For those complaining about this game being a re-hash

Everyone has their own tastes, if they had made this a game with a mostly unknown roster I'd be far less excited about it. I love the klassic characters that have been brought back so far. Also we have what like half of the roster revealed and about 1/3 of that is new characters so that's a pretty good percentage, more than most fighting games give. Hell most fighting games add 2 new characters or so per update.

This drama about characters came too early in my opinion. NRS choice of released info may be poorly chosen with too many MK9 returning characters revealed one after the other. But there's still plenty of space in the roster.
Recent comic spoilers have hinted at at least one of the most wanted MK4 onwards character being playable. The incoming entirely new characters will also help ease things along from "too much MK9".

I think the most important things to focus on is that the not-dead-after-all characters seem to be very well done. I didn't want them back myself either, but at least from what we can see they returned as the best Kitana and the best Kung Lao we've seen so far.
Secondly, we don't know how the story will fix things up.

But most of all, this is a fighting game. Compared to the competition, like Street Fighter or Tekken, Mortal Kombat is easily the game that evolves the most from one release to the next.
We can legitimately complain, but let's keep it in perspective, they are still doing it better than most.

I do indeed agree with the fact that the revealed characters have so far only been MK9 characters is rather poor choice... but NRS/WB's marketing for this game has been VERY lacking overall. It would've been alot nicer if they had mixed it up a bit. A few MK9 characters, then maybe another whole new character, then a post-MK3 character, and then repeat.

I've never gave a proper introduction, so I'll make it quick....
I've beeen stalking this Forum since 2010. I'm familiar with all you and your personalities. I am a Casual/Competitive Gamer. Fighting and Adventure is my gaming genres. More importantly, I'm knowledgable to the entire MK Lore.Glad to finally feel comfortable with joining you guys.

With that out the way, I 'm inlove with the Story of MK. I feel its a big part in my hype everytime a new installment dropped. MK9 was no exception.
When they killed off half the cast, my jaw dropped. I was thinking, how are they going to follow up with this.
Fastforward to MKX. NRS stresses a new generation of fighters. Immediately announcing MKX, Sub Zero is the very first fighter we see 5 seconds into the trailer. In my mind I'm thinking "Oh hes a given besides theres an army of Subzeros". Or like Commander mentioned multiple times, it could be Bi-Han cleansed by the Soulnado. Which is sensible to speculate.

Then comes Kung Lao. Then I witnessed all Hell break loose between you all. My intial reaction was "WHAT!?!? I did NOT see Kung Lao coming back out of all people." Then, I did a Touchdown Dance, because hes my favorite. Though, I was mentally prepared for him to remain dead or out the Roster. I love and hate that hes back as playable, because I hoped for a serious story with serious deaths this time around........BUT, I love that hes back, because I'm a Gameplay Freak. I loved playing Kung Lao since MK2. In my mind, Gameplay takes shotgun over story. Thats where NRS is going to get there Replayability from. Thats whats going to sale DLC Characters down the line. Plus, this is a Fighting Genre not Adventure otherwise NRS would be dishing out Story Expansion DLC.

The focus is on both story and gameplay. I'm not digging the dead has came back to play Kill Kill Stab Stab, but at the same time, I'm happy.

As for the whole new characters side, COOOMMMMEEEE OOOOOON PEOPLE!!! Theres more space left. I know the Marketing sucks for giving us new information so far apart with MK9 characters being all we got, BUT I see what they are doing. There are a SHIT-TON of people out there that loves MK, but does not Forumsurf or hunt down the latest like we all do......Wow who would've thought we'd be outnumbered by a mass of casuals and everyday living people?
Familar faces get the attention of the masses at the end of the day. So I can't hate NRS for that decision.

Bottom line, we can complain, whine, get mad, or give sincere opinions all we want, but it won't change anything. The characters aren't going anywhere, the story for MKX won't change, and we have to live with it. The only thing you CAN change is if you will give NRS your money or not. You may not be able to control the decision of dead characters in the game, but at least you can manipulate your Wallet. LOL
I'm buying the game regardless. Kollectors Edition or at the very least preorder a regular copy. I'm going to enjoy the "Half Cleaned Slate" and super fast bloody gameplay.

Thats all my opinion. My pointless opinion like everyone else. Though I respect everyone's voice. Thats what Forums are for anyway.

So I should say "mk4+ characters besides Kenshi and Quan Chi"? Too long, lol. People should be able to ascertain I'm not referring to them.

He incubuslord knew exactly what "post-MK3" referred to before Kitana's reveal.
He just wants to argue for the sake of arguing now.

Do as I do -- treat him like a ghost. It's an attention thing, so if you comment back, they're getting the attention they desperately want/need.

Thanks.
Will do.
I've already begun doing this with some people who treat me like garbage.

For the last time, the roster is split in half, new and old, 12 and 12.

SMH at people who say there's no new characters/they're playing it safe. Having half the roster being new is playing safe? They probably are keeping them as surprises because of the crap they will get from Tarkatan Trash and the rest of the nostalgia dudes.

I think the roster being split in half, returning from Mortal Kombat (2011) and characters not in Mortal Kombat (2011) is more like it. I am not sure we'll be getting 10 or more brand new characters.

No, I just want people to word their arguements more correctly when referring to specific aspects.
I explained myself in my post, but I can tell you are still sour.

Please provide evidence if you want your claim to be taken seriously.

No one ever said that the roster is 50/50.
You're assuming that.
Boon saying a vague Tweet, as he usually does, doesn't = the roster being 50/50.
If anything, Boon saying that MKX would have more new characters than any previous MK game, strongly hinted at more new characters than returning.

The nostalgia dudes can f*** off, then.
The people who mostly buy MK games aren't the hardcore people stuck in the 90s.
That's a small minority.

Can't find it but he said top row old, bottom row new.

EDIT: More new characters than any game ->11 new characters minimum.

I don't see how Kung Lao being alive is a retcon? We have no idea the scene with Raiden asking where he has been happens. It could happen 25 years later for we all we know. I think the people who died in MK9 are brought back to life early on in the game and Kung Lao disappears for 25 years which explains why he is so old.

Someone else pointed that out, and Ed said something vague like "Ok."
Ed never confirmed that to be so.
Also, Shaun Himmerick said that they were going to fit as many characters on the roster as possible, and Ed Boon said that there would be 30-seomthing characters.
10 is the minimum in MKX (which seems like the route that NRS is going), given that Moloch was a sub-boss that wasn't "playable" when he made his debut.

If that specific scene happened 25 years later, then Kung Lao would be old, and he's NOT old when Raiden asks him that.
The scene that showed Kung Lao being where he was, when Raiden asks, also has a young Kung Lao.

I hadn't seen the 30-something comment from Boon. If that is the case Im far less concerned about returning characters. If there are, say 35, that is a lot of room not just for returning characters, but MK4 characters and new ones.

Between MK9 and MK4 you could bring back 20 characters and still have 15 new ones.

By 30 something character, Ed Boon is likely talking about DLC as well. So 12 new and 12 old plus 6 DLC would be around 30.

But 30-something is not thirty. It is a direct implication of more than 30.

Im not saying you are wrong, maybe there will only be 30.
