Your right the story is very convoluted and I also wouldn't be surprised if they tried to make the older one survive. I have read a lot of other comments though and I'm glad to see that there is a good majority who want younger Subz to stay. I think Boon needs to read boards like these and realize that if they turn the younger Sub-Zero into a cyborg it could blow up in their face.
If we want to talk about stories though let's say this. Raiden realizes that Younger Sub has been a huge help to him over the years so when Sektor tries to attack Sub-Zero and Smoke Raiden comes in to help stop them. Thus letting Sub-Zero and Smoke survive. Neither are turned into cyborgs. Then to get revenge on Raiden Sektor sets his sights on one of the earthrealm warriors Jax. That would be awesome and Jax would finally become a cyborg. It's not exactly the best story but
Then in the next game have both Sub-Zeros face off with younger Sub-Zero deciding that his older brother is evil and has to be stopped. So then they face each other to find out who will remain Sub-Zero and have the younger end up winner with the older one reprising his role as Noob.
Anyway just glad to see that you are a fan of younger Sub-Zero and let's hope he stays in the game and doesn't end up one of those stupid cyborgs. I'm fine with Sektor and Cyrax but let's stop at that.

I think there's one big thing we're getting away from here. The fact that older or younger its still the same character. Its not like they are night and day or anything lol. One is shooting ice out of his hand... the other? Shooting ice out of his hand. I mean they both slide.. wear blue.. same name.. same clan... same father... lol does it really matter?

I see what you mean here they are the same character and if you don't care about the story part of the game and really are just a casual gamer it would be fine which ever Sub-Zero they had survive.
However we are talking about deep storyline here and the two Sub-Zeros may share the same name but personality wise they are daylight and dark. The original was a cold heartless evil killer with really no remorse for anyone. The younger brother however is more dependable and even though he is an assassin he only kills for the better of the world, he is also commonly seen helping out the earthrealm warriors. That is something the original never did. They share the same name and moves, but storywise these two are completely different characters. Personally I'm just stating my opinion that if they decide to go with the horrible route that is turning younger Subz into a cyborg it would almost effect my gameplay because I am such a huge fan of the character. I guess what I'm saying is I don't want to play as the old Sub-Zero because he essentially tried to kill my favorite character in the past games. Why would I play as someone trying to kill my favorite character? I'm sure I'm not the only one on earth who feels like this too.
Some people are very loyal to a character whether fictional or not and if you decide to go back in the past and change something that drastically you must be careful about doing it or you could see a backlash from fans. That's why I'm not sure I'm a fan of them re-writing the story. I would almost rather them had done a remake or something until they though of something for Armageddon. I'm fine with changing small things in a characters development, but to do something like changing the character completely is something I don't agree with.

Don't know how this turned into another Sub-Zero thread but as long as it has I have to comment on it. I am a fan of the older Sub-Zero and feel that he is just as relevant as his goodie two shoes baby bro. With out old Subby being such a bad ass the new Sub-Zero wouldn't have a story. He would just be a another Jax fighting for Earth and the side of good. Now don't take that the wrong way new or old Sub-Zero is better than Jax but if Sub-Zero the Elder wasn't an awesome bad guy then young Sub-Zero's storyline would be kind of flat and he wouldn't be an awesome good guy. I hope that the do kill the OG Sub just so we will have Noob but him being a dominant character is not a bad thing by a long shot. If they didn't kill him then young Sub-Zero wouldn't even be named Sub-Zero. But then again maybe I just bitter that there are no ninjas in MK 3. I like my Lin Kuei evil and my ninjas masked.
Now that I'm done with my rant I just want to apologize to Kurtis Stryker. I swear I'm not trying to pick on you man it just that I'm old and you seem to like the new games more so ever time I strongly disagree with some one it seems to be you.

I agree with you that the original Sub-Zero should still die. I think Noob has became a classic character and that they are even teasin him not existing irritates me. I have thought that Noob could be fitting for a boss for a long time and if he never exists that won't happen.
I have to disagree that the Sub-Zero character of the original is as important though. You are right without him the younger one wouldn't exist, but the younger one has more of a story now as Sub-Zero. I also don't think the younger would be just another Earth realm fighter. Even though he strays toward helping the good guys he is mostly on his own. I like that character trait. I like that he is essentially a loner but if push came to shove he would side with the good guys.
What I am basically saying is that the original Sub-Zero is important to me so that he becomes Noob, but if there had to be one definitive Sub-Zero I would want it to be the younger one. They just took the ball and ran with it on his character and to go back on it now would be crushing.

Noob Saibot is a strong character with a lot going for him. Part of his greatness is that he was once the original Sub-Zero. Before MKD (much like Ermac) he was just a faceless secret character with a silly name. They've flushed out his personality in recent games and I've really grown to like him. I already liked the original Sub-Zero from his adventures in MKM as well. It's not fair to say classic Sub didn't have any compassion, he clearly does. He was just more ruthless is all, didn't take any crap and got the job done.
The younger Sub-Zero took his brother's legacy and made it his own, and Noob Saibot made himself a new name with new ambitions. Unless old Sub embraces his darkness from MKM and becomes Noob he's just not as interesting...

I really like the sub to noob storyline. I think it fits perfect seeing as how sub died in the first game and noob appeared in the second.
Sub-Zero is one of those characters that won't be touched drastically. He's on the same pedistal as Scorpion, and Raiden. People would riot if they altered them to something that isn't them.
Did anyone care when Johnny Cage died?

Not that I really remember... I was happy for the game when I saw Liu Kang get his neck snapped.
I was down right pissed in MK3 when Scorpion and Raiden weren't there. UMK3 made up for it a little with Scorpion coming back.
We have yet to see a game without a Sub-Zero. Better never happen.

Just a curious possible thought!
In the Game debut trailer we learn that in Shao Kahns arena, there is Kira & Li Mei chained up and a third girl at Shao Kahns Throne. Now like i said its just a thought, but do you think that that particular scene might be from the story mode and could possibly be Kitana since the events that we KNOW NOW might not happen. So maybe Shao Kahn has a Prince Leia fetish and chained Kitana up like Jabba did...LOL!? OR- S.Kahn can just have a slave girl by his side!

I think that would be awesome and since they want to change things so bad that could definitely be a way to get old Sub-Zero to turn into Noob. I think he should survive being killed by Scorpion but be beaten to near death and in order to gain powers he's never had he accepts becoming Noob.That would just take his character to a whole new level. I mean he was turned into Noob by force last time, but for him to accept becoming Noob to gain new power would just be awesome.
Also it would let Younger Sub-Zero survive. Younger Sub-Zero is my favorite character of all time and I don't want him to be turned into anything but Sub-Zero. If they want Smoke to remain human they just need to make Raiden realize that younger Sub-Zero is a huge asset to him so in order to gain a new ally in Smoke he steps in and helps stop Smoke from becoming a cyborg, thus neither of them become cyborgs. Even though I really don't know where Smokes story would go if he didn't become a cyborg really. I mean what is he going to do?

I think that could be a good change for the story as well and show how truly evil the original Sub-Zero is. He openly becomes Noob in order to obtain power plus it would let young Sub-Zero survive which would be awesome because the younger Sub-Zero is and always has been my favorite character.

Boon hinted that some characters that weren't before might become cybernetic. And what's with all this talk that the original Sub-Zero is evil? He's not even "bad" by most standards. He's a Lin Kuei that steals, stalks, and kills for money. But he's shown to be honorable and takes responsibility for his actions. Hell, in MKM it's blatantly stated that he's teetering on the edge between good and evil.
The two Subs are brothers and bear many similar traits. For all intents and purposes they're the same character until MK3 when Sub-Zero disagrees with the Lin Kuei's politics and even then he doesn't turn goodie-two-shoes until after MK4 really.
Sub-Zero isn't such a great guy. None of the MK kombatants are. They're violent, sadistic individuals that fight brutally.
