Got my degree

Okay so my degree certificate came through the post on Wednesday (they posted it to me...Thats so cheap!). Not been able to enjoy it because its not the grade I wanted and its meant nothing in the way of getting me in work.

So I have a degree in "Fine Art", everlasting depressing opinions on Art, £16,000+ debt to pay off..

Note to all: Don't go to University. Not a UK University... And if you do go; take a useful subject. I've got people at the job centre asking me why I'm not in a art related job an I'm trying to explain to them that I've had too many bad experiences now to care about art. Its not a case of I won't do it... Its a case of I just "can't" which they all fail to understand.

And as I've said... I've been in depression since I got it.

A degree from a good university in art will get you a job at an art gallery or teaching art or something art related. But to really get up in the art world it's all about making connections. But you say you're not in a profession related to art, so obviously an art degree won't get you very far. I'm quite certain my degree will get me a job in the profession I want.

Congrats Angel! You can find something in the Art world, but it just takes time, effort and connections.

You do digital art? We are working on a redesign of TRMK finally, if anyone wants to contribute ideas for the logo/top area. ;)

Im actually considering becoming a freelance photographyer. I have the equpitment to do it now (you need a digital SLR), I need to get some photos together and pick my best ones out. I'm not going too far at the moment because money is sharp (still unemployed).

I just do feel like doing the arty bit that earnt me that degree anymore. Hence why I've not done any MK related art in ages. Its a guess of being fed of with producing mass amounts of pictures, only to see them get third related behind some junk the tutors all ranted and raved about. Plus, I have no window of oppotunity to do it anymore (no art studio access and no money to get one). I can't even do a teaching job because art tutors aren't in demand and I can't afford to add to that £16,000+ debt which already goes up £60 a month. :-(

Plus I still enjoy photography, I don't enjoy art. No one has ruined photography for me yet like they did with art. I just need to get things in order and I'll start looking for adresses to send off to. Trouble is to get the photos I want my father decides to take me the places I want to go to. I don't mind... But... Having him around kinda spoils it. I remember my father dropping me off on a trip with the uni and hanging around to take me home. He kept coming up to see what I was drawing, it felt uncomfortable.

I can totally see how that would put a damper on the artistic spirit. But hey, he's offering to help. The way I see it, if money is the real hinderance for the moment, just get a job with your degree that will make you some money even if that aspect of art has been "ruined" for you. If you struggle through that long enough to get some cash, then you can be whatever you want.

Yeah, they finally set a date for the ceremony back in November. £230+ for a handsake with Lord Ricks, a former comedian. I'm feeling a lot better abut my degree since, but you know, I'm still unemployed. Getting degree doesn't mean you'll have that "head start" in life they promise you. I keep trying to find arty things to do but nothing ever happens when I do them. My art certainly isn't earning me money. :-/

He he can't really feel to bad for you on that debt there ^^

I'm moving to Uk to study 3d animation in 1,5 years. It will cost me 9953.13GBP :D

Infakt that thats year 3. i'm paying the same for year one and two aswell ^^

Thank god for Norwegian scollaships :D

Erm... Yeah... No "dude"ing please, I get annoyed as it is that most of the net presumes most of the net is full of guys. ^_^'

That debts annoying, the student loans company wants me to pay £150 a month starting the 6th of April when I'm not working. My dad sent a letter to them not so long ago proving I was out of work (and no legit to pay back). Either the letter is late or they've not got the letter my dad sent.

What's wrong with "dude"? I use it as a catch-all. Sort of like how I always say "guys" even if there are girls in the group. Only when it's a group of all females will I say "girls" or "ladies". How do you feminize "tough break dude"? "Tough break dudette"? I guess that works.

But more on-topic, do you think it's because of your degree not being any use outside the art world or simply the crummy world economy that's keeping you jobless now? Because if it's the former then I think my previous commentary still stands.

I'm fine with dudette, or any other female title. Guys is acceptable, even I use that term. Silly isn't it, but thats the net effect. As I said before I've stressed I'm female because everyone presumes your a guy on the net.

As it stands right now, its become a combination of both... There wasn't a world crisis when I first got my degree, but now there is... I'm in the long line next to 2 mil other peeps out of work (and growing).

Got the student loan thingy sorted, turns out that letter was a stanrd letter they send to everyone (hopeless waste of paper and money). >_<'
