Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

The roof the roof the roof is on fire. We don't need no water let that mother fucker burn..as far as I'm concerned everybody who bought this game contributed to the piece of shit suits golden parachute on the way out.

All my Midway OGs have been thru this before. MK is proven way to popular and profitable to go by the way side. All we can do is hope it falls into the hands of a team of devs and writers who actually cherish the lore as much as Tobias did.

See you guys on the other side. Hopefully we can meet up under better circumstances like a worthy entry into the series.

Yuck can you imagine being a shrill for this company and this game. I would feel slimy and disgusting all over. Smh

Also buying Tekken 8. 🤷‍♂️gotta get my fighting game fix on.

How was the quan chi release..I heard servers where down and it's all hell loose on the seasonal content. 🤪🤣😂
Eh. There is no future for that game. And whatever happens to MK afterwards... most likely won't see it for a long time. Probably will be able to finish my fan game version of it, on which I am working at snail pace as it is. Midway MK went out with Armageddon (yeah, yeah there was MKcDC, but I am talking pure MK game.) which was a bang and now Netherrealm will go out with a fart known as MK1.

That's the fate of all games under corporate. They get fucked. Maybe some indies will be able to buy the franchise years later (tis a joke), but eh. Whatever happens to it, it ain't my business anymore. Will just finish this MK project of mine and I will be content with MK for the rest of my life. I think it is time to just... move on.

I doubt WBs is going anywhere. Even if they file for bankruptcy they'll get a gov bail out or something similar to General Motors back in the day. They/ve got plenty of lobbyist taking cash from them. The best we can hope for is the CEO steps down and some other asshat takes his place. I definitely don't see them pulling a Square Enix and selling off all their western IPs. I do fear that some studios like Rocksteady and WB Montreal might be next on the chopping block. There is that Wonder Woman game be developed by Monolith but as far as I can tell it's not cancelled. As long as there is money being made from somewhere. WB will still be around.

Haven't played as him yet as I'll get him next week, but the Invasion shit really isn't worth it once you have all of your characters to level 35 and the kameos to level 15, respectively (which I do).
I may just wait until I can get Quan Chi and grind up his mastery level and Khameleon's and call it a day.
I heard someone refer to the online shop in the game as essentially a "Fortnite shop" and that's probably the best description for it.
Still haven't spent a single dime on anything in this game post-lauch and that includes Tremor which I got with $5 of my MS rewards points.
Really is a shame, because the fighting aspect of the game is pretty solid.

WokeBros going 6 feet under puts a massive grin on my face.

"BUT BUT BUT IF IT WASNT FOR WB, MK9 WOULDN'T BE MADE!!!"

WokeBros nuked that game from the stores and didn't even allow NRS to fix it. Hell if WokeBros gets nuked themselves, and I mean nuked for good, not just being bought by someone.... Chances are NRS will have to downsize, which is a good thing, and will have to do either find a publisher or go indie. Plus it may finally mean MK9 will get brought up to stores again, they'll need the $. As long as the next publisher won't be as current_year as WokeBros.

WB isn't a bank, there is no reason for Government to bail them out. It will be split and sold in pieces.

You underestimate on just how bad their situation is.

Let's not forget that Warner Bros was just in the merger with Discovery. And it wasn't equal merger. Discovery acquired WB. Freaking Discovery. That's how bad it was for WB.

Then Zaslav came in from Discovery and started shutting all flood gates down.
CNN+ a failed experiment that cost 300 million, was shut down within a month.
Like 10 people watch CNN, regardless of Zaslav's investment and efforts to make it more "watchable".
Aside "Barbie", the rest of the movies bombed or didn't reach their targets. The worst part is that some of those movies cost a LOT to make. Like THE FLASH.
The only movie they can depend on to make money this holiday season is Aquaman 2... They are fucked in that area.
None of their games are making enough money as well.
MK1 was rushed out, to make quick buck and even that is failing, hence insane prices and monetization.
Suicide Squad will bomb as well. That one is just your typical loot shooter with heavy monetization.
Their debt is in 100+ billions.

Not to mention sheer number of movies they vaulted/cancelled, that were almost or fully done, just so they can use them as tax write off. You don't do this, unless you're in deep financial shit.

This is by definition "death by a thousand cuts".

General Motors wasn’t a bank ether but it didn’t matter. Governments bail giant corporations out of debt all the time. WB will most likely be downsized but that’s it. Barbie made a billion at the box office plus there’s joker 2 that will be releasing next year. The first film made a billion so it’s not like WBs can’t make money. if WB does somehow go under it just means some other equally corrupt publisher will pick up MK and do the same thing everyone’s complaining about now.

They are way past a mere billion helping them. Even if Joker 2 makes a billion, it will be just a drop in the water, when it comes to how much they are losing/bleeding currently. Even if MK1 was right now a massive hit, it wouldn't matter for them.

Their company is in such deep debt, that they would need Marvel level of success to stabilize. Or at least GTA levels AT MINIMUM. They need continuous successes and James Gunn won't make it happen either.

They can make money, but the amount they can make is no different from US student working in McDonalds, trying to pay off his student loan.

And really? We are comparing General Motors to WB Discovery? General Motors is an auto manufacturing company. They cover logistics. They are an essential company. When it comes to hierarchy, Banks and any corporations contributing to nation's infrastructure are essential. WB is an entertainment company. It ain't essential. It's not like Government likes bailing out these corpos either. So no way they would be bailing them out, unless WB has some stuff to blackmail politicians with.

No one will bail them out. WB's value as a company is incredibly low right now, so it is most likely that most of the wealthy individuals will be aiming for the assets, rather than the company itself.

GM are no more essential than any other car manufacturer. Funny that you mention GM being ''essential infrastructure'' for the US government because once they got that fat check from uncle sam they moved all their main production facilitys to Canada. So much for all those American Jobs! The whole reason I brought up GM is the way they bled money on terrible idea after terrible idea yet they still got bailed out. It just proves if you have enough people in high places in your pocket. You can get away with everything. WB are just as deep in that shit as Disney or any other slimeball corporation. WB isn't going anywhere. The systems too fucked for that to happen.

Hey I didn't say people are smart there. Not the first time, massive investment is made and then people fuck off somewhere else. I can easily bet that nobody is bailing WB. At best it will be merged or bought by someone. These corpos aren't immortal. It ain't easy to take them down, but once they at the death doors, it is over. You can bail WB as much as you want, but if they aren't making money, then you're just throwing money away.

Car manufacturers and banks at least have a chance to make money back. But once brand is damaged for entertainment company. That's it. You will be eaten alive by other corpos.

Disney as a brand is damaged beyond belief yet they continue to trot along just fine thanks to all that ESG money they keep bleeding out. They’ve been the butt end of every joke ever since they got ahold of Star Wars and Marvel.

Yeah well unlike WB, Disney is gigantic (not like WB is small, but you get the idea). More blood to spill. They aren't just making movies and games. They have multiple theme parks across the world, too. Also last time I checked they haven't been bought by a company known for documentaries and reality shows yet, either. Once Disney is officially for sale, then pretty much we can start the countdown. And seeing what is happening with their top management... won't be surprised if it will be happening soon. Bob Iger (CEO of Disney, for those that don't know) is in so much deep shit, that he is already putting his stuff in the box. Zaslav has no idea what to do, but Iger? That guy is hitting everything, but the right buttons.

Corporations are designed to have every safety net possible. So obviously they won't crumble overnight. Especially giant ones. But eventually everything gives out. Speaking of which. You mentioned ESG... funny you say that. Blackrock is sweating right now as well. Their primary wealth, real estate, is under attack. Bill being pushed to force Blackrock to sell homes/properties that are causing insane price hikes, making people unable to buy homes anymore. Hell, getting rent nowadays is becoming a luxury.

In the end, the saying remains true. "The bigger you are, the harder the fall."

These corporations seem massive and unstoppable, but if you look at how they operate and their finances, then you realize that they are just sand castles.

They are built fast on venture capital from massive investments, they are usually run by people who have no direct experience in manufacturing/creation of the said product, so they have no idea how customers think and what is required to make the said product/creation appealing. There is also no proper financial management. They always OVERSPEND on things. The stability of power is shaky cause everything is run by a board of people, who just like CEO come from different areas, with no interest in what the company itself manufactures and are just there to play politics and power plays.

But having said all of that, the real reason why Corporations need all of the safety nets and are not designed to last long... the necessity for infinite growth. This is why. Every. Single, Corporation hits the wall, once they reach the max potential users. It is always going down the drain from there. Once they hit the wall, they still need to increase their profits... sooo... increase the prices! Add more payment plans! Offer new service plan! More ads!

Once that happens, this is it. Corporation is heading into a death spiral. They start increasing prices, then they start cuttings the costs, neglecting problems, laying off people, etc. So the product/service starts suffering, while they keep increasing the price for it. Soon it leads to people leaving the said corporation and looking for alternatives or making their own. And just like that, an empire falls from a thousand cuts.

Corpos literally eat themselves.

Disney's theme parks have been struggling for a while now. Thats why they had to shut down most of their Star war themed rides not to mention that Star Wars themed hotel they we're charging like five grand for that turned into a massive fail lmao! As for WB they are no stranger to theme parks using Universal for the Harry Potter stuff DC, and Loony Toons with six flags/Cedar Point not mention Hanna Barbera. I'm sure they didn't just hand out permission to use their IPs to these parks out of the goodness of their hearts. At the end of the day nether company is going anywhere. CEOs come and go but these corporations will always be here in some form. As far as the ESG goes...There's always a revenue stream coming from somewhere. They have way too many hands in multiple cookie jars at this point. Politics aside, I'm not saying that there is no struggle but no matter how much you want them to be WBs are far from deaths door. IF Disney can still continue to survive with all their dumb shit so can WB.

Ok. Once again. We are talking different scales here. Disney dwarfs WB. If WB had the fail, that Disney had in the past 5 years, WB would be already gone. They had literally just 2 bad years, and you already have economists talking about how fucked WB is. Once again. Size difference.

Once again, I am not saying that WB will just go one day and put a sign on a door that says "Out of business". That's not how corpos work. A good example of how that works is: Activision.

They just got bought by Microsoft. Activision in time will disappear as a name. Only Blizzard will remain and will be used as a name to attract people. Blizzard and any studios that made games under Activision will be used, but Activision itself will be gone as it was nothing, but publisher.

Activision wasn't a tiny corporation either, but they fucked up big time and then Microsoft came in and ate them. That's what will happen to WB at the rate they are going. Either they will get bought by one entity or get split among many different ones.

But once again comparing Disney and WB is just... no. You can't compare them. Disney dwarfs WB. You're talking about a company that basically funded Florida state single handedly. The only company to own their own city. Hell it was their district. They could have legally built a power plant, there is they wanted. Multiple theme parks that they own. The Marvel universe that funded them for 10+ years. It is a TITAN. It will take a whole lot for Disney to go down. Literally the fact that they could build a whole ass hotel and let it fail, without going bankrupt should show how much dosh these guys have. For most of the companies shit like that would be death sentence. Corporation or not.

WB doesn't even come close to that power. Once again. WB was literally just merged with Discovery, cause they didn't make money. They already failed once. Next time the new buyer/s could just rip it apart and take the assets. Not the first time corporations have disappeared. It just these ones are massive, but in the end no one is too big to fall.

What did I just say? WHAT DID I JUS SAY? HUH? HUH? Fookin said it will be happening.

Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount just held meetings for possible Merger.

Yep. Tis that bad. They are all merging, just trying to survive. And for the record. Paramount is the top dog in this merger.

Just because one corporation can bleed money out more than another doesn't make them different from another. By that logic you could say Micosoft shits all over Nintendo and Sony in the gaming space since Micosoft has way more money to burn yet they continue to be last in the gaming market. Thats why they bought Activision because their IPs are no where near as recognizable or successful as Nintendo or Sony. It's basically what Sega did when they bailed out of the console business back in the early 2000s but on a much grander scale. Why? because it's all about the war of IPs since they always have value. As long as said company holds the rights to popular IPs. There will always be a value to investors. Thats why giant companies like WB and Disney will continue to survive.

Merging with another company and declaring bankruptcy while being bought out by a bigger corporation are not the same thing. Companies do this shit all the time. This isn't Micosoft buying Activison. It's not even the first time WBs has done this. I get you have a massive hard on for WB to die but you're putting the cart before the horse.

My MK ranking right now would be:

UMK3
MK2
MKT
MK11
MKX
MK1
MK9
MK4
MK1
MKA
MKD
MKDA
MKvsDCU

MK1 may be better in terms of gameplay than MK11, but I had way more fun with MK11 than I did with MK1. Invasion Mode gets boring fast and the customization feels a big step down compare to MK11. In MK11, you can have up to 4 skins that you can pick from. In MK1, you can't have a big selection to choose from.

For me MK9 is top. With some help, I recently figured out how to change framedata for characters. Jade is officially S++ tier OP broken now. 50% meterless combos, need to tone it down a bit :ROFLMAO:

But damn that NRS programmer guy from long ago wasn't kidding.... MK9 coding wise is a fucking mess. Now obviously that much is apparent if you spend some time just playing the game... But when you actually see nonsense like 1.261169 float value which controls the duration of a move, and change that to 1.26117..... It somehow makes the move duration basically infinite, and reverting back to that value doesn't undo it. I have no words.... Ed Boon programming.

Then it's MKD, UMK3, MKSM, MKDA, MKA, MK2, MK1(not 12), MKX, MK4. Couldn't care less about MK11, MK1, vsDC or SF.

Ok. I had to step away from this conversation yesterday, cause... both your last replies were... what the fuck are you talking about?

Look if you want to have a discussion about this, please READ FULLY what I write. Cause I get a feeling you just skip through entire text and then write stuff, that makes no sense. So I will try to number my points, so you don't get lost again:

1. I literally said in my last posts, that WB won't just put a sign on their door saying "OUT OF BUSINESS". The merger is happening, because both Paramount and WB are in deep financial shit. WB HAS to merge, or it faces Bankruptcy. Right now the way they are going, they have 60% chance of going bankrupt. So if they want to avoid that, they have to merge with another Corporation.
2. I don't have a "hard on" for anything WB or even Disney. The only reason why these corporations survive is not because of investors, not because of their influence, or even their IPs, but because of the stupid fucks that keep buying their stuff, then proceed to both defend and cry about how shit it is. If anyone tried to release MK1 in 2000-2010 for even 60 bucks, people would have told them to fuck off. But now you have people that defend these practices by acting like addicts "Well, boycotting wouldn't do anything to them". Yes it would, but nobody wants to do that, cause they just want to buy the next latest thing. So I don't need to want anything for corporations, if anything it would be more accurate to say that I have a "massive hard on" for people to grow enough brain cells to rub them together. But that is both weird and it ain't happening.
3. The biggest "WTF" is your... logic? About Disney and WB. Once again... like I said BEFORE. Why are we even bringing Disney into this? Conversation was about WB. Comparing them is insane. Your argument there, made NO SENSE whatsoever.
MY LOGIC is very simple. Let me simplify for you it even more.
Imagine WB as a modern sailboat. It is massive. The size of Galleon. And then you have Disney. It is a cruise ship. It makes WB look like a rowboat by size alone. If now I used a cannon to accurately fire at both of these ships. Which one do you think would go down first? That's MY logic. It can't get any more simple, than that. Disney can get away with more stuff. They have more assets, they have more funds, they have more power, they have more everything. They can take more hits, cause they have more HP. WB on other hand has to keep merging with other corporations, to survive now, otherwise they are DONE. You get me now?

Right now we are in the state of CONSOLIDATION. Corporations will be merging to survive. In the next few years, we will see more of these corporations merge. And once merging won't be possible, then we will see corporations buying each other out. The biggest titans are Apple and Microsoft. They the biggest fish in the pond right now, so other corporations who are bleeding money, are merging to have a chance to survive against them.

As for corporations to die... like I said. People would have to stop buying their shit. Investors don't invest in something, if people don't buy stuff. But people don't have standards nowadays. They buy anything shiny. Nowadays you have people justifying the purchase of MK1 or paying 20 bucks, just to play "Diablo 4" 3 days early. The last one is especially funny, as people try to justify that purchase with some economic logic. Nah, man you're just retarded and you're funding the stupidity. Hence why Activision is now preparing for an idea to sell an expansion for 100$. Cause they know that people will buy this shit. They are just prepping people.

So if people won't do anything about it? What then? The only answer competition. Make better games at lower price. You win instantly. IN the market with no standards, people used to paying for everything... if suddenly we got a company that came in and released a fun game, that functions day one, has a fair price, loads of content and modding support or tools that allow community to make more content? They would shoot to the top. But nobody is gonna do that. Cause everyone sees that they can get away with anything nowadays. This is why Mobile style gaming is the future. People are funding their own demise and they don't care.
