Is it just me, or do the characters just not seem like themselves anymore? I think that NRS should have modeled the characters to look more like how they should, like how they have looked in the past. Two examples are Nightwolf and Kung Lao. How they look now, they look like steroid-induced meatheads. They shouldn't be that big, they should just be a bit buff but not huge. To me, this is just as annoying as sexing up the females.

The older the better. Maybe not with women but with games and characters....
Nightwolf must be the one that have aged the worst.
This is a re-telling of MK 1-3 but he looks like he's gone gold himself. or maybe silver is more like it.
 
Yeah I would have like to seen the older versions of the characters but fingers crossed DLC their original costumes from their best appearance from the MK-umk3 era.

I think they look alright. Or kinda the same actually. But I hate how they sex up the females. Mileena, I'm ok with. Kitana and Jade. NO. They are edenian warriors. Not strippers. ESPECIALLY Sonya!!!!!!! She is an officer!
 
Use MK2011, not Deception pictures if you want to prove your point...To address the topic, I'm not all nostalgic. To me, some designs had their share of ups and downs over the years. I was never fan of the MK2 Shang Tsung. The MK2011 Nightwolf is closer to his MK3 counterpart than Deception. I like the fact that the ninjas have more individuality over the years instead of being color swaps of of one another. My favorite version of Sonya was her MK3 depiction. I personally think the MK9 is the best yet.

Unfortunately, ever since MK went 3D, there is little variation in terms of height and build. With few exceptions, you basically have 1 male build and 1 female build. Raiden, at 7 ft tall, should tower above most of the other characters, yet this is not reflected in his in-game models so far.

Doesn't seem exactly the same since you're lumping this in with the skimpy attire of the females. Yeah, the guys are probably a little abnormally muscular, but I don't think it's intolerable.

To be honest, I'd rather see them (the males and females) have difference physiques simply because everyone isn't built the same and the variety would be cool. I could seriously see Sonya looking like Sarah Conner in T2, Mileena and Sindel should have huge tits (it's a distraction) while Jade and Kitana have more modest outfits because of their roles.

Not gonna happen, evidently. :(

Real warriors? Real warriors are not overgrown meatheads, the only people that big are body builders. I never commented on realism anyways, I was commenting on being faithful to their old appearance, which is how they should look. But if you want real, here is real.

agreed 100% the anatomy is all wrong, would look ok in a comic but not the game, the charactors have lost some of their important charactor traits,

kung lao>used to be tall and thin, but still agile and strong and hidden under his hat in a mysterious manner, now hes short and chunky and has a face like a small boy.

subzero> he was a light footed ninja with proper ninja qualitys and movements, now he is chunky and moves very heavily and has a stance like a bear wrestler

scorpion, was even more light footed because of the teleport, but now looks very heavy and slow with all the uneccessary armour.

i could go on, but i feel really bad when i complain about things rather than praise them, but its an important issue and i dont see why every male charactor has to be ridiculously muscley and every female has to be half naked, kung lao should be slim and agile thats his thing!, and nightwolf> theres just no need for him to be huge at all, its as if the MK team have some kind of law that says (all fighters must be huge, and if a fighter does not have huge shoulders and huge arms then they would not be a good fighter), if anything being huge and muscley is a disadvantage. in reality bodybuilders dont fight as good as ninjas and shoulin monks, like the females being half naked, the huge shoulders and muscles is just another stereotype of a strong male and id expect better from designers who have degrees and been chosen to work for a multi million dollar company because of their high level of skill.

personally little things like this get me really frustrated because you would think someone at NRS would pick up on this and say something, and you would think the research team would look at a proper shoulin monk and see that theyre not muscle men at all. i expect with todays technology and the huge team thats working on the game this time to look into getting more defined authentic bodys thats suit the characters preference.

the reason the earlier games were more successful at this is because they took a real person and recorded their actual movements then put them into the game where as this time theyre building the fighters from scratch, but still they should still build them with the correct anatomy.

I hope they listen and fix this, ive been upset with the chunky ninja thing for a long time.

And the fighters actually aren't that overgrown in this game. The ninjas are, but the rest look pretty decent. Have you ever met a soldier or someone that pounds on a punching bag all ****ing day?

They get big and muscly.

Get a clue.

I like the games artistic design. they all look awesome. I think the girls look fine the way they are. people are complaining about the stripper looks and the high heels. well in martial arts most straight kicks are performed with the heel. and I tell you what, I sure as shit don't wanna get kicked with one o them things. yeah they look skimpy, but come on mk is in a parallel universe from our own. kind like in last action hero when all the chicks were sexed up and there where assassins everywhere. this game looks great stop whining and appreciate it.

Reaver does have a point though. Building muscle is one one thing, but it doesn't change the fact that everyone has a different build underneath. Some people have torso wider at the top than bottom, creating a triangular shape. Others may have torso more evenly developed. Some, while having a lot of muscle mass, do not have a ripped appearance due to fat covering the body. Even well-muscled individuals can have different physiques.

Granted, NRS may not have the time/budget to individualize each character's body type. Hopefully, they will get that opportunity in the future.
