MMM: Giant Bomb's Take on MK Annihilation

This week's Mortal Monday video was again pointed out by none other than <b>Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon</b> <a href="http://twitter.com/noobde/status/2701633010">via Twitter</a> and is another <b>This Ain't No Game (TANG)</b> feature from <a href="http://www.giantbomb.com">Giant Bomb</a>. This TANG is the follow up to the <a href="http://www.trmk.org/news/12567/mortal_movie_monday_giant_bomb_reviews_mk_the_movie.html">video review of the original Mortal Kombat movie</a> from a few months ago, this time it takes aim at the sequel <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119707/">Mortal Kombat: Annihilation</a>.

<a href="http://www.giantbomb.com">Giant Bomb's</a> Ryan Davis literally <a href="http://www.giantbomb.com/tang-mortal-kombat-annihilation/17-1048/">rips apart the "simply awful" Mortal Kombat: Annihilation</a>. He also points out some of the bizarre things that happen throughout the movie that don't make sense even to the fans watching the movie. They also put together an excellent montage of the horrible CGI effects though-out the movie. This video clip should definitely makes anyone laugh at it's clever criticism of this very terrible movie.

I feel sorry for all the "regular moviegoers" that go see video game films. There hasn't been one that has displayed any real crossover appeal.
 
Oh come now. The first MK film is one of the best VG films I've seen. And it's pretty much the only one. I just don't understand how they could have done so many things wrong with this film...

Everything the review said about cramming as many characters as possible in there is true. There were few plot reasons for their appearance, and I'm sort of OK with that. But considering the rich mythology the MK krew has krafted for their franchise it seems like sheer stupidity not to draw on it. Sure the film has the basic premise of MK3...but that's all it has.
 
My biggest problem with the film is the cheesy dialogue. The amount of characters doesn't bother me at all, but actually listening to the movie makes me want to tuck my chin and sprint into a brick wall to the tune "Angel of Death" by Slayer.

The quicker way to review the movie would have been recording the viewer taking a shit and flushing the toilet.
 
I do remember seeing an interview when this was on pay per view cinema here in the UK... The interview hyped it up and made me want to see it. I was excited and its taken years to squash that silence and see the movie for its worth(less) self. I'd like to know what went wrong between the movies?

It was as if they had a check list to do and didn't care how they did it.
 
Annihilation's a good movie...Not great. and definately not terrible. That video was cute, though I don't agree. blah blah plot holes, bad acting, cheesy effects...Now thats my kind of movie. :)
 
I didn't actually think all the CGI was that bad. Some of it was ridiculous, like the big giant monster that Jax ends up killing, but some of it was kind of cool to see, particularly the fire god. Besides, remember Reptile from the first movie? That looked ridiculous.
 
Annihilation was not a great movie by any means, but it was nice to see some more characters brought to the big screen. Though it seemed as if everyone's appearance was cut short, which was an obvious major let down and a real problem within the movie. The theme seemed to be: Introduce character > Random fight > Kill off character. Happened to Smoke, Cyrax, Baraka, and Mileena, which sucks because they have a pretty big following and deserved more attention than that of a throw away filler.
