Marketing?

Does anyone else feel that the game isn't being promoted properly? I'm not asking for a character reveal every 2 weeks, but the game is coming out in 3 months, we still haven't seen a gameplay trailer or footage of The Joker and Green Lantern. Bane and Lex Luthor were revealed in a magazine I've never heard of before and since when do people still read magazines? What's the point of taking pre-orders for the game now if you cannot guarantee me that some of my favorite characters will make it? How often have we seen Wonder Woman in action?

Wow that is a good topic.
Your absolutely right man, no tv commercials or internet commercials or ads.

They better hype this game up son

I think the are waiting on the web series before the go full scale with the ads

Isn't the Legacy web-series supposed to be out in the Summer, though?
Besides, the web-series (Legacy season 2) is an MK web-series, not a DC web-series.
Sounds counter-productive, IMO.

1.) The web series is done filming and it's Youtube not a blockbuster. It can be done by April.

2.) Mortal kombat is NRS // Warner Bros -- Injustice is NRS // DC // Warner bros.

People are hyped for this game because of the familiarity with NRS and MK so why not add bits of comercials in the webisode to the fans that like MK? Counter productive? I think not. Its called focusing in on your market - that's why they did comicon and evo (two different groups, two different needs) DC fans are getting a whole new Comic series we MK fans should at least get the web series.

I'm pretty sure that the MAJORITY of people picking up Injustice ins't because of MK.
It's because they love superheroes.
If you don't know who Batman, Superman, The Flash, Catwoman, and The Joker are, then you've really been living under a rock for 60 years.
MK fans playing a DC comics based game makes up a small portion of the market.
More people love / have familiarity with superheroes than they do with MK.
If anything, linking up Injustice with a comic book event like ComicCon makes more sense than linking it up with an MK web-series.

Let's think about this for a second.... super hero fans will pick up injustice for a collection and not play it at all or play a little and move on to the next deal. MK fans are gamers who will squeeze as much life out of the game as possible (We still play the classics) I think (know) you are wrong about the MK fanbase vs the DC fanbase. Sure DC fans are broken down into generation and parrallel worlds since they have been around for so long but how many of them would enjoy the NRS twist? Let's be honest, by DC fans you mean Batman fans. Your facts are a bit off on this but it's okay because you are not wrong either. Initial sales = DC fans // Longevity of the game and overall success goes to MK fans.

Longevity of the game and overall success goes to MK fans and MvC fans and SF as well.

Remember.
This game, supposedly, plays more like MvC and SF according to how the button lay-out is, including things like holding the back button to block.
If anything, my facts are pretty damn right.
DC fans and FIGHTING GAME fans, in general (who are also DC Comics fans) will be the majority of fans playing the game while MK fans will be a minority.

No, it plays like Injustice. A 2.5 D fighter with 3d normals and 2d specials. Injustice is built without a launcher button, arial combat, multi meter and tripple team tag, how is this anything like Marvel? Oh the 3 buttom special rig and back to block, I get it now  . Its not even on the same combo system as Marvel.... Strings are very different from linking.

That, and Launcher button = Environmental button in Injustice. ;)

Even though the combo system isn't the exact same, I'm sure that the gameplay style will be closer matched to MvC and SF than MK, bringing more of those fans to the game over a longer period of time.
MK fans will immediately flock to it because it's from NRS, and they want to support NRS, but if the game ends up playing more like MvC or SF, then those will probably be the majority of the fans sustaining the game in the long run.

Don't get me wrong, it's a smart move on the part of NRS.
Capture the MK fans with MK9 at tournaments.
Capture the MvC / SF fans with Injustice at tournaments.
Have a HUGE % of the fighting game market with both games simultaneously going to tournaments.
GENIUS!!!!

One thing for sure, Injustice will have a bigger scene in my town than MK, I was told by SF players that they were going to give this game a try, cause there's no block button and all the members of my MK crew will play it too.

Btw, where are the obscure characters that were promised? I'll be really disappointed if the roster ends up being the same as MK VS DC with just a few more.

No - Can't combo off it and changes the entire stage = not the same

SF/MvC fans are so damn loyal that they keep buying the same game from capcom lol

*Capcom voice*

"Super Duper Ultimate You Got To Have It Street Fighter IV Gigantic Arcade Edition (With 2 NEW Fighters!!!)"

As for the touraments - I hope the MK players support both but who knows if this is MK9's last Evo run before MK10 talk starts buzzing around the media.

@C-Sword - the obscure characters are in the story mode as uplayable characters lol

I doubt it will be MK9's last EVO run.
MK hasn't gotten this much praise from the FG tournament community since UMK3.
MK9 still has a lot of stuff to be discovered as far as the tourney scene goes, and even with MK10 coming out, Ed Boon hinted at MK10 coming out on next-gen consoles.

As far as SF fans go - Give them a chance.
Who knows?
Injustice may just be their cup of tea, and give them a bit of change.
As much as there are Marvel fans who play MvC, I'm sure a lot of those fans are also DC fans who'd love to get their hands on a DC fighting game.

Funny thing you mentioned those updates by Capcom, can you really blame them for giving the fans what they want? I've recently seen a petition put together by some fans, asking for another updated version of UMVC3, they were willing to pay again for a few more characters and gameplay tweeks.

*Facepalms* While they are at it, they should put in a line for a new Darkstalkers game.... This "If the hd version sells on psn/marketplace" is crap.

I feel there isn't as much information floating around as there was for mk9 at this point. They should have more videos out in the air ways imo. I want to see more fights with the already revealed characters .

It's marketing is just fine with me. MK had a similar approach in 2011. Trickle out info and footage a couple times a month leading up the the game, and when you get closer, like in the last month, kick it into high gear. People complained about MK's marketing, yet it did just fine in sales. When it came game time, there were ads on T.V., ads all over gaming websites, in magazines, even billboards in big cities. I see it going just the same for this game.

I personally love that strategy better. Not revealing everything until closer to the game also helps keep it feeling far more fresh when it actually comes out, and excitement and anticipation at it's peak. Back with the likes of MK:DA-MKvsDC, we already had seen TONS of gameplay footage, all the characters...2 months in advance. It just felt like "seen it all already" weeks before the game came out. Whereas with this and MK(2011), it actually keeps you guessing and speculating(which is most of the fun for a lot of us) all the way up 'til release.

So yeah, in my opinion, the marketing is excellent. I know once mid-late March rolls around, this game will have ads all over the place, and word will spread as if most comic book fans and fighting game fans don't already know if it's existence.

They know what they are doing. They are taking a more paced out approach. As I said, MK(2011) had the same approach, and people were complaining about the marketing for it as well, and yet it's sales and reception was superb.

@Araknyd: The game will play nothing, and I repeat, nothing like SF or MvC. Its faster paced than SFIV and slower paced than MvC. Injustice IS MK9. Devs have even said it. As Riko said its 3d strings with 2d specials and movement. It still uses the MK juggle system.

As for the topic at hand, I think this is being marketed poorly. Think back to the Green Lantern reveal. It seems to me like the only reason we got a tacked on screenshot of the two was because they forgot the box art was coming out.

Neither Joker nor Lantern were in action. Just standing there.

What in the hell happened to Mortal Mondays and Fatality Fridays?! Metropolis Mondays and Finger Bang Fridays, I don't know just make it happen damnit.

No Vignettes, no MKasts, no gameplay trailers outside of reveals. I want the team to sit down, show us concept art THAT WE DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR BY ORDERING A SPECIAL EDITION and tell us what ideas they had that they scrapped, their feelings on the game, environments and what they have in store for the short future before launch.

I don't even know what in the fluff I preordered
