BANALITY
scenario: lets say that your opponent chooses Sub zero (A) and you always choose scorpion (B) against Sub zero (A) for whatever reason. But your scorpion (B) is not so good against their sub zero (B). but your Kotal Kahn is a good match for both their sub zero (A) and (B) but not as good as your scorpion (B) when it comes to fighting sub zero (A)
Now imagine that all you know is that your opponent has chosen sub zero but you dont know what version (A) (B) or (C)
so now you have to think should i choose my scorpion (B) just incase they have chosen Sub zero (A) but its a risk because they might of chosen Sub zero (B) and remember your scorp (B) vs Subz (B) is not so good, so then you think well maybe i should choose kotal Kahn since hes good against both subz (A) and (B) but only just.
see what im saying if you didnt know what fighting style your opponent chose you would have to think more about the match up possibilities rather than always playing safe and choosing the same version against a particular version
i think if done this way the whole various fighting styles thing would of had more point to it.
i would of preferred it if each character had only one costume for all fighting styles. for example scorpion would always have the swords on his back but only uses them if you pick that particular fighting style that enables swords.
they could of had it so that the other player can only see what character you have selected but cant see what fighting style you have chosen nor would i put their fighting style on the top screen next to their name. so when the match starts the other player wont know what to expect.
the fact that the alt costumes gives away what fighting style you have chose seems to defeat the purpose imo, it would be better if it was kept hidden. i know the idea that theyre going for is that you can chose different versions coz maybe version A of a character is a better match up against version B of the the other character but isnt that like going right back to square one? where people will most Likely always pick Version A against to fight against version B.
im probably the only one that would prefer the fighting styles hidden but im interested in what people think
