How to beat Shao Kahn (some story mode spoilers included)

To a regular player Shao Kahn is quite a challenge, I would say the hardest to fight in the game. Lui Kang or Raiden its a little harder, Raiden I'm still having trouble with, once he touches me he does nonstop combos and I can't get time to do anything, and he completely kills me. He goes through blocks,you can't interupt him, he goes through your attacks, and spams nonstop. To top it off he does a lot more damage then you, and his super is... Retarded, it does so much damage.
 
Just beat story mode.

This fight was pretty easy with the strategy I used.

Keep your distance and when he begins the animation for one of his weapon throws, teleport behind him and instantly do the torpedo move. Pretty much repeat this and also use your X-ray when you can.

That's exactly what I just did! Worked like a charm...took me a few tries to discover that strategy.

I joined this forum just to state my frustration.

that's what I've been doing for a day and a half, and I'm not having the success some of you guys are. I'm playing on medium, and free uppercuts are hardly ever free. they seem to be a bit arbitrary, as at times I seem to teleport just out of uppercut range and I'll whiff, or
when he throws a hammer, I can get behind him and punish with an uppercut or flying attack just fine, but he'll EX (I come from SF4, so I'm not sure what the MK term in) every time I teleport behind him when he throws a spear. whenever I try to keep distance while he throws spears, he gets into range with his dashing shoulder attack, which he always seems to keep me juggled in the air with his hammer attacks.

what frustrates me, is how he operates with infinite meter, so he can EX all day. I feel he's even cheaper than regular SF4's Seth was.

when youre kang...I seriously can not beat this mother ****er. Ive seriously lost 20 times and almost broke my ****ing controller. how the **** do you beat that overpowered piece of shit spammer

leave a distent betewen u and him than duck his trowing hammer then use his bicicle kick then jump over to the other side when he gets back up and repeat

During the events of MK2 or MK3? I still didn't finish the story mode, but if you're referring to MK2, here's what I did:

1) Wait for Shoa Khan to start an attack
2) Avoid it and quickly dash toward him
3) Hit him with the short combo that ends with a kick knocking you're opponent down ... I think the inputs where /\ [] X (PS3)
4) As soon as he falls, walk up to him, and as soon as he gets up and attacks (75% of the time he'll attack you with his hammer), jump behind him and use the same combo
5) Repeat 3-4 whenever he does the hammer moves ... Repeat 1-4 if he dashes away

You don't need special moves, and you can use the X-Ray whenever he taunts you, or after you jump over his hammer throw.

Very simple tactic, and 100% guaranteed ... I did it on expert, and I seriously think Liu Kangs moves are slow and weak (i.e I suck playing as him :p)

Liu Kangs battle is WAY harder than the other one. It took me a good 10 tries to beat the Liu Kang one... beat the other one on the first try. Teleport, Uppercut, Teleport, Uppercut, Teleport, Uppercut etc..

On the Lui Kang battle though, once your learn his pop-ups, it instantly becomes trivial. As for with Raiden, Heavenly combo+Shocker+Uppercut. Rinse and repeat.

Thanks ill try it. My method was almost the same. I stuck with short combos and shit but he still would just rape me with his x ray or spam his dash thing to death. Plus I suck balls with liu kang
 
For me, i just hold on block until he does one of his shoulder rush moves, then i go for a quick combo and hold block again, and repeat. The only moves you have to watch out for is the hammer sweep and when he throws his hammer and of course his x-ray. Other than that you'll be fine.
 
with kang i just get at max distance and launch flying kicks and jump away. usually wait for him to say you suck or whatever he says. takes a while but i only got hit once by one of those unblockable hammers. cheap strat for a cheap boss
 
Strangely enough, Raiden is the only character (so far) that I can beat Shao-Khan with out spamming like a noob. I use the combo (sorry, I only know it on the ps3) square, triangle, square, triangle, dash move thing. Teleport to dodge when needed. X, X, dash thing. Throw in a few lightning bolts and x-ray. Maybe and uppercut or two and that's it. Keeping real close seemed to help me for some weird reason?

Ok ummm seriously the story mode is like 4 hours long, im wondering if this comment was meant as sarcasim. I didnt have time to sit down and play it straight through, and yes...I am still trying to beat Shao Khan with Raiden, Liu Kang was hard enough since I dont play with either character.
As far as strategy goes, I tried what I did with Liu Kang which was stay away and hit him with high fireballs and then dragon kick him from across the screen when he taunted. But alas Raiden's lighting projectile is not working as good, so im off to try teleport, uppercut, teleport, uppercut, back away , superman punch, teleport, superman punch. Here's to hoping.
