MK Trilogy (N64 version)= Dissapointing

I rented the N64 version sometime in 1999 because my local Blockbuster didn't have the PS1/PSX version at the time. I still had fun with the game when I was 8 or 9.

Believe it or not, Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the N64 is the closest gameplay wise to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 of all the ports. I know a lot of people are going to look at me like I've got three heads for saying that, but let me explain why:

When MKT was in development, they handed off the PSX/PC version to Avalanche - where the N64 version was done "in house" by Williams (who also published it). When Avalanche ported the game, they took the easy way out converting the audio/video; which is why the 22khz music sounds slower and lower in pitch. But by taking this shortcut, they also ported a 53hz refresh rate game to 60hz incorrectly, which resulted in an increase of about 10fps that actually ends up making the gameplay faster.

So despite it's missing frames and synthesized music that pales in comparison, gameplay wise it's the most accurate version of the ports. There's also quite a few remnants of the arcade code in the N64 version as well, and a recent leak suggests that MKT for the Playstation may have actually been based off the UMK3 3DO code, which itself was never released and ironically seems based off the PSX MK3.

That's probably the best way I could explain what happened with Trilogy, and it's exactly as confusing as it sounds.

I have to agree with this. For several years, I always thought the PSX version was better by all accounts. Nowadays though, I'd much rather play the N64 version instead, because even though it doesn't have everything the PSX version does, IMHO it feels much more like a complete game.

I actually have both ports of Trilogy. There are pros and cons to both, obviously, but I still enjoy both. The only thing that irritates me about the PlayStation port is the fact that the screen goes black on the Treasures of Shao Kahn if you play this on PS2 or PS3 (which was the primary reason I still kept my PS1).

Playstation looks a little bit better if compared to N64,anyway both version are far alway for the perfection of the arcades.

The PlayStation had significantly better graphics overall but the Nintendo 64 had, thanks to cartridges, no loading times.

There's a pc version for mkt

there is? I didnt know that. Too bad they dont re-release it on steam. They've always done MK3 remasters over various consoles but never Trilogy for some reason.

And I almost forgot that I made this thread haha. Yeah N64 version is dumbded down, but it doesnt take an hour to load unlike the PS1 version. But back then I didnt care about loading screens. Also the red sky outside the window in the Deadpool stage always throws me off on N64, I dont like it.

MKT on N64 was my childhood.

Now that I've played the Playstation port, I feel I can compare them. Its actually real simple, you have an awesome variety of characters in the playstation version including boss characters and different versions of characters.

But I prefer the N64 version even though it has slightly less characters, it runs like a champ whereas the Playstation port feels like a glitchy mess with awful load times. N64 port, quality over quantity.

It was never specified what kind of building is Dead Pool located in, and where is it located in Outworld. In MKSM it is accessible via portals only. In MK9 it was hinted to be part of some prisons maybe?

The red sky on the Dead Pool stage was originally present on the SNES port of MK2. One of the things I love about that particular port of the game.
