Is having rain In the game that Important?

Kabal's x-ray pretty much shows Kabal going from one side of the screen to another immediately, a bit like what Rain's kick would do. I don't think you can ask for "sense" in a MK game anyway...

He may run in circles, but how do you make a kicked guy fly away in circles?

I found this on the MK official site, you can see rain and reptile using MKA outfits in the background.

I always imagined Kabal running behind the camera =/

As for Rain, I don't care either way. I wouldn't have minded if Quan Chi didn't make it, along with a couple of other character who really didn't impact the story. Rain is just another ninja to me. He's never felt like a distinguished character story-wise, kind of like Jade, Stryker, and Nightwolf (in my opinion, I never payed much attention to them). I'm not against any of them, just indifferent. So, Rain being in or not doesn't bother me. However, if they made him more unique, both gameplay and story-wise, I'd love to see him join the roster.

finally! I saw on mk wikia that Reiko, Kano, Rain, Goro and Baraka could be seen in statues in Shang Tsung's gardens but never saw the Rain statue in a gameplay video the mk team released. thanks for that :D

btw I loved Rain's roundhouse kick too, totally wondering how it'll look in the new game if they put it in. I'm also hoping for water based powers as well like he did in armageddon but looking better.. and the lightning fatality <3 :P

I never loved him, but he had some potential with the upgraded back story he received in Armageddon. If they give his moves a tune up, expand a bit more on the back story, and give him an interesting look (his retro ninja look can be an Alternate Costume if people are really wanting it) I'd be all for his inclusion. Hell, if they do all that I'd prolly give him a spin and see if I like how he plays. More characters gives the fights more diversity and I know when I'm playing with a bunch of friends and roommates, the more the better.

This would be a cool MK9 design for Rain

I actually love Rain. I am actually more partial to the palette swappers (ninja/female ninja/cyborgs) than the other characters. The only other characters I even really care about in any capacity are Sonya, Kung Lao, and to a lesser extent Stryker. This is probably why I really liked UMK3. Rain would be great but I am 99.99% sure he will be DLC this summer anyway, so no worries people.

Quan Chi did impact the story. He was just behind the scenes during MK3 (Don't know why they made him participate in MK1 and MK2 though). This time around, he just had a bigger role.

The whole Quan Chi-thing was way too forced. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too forced. He showed up too much in the story mode. MK Team clearly loves Quan Chi, but he should have been DLC considering no matter how important he was, he just doesn't belong to MK1-UMK3 games, or he and Rain should have been both in the game, there was really no reason to exclude Rain.

I think Rain needs to look like a ninja again not an arabian dancer.
I agree i didn't like the look of arabian ninja but after i saw what they did to the most characters in MK9 (ex smoke 2nd costume) i am sure they will make him great.
Back to the topic he is important to me because Ninja characters and Raiden are the main franchise of the game. I thought after Ed Boon twitter msgs he would release him a week after the game, anyway i believe they should had Rain playable in the game and Sheeva or Quan chi as a boss character or dlc at least since Baraka was in MKvsDC i would swap him with Rain in mk9.

I agree to some extent. I'm not bothered that he's in the game, but it did seems too forced considering he is only mentioned in UMK3 and MKT. He and Shinnock that is. My question is why was he in the MK1 and MK2 part of the story? Even if he wasn't a playable character, he would've still been a background character, as shown in MK vs. DC.

I agree. A few cameos would have been cool... But they definitely overdid it with him.

Just because Quan Chi wasnt in the original games doesnt mean he couldnt have been around during that time period. They wanted to make him part of the original time line and it worked. I loved his inclusion in the story
