Meh, 3D is just as good as 2D I say. It just depends on the developer and the developer's intentions. Preference is always a factor, but I'm a gamer and I play games. All sorts. Except sports and racing, which I believe are better done you know...IN REAL LIFE.
But that's not to say I don't like to see a good balance of 2D and 3D gametypes coming out. I like God of War and Devil May Cry as much as or more than Streets of Rage, Castle Crashers, Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons Arcade game, etc. Same way I like Soul Calibur almost as well as the 2D MKs. For me it's not about 2D or 3D just whether the game is fun and engaging or not.
I'm also quite glad that 2D games are making a comeback. As are other old-school gameplay styles. Point and Click adventures have been having a comeback lately thanks to titles like Sam & Max, the Strongbad game, and the soon-released A Vampyre Story (from the folks that brought you Monkey Island). I've also seen 2D Castlevanias on the DS, New Super Mario Bros., Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando Re-Armed, and Megaman 9 (which I REALLY wish were Megaman X9).
Bottom line, 2D >/> 3D and 3D >/> 2D. We should all love them equally and developers should notice that there is still a good sized market for 2D gameplay.
