Let's talk Rain

Hey guys let's stay on topic please. Also no one's mentioned gameplay yet? And if you don't want him included, please provide reasons why. Let's try for a good thread

I was surprised at how much they developed Rain in MK:A. His special moves were really cool. I think he should keep some of the water-based attacks along with the roundhouse, but drop the lightning bolt. Let Nightwolf have that one, it fits him better. I'm also liking the direction they were going with his costume. He shouldn't be too ninja-esque as he's a prince. As far as I'm concerned, they can only improve on Rain. He's almost like a blank slate.

Maybe he's a ninja prince...

As long as they don't stray too far from the original purple ninja idea, I'll be fine. What they did in Armageddon was great.

And I agree. The lightning bolt needs to go.

MK 3/ Trilogy Rain (game-play wise) was OK but never appealed to me personally.
MK: A Rain (game-play wise) I just flat out didn't like.
(To put it in perspective: There was a lot of stuff in MK:A, in general, that I didn't like such as "Air-Kombat")

That being said though, Seeing as how NetherRealm is taking their time in developing the characters this time around, I'm willing to give him another shot (along with Stryker and Sheeva) in MK 9.

I just don't know how he'll fit into the MK 9 story, this time around, since things might be different.

i think rain is really cool, and i liked his mka prince like costume better than the ninja one. i think is netherrealm studios will put him in the new game they will make him very cool, and i hope i will see him in the future.

He was not in deception at all bro, he wasnt in any game past UMK3 for consoles until Armageddon came out.

He was in MKT, which came out after UMK3.

If they can make play well, go for it. I don't see him being one of the original 26, tho.

I dont consider MKT canon though for some reason, i just think of it as a compilation game... You can say that about armageddon, but at least there was a story behind it.

But yeah i agree, hes one of those characters i wouldnt care for him being in the game or not. Cool, hes a ninja at all, but IMO, hes too damn wimpy and whiney.

I think Rain does have an interesting past which could be explored a bit more. I think his inclusion, while not a major part of the game story line plays a important role in the realm of Edenia's past. I mean MK's unique multiple realm plot is a big part of the mythos. And if he is not included, there would only be two representatives of the that realm if Sindel is indeed in the game. However, I don't like the fact that his appearance was just another ninja with a different color. I think only Scorpion, Subzero, Reptile, and Human Smoke (if included) should be ninjas.
Earthrealm, Outworld, Edenia, and Earthrealm were all intregal parts of setting the tone of the first three games. Antother inhabitant of the Netherrealm would be cool too. Hence, Quan Chi my favorite villain in the series.

Bring Rain. He had some creative moves and was looking awesome in both games that he was in. I beleive that Rain should have the lightning. Nightwolf stole in MKD

Enh. You were talking about him being playable in Deception and then switched to the storyline stuff. I don't pay much attention to the story, so I focused on the playable part.

Sooo.... nevermind.

LOL my bad if i confused you brother, you were right, i was talking about playability :P

I think a lot of people are throwing him into a category so if he were in the game he would be exactly like in UMK3 or armageddon as if that was the only choice,
if you thought he was wimpy and whiney in the other games dont dont assume he 'has' to be if he were in MK9 coz everything can change for the better which is the whole idea.
all you need to consider is that he is a ninja wih lightning like abilitys, does that not sound awesome?
all the team need to do is take that ninja with lightning ability idea and start it from fresh and youll have a totally awesome charactor.

rains one of those charactors that just needs a complete revamp the fact he was just a pallet swap ninja is a bonus because now the MKteam can totally revamp him from fresh without upsetting anyone,, the fact he does the lightnng thing a bit like raiden is awesome and ties into the game nicely, all it takes is a revamp and he could go from being one of the most least favoured charactors in the game to the most liked for some people,

not to mention an awesome tag partner for raiden, imagine the lightning moves they could do! yeeehaa!
oh and a mazzave LOL to who called his roundhouse a 'take a trip around the globe kick' hahahaha

Personally, while I thought his MK:A design was clever, I felt it was too far removed from the simple palette swap. I mean look what they've done to make the other ninjas unique, and still mostly retain their classic look. Like I already said, a well thought out hybrid works best for me. As for moves, I think he's definitely got what it takes for great gameplay. I feel MK:A kind of poisoned his popularity due to being an overall clunky game, reflecting badly on a character with a lot of potential. I like that he's an elemental ninja as well, and has an interesting backstory that could be improved in this iteration to make for a stronger personality. Back to gameplay, I particularly loved his 'waterball' move that allowed total control of your opponent while they're immobilized in mid air. He was the only character able to do this, and just one of many things that MK9 could make really special. But of course, feel free to disagree.

IMO, I think they brought the classic look back already with his alternate costume in armageddon.

I would like to see Rain in the new game i hope he is in it or if not then at let him have a cameo appearance in the story line

I've always been a huge fan of MK's ninja elite. For me, Rain isn't up there with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but still an interesting character. I liked how they fleshed him out a little more in Armageddon, and I actually do hope he returns in MK 2011. It would be great to see him developed a little more.
