Ed Boon Interview - Angry Joe - March 30th 2015

no stage fatalities also means no pit level and no deadpool and no spikes :( none of that cool shit

that shit to me is like the essence of MK

NRS just keep making head scratching decisions imo

Huh?
They said that none of the characters even have anything done besides the models, and even then, models are likely to be edited.
In a Kombat Kast 2 weeks ago they said that they barely just started working on Jason in-game. That means that Tanya, Tremor, and Predator probably haven't even been given punches or kicks yet. Kombat Pack 1 is nowhere near done.

What?

Working on some DLC characters = working on stuff in the Kombat Pack. They were only doing motion capture for them like a week ago, and the first character hasn't even been released yet.

I really think some of you guys are jumping the gun here. They wouldn't confirm a second Kombat Pack before the first is done, and they wouldn't even be able to make one unless the first sells well.

I had no idea... i believed it was finished because we are very close to the release. that's why i thought they're working on kp2. i thought it was a slow-process.

they said Jason wasn't done, they never said they barely started working on him. in fact, boon tweeted pics of them in the motion capture room for Predator, so they're further than you think

No, the Kombat Pack is basically a season pass. They will release everything at intervals; aside from the Samurai stuff, none of it will be available at release. You're not getting four DLC characters in April, you're getting them (probably) May - July/August.

Exactly.
Someone gets it.

My guesses are as follows, for DLC releases:

May = Jason, IMO, since the First Friday the 13th movie came out on May 9, 1980.
June = Predator, IMO, since the first Predator movie came out on June 12 1987.
July = Tanya
August = Tremor

Nah, they got a lot faster at pumping out DLC in Injustice than MK9, to the point where the gap was as little as 2 weeks between releases.

They had 6 DLC characters out before end of August.

Yep. The point of the Kombat Pack is that - assuming you intend to buy all the DLC - you save money (about 20/25%) and you may be able to download them before they go on sale individually.

The only character I have a genuine interest in playing regularly in Predator, so in the end I didn't bother.

The point still stands that all the DLC characters won't be available on Day 1 (April 14th, 2015), though.
The final DLC for MKX will also all be out by August, not before then.

What will likely happen is essentially the first part of what mandead said:

That said, if MK9 and Injustice are anything to go by, the Kombat Pack DLC characters likely won't be out before everyone else gets to download it individually.
It just means that you are fully committing to the decision of buying the DLC characters early, and thus you may save some money, overall.

The only thing that the Kombat Pack will likely give you "early access" to is the Samurai skin pack.

Wouldn't it be safe to assume the trailer for the Kombat Pass already put the characters release in order?

I enjoyed the interview and dig the guy's enthusiasm. But he should learn to let the guest speak more. Ed Boon does fantastic interviews. I feel like he wanted to say more but kept getting cut off. The big thing I got out of this interview is that they are considering more DLC. I figure if Injustice got 6 characters then why not try to match that number of 6 or try to out do yourselves and go for the 8?

I don't disagree, there will be gaps between releases just like MK9 and Injustice.

It's possible, but it may not necessarily go in that exact order.

You don't find it extremely coincidental that they released Jason as a DLC character on Friday The 13th?
Who's to say that maybe they don't do the same for the release date, as a nod to the 1st Friday The 13th movie in May?

I really hope No Stage Fatalities means we are at least getting the rumored Stage Brutalities. If we don't get either, Ill be scratching my head. Im shocked they would think that is something they could leave out. It was understandable in MK DA cause Midway rushed them and they said they ran out of time and then again in MK vs. DC cause well that game was trash but MKX?

Well thats a huge disappointment, especially considering how cool they made them in MK9.

Word on the street is that they have simply been replaced by Stage Brutalities. Lets just hope that these Stage Brutalities are a suitable replacement.

For those who were wondering about the Raiden/Kung Lao dialogue, this is what they said

Raiden: Where have you been Kung Lao?

Kung Lao: Training in Seclusion

Raiden: Show me what you have learned.

I suspect the roster is finished although fujin may be the surprise unlockable but i wouldn't get my hopes up.
If the remaining roster slots are as we believe (Jax, Jacqui, Sonya, Kenshi) and there's an unlockable character we don't yet know about, then the top bets are Fujin and Baraka... and that's assuming there's only one.

But hell, the hype is real. Fujin looks awesome and seems to be getting some good screen time in story mode. It's more likely than not, IMO.
