I fail to see how it is "the stupidest shit ever"
it is THEIR tourny, it is their promotion.. not to mention no one will even have their arcade stick by then.. so everyone is on an even field

You make absolutely no sense. It will not be an even field for anyone that isn't used to playing on this setup. The MK layout and parts are not exclusive to this PDP stick. People have been playing MK on arcade setups and buildling/buying custom MK sticks since the arcade days. People have been playing on these parts and layouts forever, so no it will not be an even playing field for those who haven't.
My main issue with this isn't that I'm being forced to use an arcade stick, or even one with the MK layout. I've had a custom MK stick since I got back into MK when UMK3 / MKII came out on 360 and PS3. I also have a Art's Hobbies panel with the original MK layout for my MadCatz TE stick, and the new MadcCatz MK panel also. My problem is that they're forcing me to go back to using Happ parts. I've been using Sanwa for 10+ years and it's not as easy switching as you would think. I've tried using a friend's MAS stick and it wasn't pretty.
Also, the text on the PDP site irritates me. "If you do not have your Mortal Kombat Fight Stick already, now would probably be a good time to get one and start practicing to get familiar with the controls and layout." Yeah, I'm not going to forced into giving PDP $150 for a stick I'll never use after that weekend. Anyway, I was about to book my flight before I noticed this. Not so sure I'm going to attend anymore unless they decide to let us use our own sticks.There are ton of other tournaments coming up. I'll probably hit up Revelations instead even though they aren't running MK this time.
And for the pad users thinking they're just going to magically adapt to the stick for that weekend... I've seen pad players switch over to stick. Two of the best (S)SFIV players in our scene started on pad and ended up switching to stick. It isn't something that happens fast. These guys blew complete ass for about 4 weeks until they started getting to the point where the stick was no longer an execution barrier for them. And that is a shit ton of game time in that 4 weeks to accomplish that.. If you're still hell bent on attending I'd cave and get a MK layout stick with Happ parts asap. PDP, custom, or whatever. If you just plan on showing up and adapting you're in for a rude awakening. Remember I warned you
Edit: Yup, I know it is PDP's tournament and they can run it how they want. This is going to hurt attendance though and actually makes me not want to support their products in the future. Whatever they think is going to market themselves better and bring in the money though.

Pretty much. They should let people use their own sticks, and then have a ton of demo stations set up where you can try the new PDP stick. If the stick is quality it will sell itself when people try it. Telling people they can't use their own sticks / controllers they are used to is just going to piss everyone off and hurt their attendance. People are also going to come away with a bad impression of the stick when they aren't hitting shit they would on their own stick. Just bad marketing all around.
Hell, I'm a stick junky. There was a huge chance I would have left vegas having purchased their stick just to have one. Now I'm questioning if I even want to go at all.

First off, I misread it as April 14-15th, when in fact it is may..my error. THAT'S what I was referring to when "it would be a even field" my error.
if your biggest complaint is that you are "forced" to use different parts I would hate to see how you would react to say, sitting down if you're used to standing, a small TV versus playing on a large screen, or any other thing that is out of your comfort zone.
The very simple fact remains that if you don't like it.. don't go. I'm sure others might not be to keen on it but I bet they don't reduce their skill down to the individual parts on their custom sticks...

hey guys and girls, was wondering whos going?! I just enrolled, very excited. its 30 bucks to register and you have to have a place to stay. got a room at stratosphere for 90 bucks. Very excited and very nervous. I won an MK2 tournament with Mileena in so cal years ago but that was nothing compared to this. hope to here from some of you!!! 10,000 cash first prize!!
