Hey everyone,

So I am just coming back from seeing the last Harry Potter film, and it was really REALLY good! I really recommend it to anybody... It was a great way to end such an amazing franchise.
This thread is for you to express what you thought of the film once you watch it... but please, lets keep this thread SPOILER FREE for those who haven't seen it. If you want to discuss a certain scene or part on the film, please use the spoilers tab.

*Really Nerdy Voice* Um its Harry Potter and the "Deathly" Hallows. Now excuse me I have to go practice casting my patronus charm.
 
I'll keep it short. I'm not going to recommend this movie to anyone. I expected an epic battle and got maybe half that. I'm not a potter fan to begin with but I expected more from a series such as this. I really liked the first few but the movies got weaker as they went on. And this one just doesn't land well for me. Not what I expected. It does have a few really good scenes though. but the other half was just meh. Camera work is wierd sometimes, and the colourfull scenes from the past are gone. Acting is solid for the most part.

A 2,5 out of 5. 3,5 if your a potter fan.

Disagree with you, but I respect your review. I still think it was awesome =]

I havent gotten to see it yet But I read the books with my son Damian and the whole battle of hogwarts is great in the book. But the final Harry and Voldemort stand off is anti climactic to say the least. But I enjoyed the book. Im sure the film will be pretty good as well.
 
An amazing movie from start to finish. They did a VERY good job taking every major event in the book, and fleshing it out with as many details possible. With the amount of time they had, the amount of detail and suspense they created was ridiculous. Even if you don't follow the series as hardcore as most of us Potter fans, the movie does a great job at explaining things thoroughly.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone even casually following the series. It's an intense and action packed film, with many sad and nostalgic scenes. I think you can ask any HP fan how many scenes brought them close to tears, and their answer will be 3+.

And for those complaining about the level of action in this HP film, I suggest you go rewatch all the previous films. Harry Potter has NEVER been about the action, but rather the intricate and amazing story. Plus this film is FILLED with action AND suspense. From start to finish.

Harry Potter has been the greatest series of my time. Seriously, nothing rivals it. And this movie was a great way to end it.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Pirates of the Caribean series, The Matrix trilogy, Toy story series are all much better series than Hp in my opinion, especially LOTR. HP is surely in the top 10 of all time best series no doubt, but it is not the best.

Would like to point out that I'm not ripping on HP (3 - 7 are great), it's just not best EVAR lol

LoTR was written way longer than 20 years ago if I'm not mistaken. The Matrix Trilogy was great easily up there in my favorites, but they are just movies, no books to further support the saga. Pirates? No way. I love those movies but they shouldn't even put a preview of a Pirates movie before HP. Toy Story? Come on now.

You guys do realize I'm talking about the books and the movies as well right? The lore rivals that of classics like Star Wars and LoTR. If you guys haven't read the books, you don't really have a say in it. The movies are amazing, but the books have soooo much more detail and lore.

Aah ok, got you now, thought you were exclusively talking about the movies. Lore wise, HP along with LOTR are the best all time and in the last 20 years, HP surely takes the first spot.

EDIT: The Chronicles of Narnia by C.H. Lewis is quite good too (along with the movies) imo.

As for Book series, it's in my Top 5,
also Game of Thrones is an amazing book series, check it

Nah sorry for not clarifying guys, haha. The movies are amazing, but nothing close to the books. I like to see them as a visual aid more than anything. The books are so detailed I can paint a vivid picture in my mind with what's going on. But the movies are so good, I don't have to half the time.

Chronicles of Narnia is pretty cool, but they never really kept me interested like HP did. Mrodz, I've heard about that, I'll have to check it out.

Im 27 so when I was a kid Star Wars was re-released when I was 11 and then came the prequels of course Id known those movies since childhood but really latched onto them in adolescence. Those movies defined a generation in the 70s and then again in the 90s I followed Star Wars in theatres until Episode 3 when I was 19. That was my generations big saga along with The Lord Of The Rings. But Harry Potter is this generations saga. Kids born in the 90s that saw the 1st film @ 11 yrs old are 18 and 19 now it is definitely a defining saga for them. Just like kids born in 2000 have The Hunger Games. Now its up for debate which is the greatest saga but the fact is I enjoy all of them but of course Star Wars holds a special place for me because I grew up with it. The same goes for DCP and Harry Potter. Every generation will have stories like this they all follow the same archetypes there are shades of Luke Skywalker in Harry and shades of Anakin in Voldemort. Read the hero of a thousand faces by Joseph Campbell. These are coming of age stories that will be repeated until the end of time and have been told since the beginning. Its just different for each generation and we can all relate to something in each saga. Theyre fantastic stories they werent the first and certainly wont be the last.

Just to clarify how alike these archetypes are. Take a look @ the hero character. All the heroes in the Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter sagas have so much in common. They all have humble begginings and feel they are destined for so much more. Luke as a farm hand. Frodo as a simple hobbit and Harry as the child that slept in a cupboard. All long for adventure. Luke wants to fight in the rebellion. Frodo looks to his uncles adventures and longs for his own journey and Harry has things happen around him that he knows shouldnt and makes him feel like hes destined for bigger things. There is always a wiser character that mentors the hero and helps them on their journey to greatness. Luke has Obi-Wan, Frodo with Gandalf and Harry with Dumbledore. All heros start humble and become great. Luke becoming a jedi and defeating the emperor, Frodo destroying the ring and defeating sauron, Harry becoming a great wizard and defeating voldemort. All these characters share common traits or archetypes that can be traced all the way back to stories like The Sword In The Stone. All are age old parallels that have been and will continue to be repeated until the end of time. All people feel like they are destined for great things and long for adventure. Its something inside our DNA that makes us identify so greatly with these stories and the characters within them. The names and circumstances may be different but the archetypes of these characters stay the same. Read Joseph Campbell it is interesting and will give you a greater understanding of what Im talking about.
 
I just got out of from seeing HP and what a ride! Great movie great way to end the movie series! I'm a big HP fan it's only second to my love for MK. I've read all the books and it put the visuals together well. There's only a couple of things I would have like to have seen.

1. The final battle actually taken place in the great hall and not in the destroyed courtyard. This was my favorite part in the book. When reading it you felt like you were in the crowd watching.

2. Where's the Montage? Really thought there would be a memory montage while the credits were rolling. You know like pictures from all the potter movies. Something like the end of lethal weapon 4 for those who have seen it!

Other than that it's pretty good. The books are a hundred times better than the movies.
