Goro and Release date revealed.

There shouldn't be any guaranteed characters for MK.
I know that there are, but it truly hurts the story. It makes death mean so little.

Tekken 7 is going to be the last game with the Mishimas. I hope that one day MK can kill off some of it's headliners.
Killing off the headliner(s) is commercial suicide.

Every game has its headliners, though.
How is MK any different?
Headliners help to sell the game.

Smash Bros has Super Mario and Luigi.
SF has Ken and Ryu.
MK has Scorpion and Sub-Zero

I'm just wondering if he's going to be taller than Kotal Kahn. I feel a character like GORO should be the tallest character in the game. Also how is he gonna play? I can't imagine Goro doing some crazy combos and juggles lmao. When I wondered about his frailties NetherRealm tweeted me saying the team won't let me down, so im pretty sure his fatalities will be sick!

I have. He's repetetive and boring.

I hope Goro will have certain depth to him. I'd be happy if he actually talked... a bit. Would make him look less dumb... at least for character of his level.
I'm absolutely sure he'll talk in the custom intros.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Liu Kang based on the exact same thing MK itself was originally based on?

Jean-Claude Van Damme?

I could see him being a good match-up against Ferra / Torr.
Goro should play like a Bane or Jax type of power character.

MK was based on various things, not JUST Enter The Dragon.
MK was also based on other martial arts movies like Big Trouble in Little China (Raiden & Shang Tsung) and Blood Sport (Jean Claude Van Damme, aka Johnny Cage).

I was speaking of the story of the first MK.

Originally the game was designed as a Van Damm game, kinda like Shaq-Fu. Then he dropped out of it for a movie for some other reason, not really sure.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

So was I.

Raiden was inspired by Thunder, from Big Trouble in Little China.
Shang Tsung was inspired from Lo Pan (a sorcerer) from the same movie.
There was a 2-armed hairy monster which was essentially the Goro of that movie.
Liu Kang = Bruce Lee
Johnny Cage = an amalgamation of Jan Claude Van Damme and Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China)

Van Damme actually turned the Midway project down due to a commitment to Sega for a Genesis game (I don't think that game was ever released, if I'm not mistaken). The only part of the final product that even references Van Damme is Johnny Cage. The guts of the game's story was based on Enter the Dragon.

Ohh, ok. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I have always had my suspicions that Lui Kang was based on Bruce Lee, high pitched yelling and all. haha

It stood to reason that if the guts of the MK1 story was based on Enter the Dragon (a bunch of unsuspecting martial artists on a leaky boat going to some Island in the Pacific to compete in a corrupt tournament), then it stands to reason that the man based on EtD's primary protagonist to be the primary protagonist of MK (in both cases, the only man on that boat to know the truth behind that corrupt tournament).

Are you guys serious? lol Liu Kang a vital character? He hasn't been essential to the series for a while now. People are sick of seeing him win every tournament and when Liu Kang isn't winning... He's irrelevant in almost every way. He is not a character with a lot going on for him. 20 something years later, I think the fan base is ready to let go. I rarely ever see people raving about him. He is one character that has overstayed his welcome. Same for most of the originals. And with the story jumping so far ahead into the future, it just seems idiotic to keep these characters on board. NRS is trying to build the next generation of MK heroes. There's no place for Liu, Johnny or Sonya in that future.

Enter characters like Cassie Cage, who replaces someone like Sonya without straying too far from the MK norm. Seriously though, Scorpion and Sub Zero are the only must haves at this point. They could even get away with excluding Raiden. Which I predict will happen very soon.

Liu Kang is part of the 4 main characters in every MK game.
While Sub-Zero and Scorpion are the 2 must-haves, closely behind are Liu Kang and Raiden.

With Raiden saying he "Stands watch for eternity," I hardly doubt he's going anywhere soon.
As for Liu Kang, if he becomes an evil god-like character in MKX (as was hinted in a couple of the MK9 endings), then there's plenty of reason for him to stay, especially with the likelihood of him becoming a new Boss character.
