comics or game was quickly dismissed by shithead Dominic as "headcanon."
We finally got interesting writing for Reiko, Havik, Daegon and Sheeva (of all characters) in the MKX comics and he throws all of that to the wayside for whatever the fuck THIS Havik is supposed to be in Khaos Reigns.
MK9 gets a pass from most people in the fanbase because most of it is straight up MK1 and MKII and then it deviates in the MK3 part of the story, but even that shit with Sindel single-handedly killing off a shitload of the roster was complete ass.
It purely smelled of "Ok, guys, let's wrap this shit up" type of writing that was in a hurry to get to the end.

The expansion story was going to be live streamed / on YouTube and Twitch streams for people to unlock the 3 special kameo skins anyways. I think either PND Ketchup or Mustard streamed the whole story the other day, too.

Don't understand why that's that a problem for some people. It was Sindel + Shang + Shao powerup. And the dumbasses charged at her one at a time. They got rekt fair and square. That's when the villains were powerful. Nightwolf had to sacrifice himself to get rid of her. Shao had to be rekt multiple times and only finally got destroyed by an Elder Gods Raiden.

Roll MK11 and that clown gets owned by Kitana. She didn't even break a sweat. YASS KWEEN etc. Some people say he was great in Aftermath and I'm like.... what... you can play as Sindel and take all Shao fights, so it's not canon. All he's done is cripple Lui and pummel a damaged Geras. Even Kotal Kuck's head was probably not his doing.

Then MK1 storms in and Shao is even a bigger loser. I'd say after Scrub Zero/Noob, he took the most L's. It's a recurring theme in NuMK stories now that all the male characters are fucking morons or losers. They also almost always draw the short end of the stick when it comes to humiliation or death or both. It got so bad at this point, if you start watching a cutscene between a female vs male fighter, you can be 90% confident that the former will win, and if not, she'll do some crazy damage first before going down. Same with their "leadership", it's so boring.

Blaming Dom alone for this is a bit wrong because it all starts at the top. With Ed Boon spazzing out on Twitter you kinda get the idea on who approves and guides this shit.

Sometimes I'll see game deals that Warrio64 (or whatever his name is) and check those out as well.

So, my bigger issue isn't the POWER level of Sindel (I get that), but rather the whole nature / plot bullshit of "Let's conveniently have all of these people in 1 location" in order to quickly kill them off and rush the story to an end.
Sorry, not sorry, but that was downright goddamn anti-climactic. It's on the same level of stupid as Liu Kang or Kung Lao going "Are you ok?" to a dead monk that just got stabbed through the head by Baraka in Shaolin Monks.
I know that opinion tends to ruffle feathers (in general), though, because people put MK9 on some sort of pedestal.
Sure, there's stuff that MK9 did right, but story mode (imo) wasn't 1 of them.

And yes, while my reply in that last post was mainly aimed at Dominic, to paraphrase "it takes a village to raise an idiot"...or something (that's a joke). Ed et al. have all approved for this shit to go through, so it's as much of their blame, too. Agreed 100%.
The thing is that since Dominic is the head writer and this is HIS baby, then it comes off as some weird fanfic without another person like Kittelsen or Vogel (since he's in the art department) to check hnim and bounce ideas off of and go "Well, how about trying this instead?"

For FUCKS SAKE.......Aftermath was better than this, as that felt like it had some of Kittelsen's input too and not JUST Dominic's main fanfic. Like, that's what I mean that it felt like at least 1 game ago there was at least OK writing, whereas with MK1 it's gone downhill. I'm also not only saying Kittelsen is the end-all-be-all answer, but goodness fucking gracious have a TEAM of writers, hire Tobias as a consultant or something so that more ideas get bounced around.
 
I don't see how that's anti-climatic or R U OK level.... They had to wrap it up somehow, and show just how much OP Shao Kahn and Sindel (who got boosted) are. I'm pretty sure it's one of the longest, if not longest MK stories so far. Don't think it would make a difference if Sindel would take her sweet ass time killing them, the result would be the same and leads to MKX.

IMO MK9 story was by far the best NRS story. Just compare the amount of people working on it to the latter games...and it really shows.

It sucks that Vogel has nothing to do with MK story (he did in MK9...). 3D Era stories were great. Now you just have Dominic as the sole writer, and the best he can come up with is Kringe Reigns, with Ed Boon approving and directing his shit. Man just thinking about the ending.... It doesn't lead anywhere and basically goes back to square 1. They didn't even bother to sequel bait. I think they're done with MK for good.
 
It's anti-climactic because it feels rushed (imo). I know that they had to wrap it up, but I dunno....that whole scene just feels forced.
Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a convenient self-contained plot with Nightwolf taking them both out.
Dunno. Might have had less of an issue with it if she went off the rails and killed him off too and continue to go uncontested and lived.
She's revived by Quan Chi in MK9, only to be killed off a few chapters later and become a revanant in MKX, to then suddenly being retconned to being evil the whole time in MK11........to then being now good Sindel in MK1.....which then gets killed off in the same story....yet again.

Like, for fucks sake....THIS is why I have a hard time taking anything MK lore-wise seriously any more.
How many more motherfucking times is this woman going to get revived, killed, revived, killed, revived, etc, etc, etc.....over and over again?

I feel like I just witnessed MK vs DC levels of story writing with forced romance and girl power but even worse. Atleast MK vs DC was fun in a so bad it's good way. Mk1 and it's dlc is just constant cringe.
 
Looks like I dodged a bullet with waiting until reviews came in. I'll probably wait until the Utimate edition is on sale this time. Cyrax and Sektor seem pretty brain dead from what I'm seeing. I wonder how long will it be before NRS nerfs them both to the ground. Only time will tell.....
 
Finished Dragons of Destiny a few weeks ago. Seems like Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman took some time traveling inspiration from MK11 and so forth. For instance, the gods don't exist in the same point of time as mortals and the gods can detect irregularities from the past and if something is off from the past and so forth:

So lads decided to put in the Deception skin, yet they made a whole speech during MK11, how women wouldn't go into battle dressed in bathing suits. Sniff, sniff Smell that? That's desperation.

Ghost face was teased finally but no gameplay yet so it's not worth posting IMO. The only reason I'm bringing it up is because of the lack of hype NRS seems to have with the DLC content. I've been busy playing Silent hill 2 so I'm out of the loop as far as MK1 is concerned. Did everyone rage quit the game over Cyrax and Homelander or something? I'm just curious.
Edit there a short clip of gameplay but beyond stab....stab and ....ex stab there's not much to say lmao.

As much as I don't care for guests, (imo) what would've made the most sense is Ghostface coming out near / around Halloween, but since the DLC characters haven't come out before until after the Invasion season ends, then he won't release until mid-November. Again, I don't care for guests, but sometimes the way that NRS releases stuff or does things for MK1 is goddamn downright mind-boggling. :ROFLMAO:

They do other stupid shit like having the UMK3 Noob Saibot skin in the premium store from the Khaos Reigns pre-order release date (September 24th), but then the skin was rotated out of the shop on the exact date that the individual characters (Noob, Cyrax and Sektor) were available for separate purchase (October 15th). Like, who in the fucking hell was that skin in the premium shop for since pre-order people got them included and you can't get character skins for DLC characters that you don't own (meaning the people who just wanted Noob couldn't get that separate skin before buying the character).

That all said, the Halloween skins for Reiko, Johnny, Mileena Li Mei and Smoke in the Towers DO give me hope that there will be Thanksgiving and Christmas Towers and skins in the ToT, but I'm not holding my breath for it. Would just be cool if other characters aside from Shao, Kitana and Reptile got Christmas skins this time around.

In all seriousness though, As I've said before, the DEI, ESG ect money has probably dried up. They have to make money the old fashioned way again so it's back to milking their old ip's..... again. I've got a feeling that the Shadow of Mordor developers new Wonder Women game that was announced a couple years back will never see the light of day. WB could have quietly cancelled it but who knows.
