favourite mk ever?

Couldn't agree about Trilogy being terrible more!

I was an enormous MK fan even back then and wanted Trilogy to be awesome. Instead, we got a glitchfest. The audio on the N64 version was muffled and laughable, and you couldn't even play as classic Raiden or Kano. The PSX version was better, but had inexcusable load times even for back then.

Midway marketed Trilogy as being a combination of 1, 2, and 3. But in reality, it was just UMK3 with a couple of extra characters thrown in. It didn't have any of the play sensibilities of MK or MKII.

Trilogy was an abomination.

I guess it depends of the "generation" you're from. My favorite is MK2. I was like 13-14 back then and when this game came out it was out of this world compared to mk1. A lot faster, more fluid and the combo possibilities were greater. Man I miss the arcade days....

Around 10 years later it came out on psn and it was still in my blood lol. I remembered almost every moves and fatalities. I was doing them without thinking.

So yea, when I played MK9 at PAX, it really felt like I was a 14 year old playing mk2 in the arcades again. It was AMAZING. Can't wait for this game...

Gameplay-wise UMK3, but stylistically MKII...

Until 19/21 april, because MK9 will be the definitive MK, I'm pretty sure of it: best graphics, best fatalities, best fighting engine, best EVERYTHING!

amen.

and a big middle finger to the person who said MK3 was better than UMk3....read the neg rep.

MKII is by far my favorite Mortal Kombat game. The atmosphere of the levels felt so unique and awesome. The fatalities IMO were the most unique and badass out of the series. I just overall loved everything about that game, it also holds the most nostalgia out of any MK for me.

I still remember the first time I saw MKII at the arcade. I was with my dad at the desk getting coins and I turned around and there it was in all of it's gory glory. I couldn't believe how much better it looked than the first Mortal Kombat. There was a guy playing as Shang Tsung against Kintaro, he destroyed him and then went on to destroy Shao Kahn. At first I thought he was playing as Liu Kang until I actually got a chance to play the game. I nearly crapped myself with joy when I found out that Reptile was a playable character as he was my favorite back then. I must of pumped a few hundred dollars into that MK machine over the next couple of years. Since that day MKII has and probably always will be my favorite MK game. Here's to hoping that MK9 can dethrone it though. It looks like it may be a serious contender.

MK2 and dare i say MK4!!

MK4 is underrated, if it was still 2D and kept the same fatalities it could have been a classic along the first three. Plus it had some features that can be found again in MK9, like the brutal throws that destroyed limbs and stuff; when I first watched x-rays I immediately thought of MK4 and its crazy throws!

Mortal Kombat 2 just because of the mystery surrounding the game. Those were pretty magical days.

Mortal Kombat Deception is my most recent favorite.

"I rule this world!"

"Kidd Thunder!"

"RAIDEN WINS
FLAWLESS VICTORY
FRIENDSHIP. FRIENDSHIP?!"

"Feel the power of TOASTY!"

I think you can figure out which game I'm talking about.

UMK3 hands down, MK2 a close second (really close). I agree with you, orbofuncreation, UMK3 has a better gameplay, but nothing beats MK2 art style.

Until 4/19, of course. MK9 is gonna make every fighting game out there look laughable.

MK1 was the first game I ever played. Scorpion's "Toasty!" fatality was the first I ever saw. MK2 and MK3 was some of the first game I ever owned. Mortal Kombat is in my blood. I remember playing on The Dead Pool stage being too afraid to play because if I lost, the flashing "FINISH HIM!!!" would pop up and I'd be scared senseless. I also remember playing MK3 on the SNES, fighing Nightwolf with Kung Lao at The Bridge, and being scared to play against Mileena because of her Man-Eater fatality. I loved trying to fight Kintaro with Jax and Raiden. Still haven't beaten that bastard to this day. When I defeated Motaro with Stryker, boy was I happy. I got to face Shao Kahn the Konquerer, and I was excited and nervous at the same time. I remember beating Shinnok on MK4 with Reiko and being confused as hell by it. I never played Deadly Alliance and Deception until years after it came out because I was too obsessed with Super Smash Bros. Melee at the time. Good times...

MK9 is going to absolutely amazing; it not only has the content, story, presentation, fatalities and nostalgia factor, it has the gameplay and graphics to match. Can't wait!!!

MKII, MK1, MKD are my top 3, close fourth are MKT/MK3, next is MKTE, MK4, MKDA and MKA, i would not call it the worst, but perhaps the most disappointing of the canon games is MK3, for it's lack of classic characters, of course that was fixed in UMK3.
