How might the dead return for MKX

Kitana, Kung Lao, Jade, Jax Briggs, Smoke, Kabal, Stryker, Cyber Sub-Zero, Nightwolf, and Sindel where under Quan Chi's control in the story mode. So it seems like Shang Tsung was nowhere to seen. Maybe after Sindel died, he was free from Sindel's body and he return somewhere in Out World.

Alot of ways this can be done that being said it would feel like such a hell of a cop out on nrs part if everyone killed off were brought back to be playable

While it was stated by Steve Barron himself alot of the Roster was killed in MK9. I still have my doubts that some of them just died because some of Sindels attack were weak! Lets review Shall we:
1. Kabal- Kicked and had breathing device stomped on. (Questionable death but i can see if unattended how he could die, Kano said his lungs were, "Yeesh")
2. Stryker- Looked more like a broken nose, but maybe she hit him right spot and did the whole break your nose and kill you thing (Questionable)
3. Cyber Sub Zero- 3 Strikes and he was out. Some type of electrical malfunction...i thought he was suppose to be Advanced High Tech (Questionable)
3. Jax- Heel pierced throat (I can buy that)
4. Smoke-n Kick to the balls (Ouch), neck broken. (Questionable IMO-he is an enera, a creature of mist/vapor.)
5. Jade- Stomach ripped out (I buy it)
6. Kitana- Life force was being taken. eventually died from wounds and not enough life force lol (I buy it)
7. Nightwolf- Sacrificed himself to kill Sindel. (Damn Shame but i buy it)
*interesting note though- Nightwolf was the only person not to be effect by Sindels scream when she entered the fight!*

They're dead. They showed up at the end in the Netherrealm with Quan Chi. The only one I can see coming back from the dead is Smoke as he is a demon and was already killed once before in the past. The rest... Well... They are just basic bit****. If Nightwolf ever comes back I will be so pissed off. His sacrifice was the one great thing he has ever done, imo. Lets not take that away from him by cheapening the whole thing.

Also, one of the developers mentioned in an interview that the massacre was done to help clean up the number of combatants they have, giving them room to bring in new characters and such. Granted, that wont stop them from bringing back whoever they want to use in the future, but still. It was done with the purpose of lowering the number of combatants.

Scorpion has always been "dead". Never stopped him from showing up and kicking some a**.

That is an entirely different thing, though. Scorpion was unique in that he is the undead. If they keep bringing characters back, he's really not that special anymore as death means nothing in the series.

Fighting games for me atleast are more about gameplay and story comes very very high but still next to it. Characters with unique fighting style cant be just thrown out. Kabal's fighting is unique to him & Mavado cant fight like him, Same for Kung Lao and the others. They just wanted to have a fusion of Sonya & Kano so they made Kira. But you Cassie has hints of Cage's & Sonya's fighting.

They might not bring everyone back for MKX, but i hope that for future game(s) they do bring them back.

Oh I know, all i was trying to get as was that the way some of them died would've been questionable!

And yes As much as i loved Nightwolf in MK9 and not gonna lie, would lie to see him back simply because i thought they brought him justice in MK9. But i actually do agree with you, his sacrifice was amazing and it would cheapen him by bringing him back,

The great thing about fighting games is that the play style of a dead character can be worked into a new one. Maybe not in a way that makes the new character a clone of the former, but similar enough to bring back a popular play style.

All ED BOON got to do is this,resurrect/bring back some of the Mortal Kombat 9 characters that was killed & bring them into the Mortal Kombat X game.

One thing you all have to remember is that certain characters like Johnny Cage and Liu Kang where already killed off and there's always an excuse to bring them back if they want to. IIRC the way Johnny was brought back in MKT was his soul couldn't rest knowing his friends where in trouble or something like that... or his transition to the afterlife got interrupted due to the invasion of earth so he got sent back. Then of course later on Liu Kang got brought back as Zombie Liu Kang.

Either way there's no such thing as permadeath in Mortal Kombat. No one can just sit there and say.. BUT THEY DIED SO THEY CAN'T RETURN NEVER EVER EVER! And actually.. to be totally frank death already doesn't mean much in the series as a whole. Even for just the simple fact that characters die after every match. :P

Also, having a character inherit the moves of an older one hasn't always been successful I mean.. does anyone here prefer Jarek to Kano? :)

It's not hard to bring a dead person back.

It's hard to have a way for them to come back without having a reason why every dead character can't come back in the same way.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather not have a character at all if they can't be brought back in a way that respects the story.

Good Story > Favourite fighters for me, although I don't think that's a great marketing ploy

Honestly for the series' sake, leave them dead. MK doesn't pull a Tekken/DOA/VF/Soul Calibur etc. where they bring basically everyone back and then just add 2-4 new characters for each iteration. With that said, it's going to get crowded.

Onaga could return and resurrect earthrealm warriors to fight for him. Not many people think that Onaga could be the returning boss characters.

That would be rehash on what we saw in MKD when Onaga resurrect the people who got killed off in MKDA. I doubt NRS is going to rehash too much on what we seen already.

What's wrong with a stable roster? Besides, VF and DOA in particular never had a large cast to begin with.

I should've clarified, I like the Tekken/VF/DOA model. The thing is though, what we've seen from MK is that they throw out half the returning roster and replace them with new characters, each game. Seems to be no letting up with that, so I want them to throw the dead people out permanently (with a few important exceptions) so that way there is no crowding.

I think the problem with this game is that since in MK9, a lot of the roster was killed off, NRS can't necessarily keep the roster in MK9 and add a few characters for MKX like other fighters do. Nothing's wrong with a stable roster, it's just with the way MK9 was setup, NRS can't really do that without seeming cheap (story-wise).

Oh okay, I was confused about your post. For the continuity purposes, it makes sense if dead characters stay dead (although I wouldn't be suprised if NRS uses another alternative timeline in the future). However, killing people left right gives them no time to develop.

I agree that the deaths will be rendered meaningless if they magically come back to life.

On the other hand, I still wish to see certain characters again, especially after the way the characters were killed off in MK9.
