Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

I'll jump back in from time to time when someone like kameo Khameleon that comes out, but otherwise, unless I'm leveling up a future DLC character like Takeda, kameo Ferra or kameo Mavado I may skip most of Season 4 (and beyond) of Invasions mode.
Invasion mode is the same un-fun shit, unfortunately, and I never cared for Mileena. Meh.
The only thing it has become any good for is leveling up to get Fatalities and Brutalities for DLC characters that should honestly be unlocked from the get-go (like with MKX).
The ONLY DLC that I actually bought post-launch was Quan Chi for $8, but so far all of the DLC kameos have been free for me thanks to MS rewards.
If I keep this up with rewards then Quan Chi and Takeda will be the only characters I would have bought when all of KP1 is said and done.
Unless another Aftermath type of expansion comes along with stages and Stage Fatalities, I'm not really playing this game as much as I used to and I'm VERY glad I didn't get the Premium Edition.

The DLC already leaked. I wont spoil it, but you wont like it. Its all guests and trilogy era chars.
There will be new stages tho. Idk if they posted it on accident, but in Quan Chi's press release screenshots they showed a new stage

Tekken 8 launched with really bad crashing issues. It was fixed within the day. MK1 had Ranked Mode desync issues for almost 2 months, then they rolled out a patch that didn't work, then a month later they actually fixed it.
It's better than that. It took them a few hours, and even though crashes happen, I still played sets. Single player was fine.

Meanwhile NRS rolls out a patch on the same day Tekken8 releases.....FATALITY.... to MK. I've never really played Tekken before, but having a blast.

In that case, I'm good with new stages (that Quan Chi one looks cool) and will probably just buy the kameo characters individually since those are essential to the core gameplay.
I'll skip out on the guests and klassic characters.
Thankfully, unlike with MK11, any of the DLC characters that I don't buy don't show up in SP Towers, so I have yet to bother with a single Omni-Man(y)
Hopefully they also throw in some stage Fatalities, with whatever update that ends up being.
I mean, I’m still fucking befuddled that MKX, MK11 and MK1 all shipped without stage Fatalities……at the very least.
Like, whose fucking dumbass idea was that?
It’s going to take something to the level of Aftermath with a story, stages, new MK characters, Stage Fatalities and a returning finisher (Animality, Friendship, etc, etc, etc) to bring MK1 back, imo.

At this point I'm using Invasion mode to level up Quan Chi and Khameleon and just waiting until the end of KP1 when Takeda comes out.

SP stuff is severely lacking in this game, and I never thought I'd yearn for the days of MK11, but between the horse shit story from Dominic, lack of content and mtx all over the place......nah, MK1 isn't where it's at for me.
Sadly, my journey that started with MK1 (in 1992) ends with MK1 (in 2024).
Zaslav is driving this franchise into the ground and it fucking sucks royally that this is what it has become, especially in a game where the characters that I've wanted to see coming back for nearly 2 decades are finally back in it (like Reiko, Havik, Nitara, Li Mei and Ashrah).

3 million copies in comparison to the 15 million copies that MK11 had sold is just sad.
They'll no doubt use their shitty sales tactics, mtx bullshit and other garbage rollout for this game though and reverse blame to be like "see people don't want 3D era characters," when people like me actually DO want the 3D era characters but they took the game out of the oven too quickly and didn't give it enough time to cook.

Wow, so much negativity! Are you guys ever happy???

But yeah. This is just... never expected to see this.

The silver lining for me, I guess, is that I did get 1 final MK game with Li Mei, Nitara, Ashrah, Tanya, Reiko, Havik, Kenshi, Quan Chi and Takeda, and then as kameos Sareena, Darrius, Frost, Shujinko, Tremor, Ferra and Mavado.
This is how MK goes out.....not with a bang but with a whimper ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With a THUNDEROUS applause......

For Tekken8.

Anyways, after playing T8 online (QM and ranked) for about 20 hours, without even being a Tekken player....

All I can say is it's a GOOD thing that Tekken 8 and SF6 happened. They've set the bar very high for fighting games, NRS simply cannot slack anymore. They need to take their best games (MK9 is one of them, no matter how hard they try to delete it) as a base and improve. Both T8 and SF6 are LOADED with content, very deep mechanics, but still have Modern Controls to help newbies or just for casual fun.

Are they perfect games? Hell no. In T8 imo the wakeup system is absolutely retarded, and the 3D fighting while it has extra level of complexity.... It also has hitbox issues and even the game struggling to autotrack during combos. MK9 had the perfect defense options.... Breakers and unique wakeups for each character, with invincibility frames and armor for bar on specific moves. Then NRS does what NRS is infamous for.....and scraps it.

NRS finally got EX Nutpunched hard. They 100% deserved it.

At this point, honestly, I'm just waiting to see when in the flying fuck Takeda will ever release (given that Peacemaker just got delayed, and Season 3 was extended for 22 more days), and to see what (if any) other stages / Stage Fatalities come down the road in an update. The Quan Chi promo one that @BBBLP put looks cool.

Jumped back on last night and Saturday night to play some rounds with my Li Mei / Frost and Li Mei / Khameleon teams, but after about 30 mins or so each night I just jumped back to the Dishonored series and spent another 90 mins playing that.

Had some asshole trying to debate about how MK11 sold 15 million copies over its lifetime, whereas MK1 doesn't have the same amount of time.

A quick Google search for that time frame shows that MK11 had sold 11 million copies as of June 5th of 2019 and was the 3rd highest selling game of 2019, WITHIN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS FROM RELEASE!
Whereas it's 5 months later and MK1 has only sold a quarter of that, with 3 million copies.
Like, I love the MK franchise, but I will never understand anyone that fucking boot-licks for a faceless company.

The entire "sales" argument is pure shit anyways. There's no way to confirm it, you basically need to be super gullible and trust what some "source" says.... WB says game sold 11 million? That's it, you just trust their word. Doesn't say if it's sold to retail.....doesn't mention returns or the massive MK11-style discounts.....doesn't explain which platforms. Here's a magical number that I pulled outta my ass, and you HAVE to accept it!

Not to mention, it's very sad for MK when the mythical sales is all it can boast about it. Engaging gameplay, content overload, fun gamemodes, great customization, massive tournaments? Nahhhh it's all about the SALES bro..... Well you can't really play with SALES in online, when the game's dead. Even on PS5, which supposedly is the biggest platform for MK, you can constantly see the same players being matched over and over again. And considering this is a 1v1 fighting game..... Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaah.

Anyways it also becomes less of an boast than what the morons think, considering that INDIE developers, without massive corporate backing and publishing, move millions. Then there's this Palworld game, that apparently had a 10k budget total......and had broken MILLIONS in just a day. A DAY.

And unlike the mythical MK sale numbers.... it's reflected in charts. Steam had 2+ million players at its peak.

MK1 problems/drama aside, I think a lot of people were way more cautious about purchasing MK1 because it was coming off of MK11's less than stellar reputation. MK11 was coasting off of MKX's success and for the most part good will among the MK community so MK11 selling gang busters back in 2019 wasn't really that surprising. Just like MKX coming off of MK9 success before it and so on. Most fake online concern trolls conveniently leave that part out. You're only as good as your last game and sells will reflect that.

While I can't speak for anyone else, I specifically was skeptical about ever seeing more post-MK3 / 3D era characters after MK11 (which significantly reduced the amount to only 2) and then the MK1 CGI trailer specifically solely consisted of MKII characters.
Later made a statement here that I'd buy the basic version of MK1 if we'd get more post-MK3 characters than in MKX (which was 5, not counting Tremor).
Game surprised the shit out of me with 7 of the post-MK3 ones on the main roster, Quan Chi via DLC and then kameos consisting of Frost, Shujinko, Sareena and Darrius....and now Mavado.

That said, this game also launched with the Halloween Fatality going for $10~$12 and cosmetic skins going for $10 each, and people are seemingly getting sick and tired (rightfully so) with all of the nickel-and-diming / live service shit practices that WB is behind.
Suicide Squad originally got its original release date delayed even further because the initial release of that game had a gross storefront and mtx filled menus which they got called out for and had to retract.
While people will easily buy an MK game with the majority of the MKII roster in it, at the same time this shows me that people may have also opened up their eyes and spoken with their wallets about not wanting to get fucked over financially for every single cosmetic.
I haven't bough a single goddamn thing for this game (post-launch), aside from Quan Chi and maybe Takeda when he releases in 2044.
At the end of the day, money talks and bullshit walks..........and key words like "live service," "micro-transactions" and "always online" (all of which MK1 has) is a HUGE turn-off to lots of people these days.

MS / Zenimax / Bethesda learned this lesson as well with the shitty Redfall (released by Arkane Austin, which used to be reputable)......Shit glitches aside for Redfall, they used Deathloop as the test and then jumped on the live-service / micro-transaction / looter-shooter / always online full out with Redfall and it backfired on them. And, YES, that was specifically the Publisher (Zenimax / Bethesda) pushing for all of these shitty practices.

Zaslav is a cancer to NRS, Rocksteady and all of the other devs under WB publishing.

It's best selling so well, it's such a trillion dollar franchise, that it's basically bottom of the barrel. When MU Online has more viewers, there's a problem. :ROFLMAO:

Well done to both NRS & WB. You deserve each other.
