Brokeback Mountain

I just got done watching this movie, and all I can say is... Wow. This movie is amazing.

For those of you who don't know, the movie is based on the E. Annie Proulx story about a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years.

Let me start off by saying that the acting was amazing. I never thought Jake Gyllenhaal would shake the shadow of the role that made him famous, Donnie Darko. I was wrong. Jake Gyllenhaal has finally proven himself to be a real actor and not just another random, unknown guy who got lucky and had his 15 minutes of fame for one movie. Heath Ledger was great, as well. Other cast members include Randy Quaid, Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams. (There are more, of course. I just can't think of them off the top of my head. :P)

Let me say beforehand that I'm not basing my opinions on this movie off of the fact that I myself am gay; there's no biased opinions here. I'm basing it off the fact that it's a really great love story, and by far one of the best drama/romance movies I've seen since The Notebook. Very moving movie.

For those of you who like drama/romance, I highly suggest you see this movie. :)

I'm watching it this weekend so I'll tell you how I liked it. Well, the story looks great and the acting is getting excellent critics so I bet it's worth watching it for sure.

I'm pretty sure the acting was good and the movie I guess, but no I just can't see that. Two guys and all in a romantic movie like this is not my cup of tea. I saw JarHead, The Day After Tomorrow, Bubble Boy and I think another I forget, but I haven't seen Donnie Darko. Bubble Boy was wack, but the other movies he was good in. I think he had been surpassed his 15 minutes of fame in Donnie Darko. I don't think it took BrokeBack Mountain to really get him out there.

i'm not against gay movies like a lot of straight dudes, and i don't believe that watching them will make me gay. hell, priscilla queen of the desert was fucking awesome.

i just think the 'gay cowboy' thing is a bit overdone in world and independant cinema. they'd have you believe that half the wild west were gay, and the other half was clint eastwood.

but tehn again, did anyone ever expect Ang Lee to ever make a film that was better than the mastepiece that was Hulk? (before i get flames, that was a joke)

P.S. holy crap, i didn't know you were gay!

heh ya im homophobic, so i think its a waste of time watchin a bunch of gay cowboys eatin puddin in the theatres Friday. i dont wanna get flame karma, but seriously--this film IS better than Hulk, and Ang Lee is one weird guy.

Nah, dottie_rebel, if u go to IMDB, the first few scenes have *cough*anal*cough* encounters and one guy pees in a river while the other, like, bathes in the river. its really freaky and i will never see it for as long as i live.

I dont Know about that movie and I thought it was like against the rules of being a cowboy to be gay. It seems good from what i here and Ebert and ropert or who ever they are the critics give it two thumbs up. I Dont think thats what i want to spend my money on is gay cowboys.Just listen to it Brokeback Mountain. Some one got there back broken into, doesn't sound good. not that im a gay hater but i would rather see date movie which many people say sucked than watch a gay cowboy movie.

After all the hype it has gotten over the whole gay cowboy thing, I don't care to see it. All that media attention made me sick of it. Wow, gay cowboys, big deal. They had to go and blow it all up.

I wouldn't mind it but... Yaoi or homo fanfiction ruined it for me on anything queer.

There is too many of them. I mean if they were "good" I wouldn't mind but most of them suck and some are worth 5* material.

But its ruined it for me in movies, games, fanfics, pics, etc.

I'm sure it isn't that bad but still... I'm scarred for life.

GAY!!!!

lmao!

Lmao!

Yeah, I'm being forced to watch it, so I'll let you know how it is.

Forced to watch it?! Will someone be holding a gun to your head to accomplish this, dude? :P

Lmao, WAS.

Personally, I have no inclination whatsoever to sit through this film. No matter how well acted, or how good the story is. It's GAY, nuff said

A lot of interesting comments in here... well, okay, that depends on your definition of "interesting".

Someone said earlier that they've got nothing against this movie being about gay cowboys, they just aren't into romantic movies to begin with so they won't see it on those grounds -- that's pretty much my own stance on it, too.

But I can't help but feel sorry for people who are homophobic and will automatically be repelled by something "because it's gay". Real mature, guys.

It really isn't our fault, I use to be ok with people doing that/etc. But after reading so much of it my head went scarred and well never again. Seriously I don't even want to think about getting anal from another guy.

Plus it is how we are raised, to some of us it is immoral. Such as religions/media.

Meh I don't really want to see it. It's not that it has gay cowboys, it's one of those movies about love, friendship, etc. that do not interest me. So that's why I wouldn't want to see it, even if it were a guy and a girl. Though after seeing trailers of it and seeing it win an Oscar, it sounds like a good movie to people who like those kinds of movies.

Agreed.

And I for one do not want to see Heath Ledger get nailed from behind, even if the intimate ( ) moments are very brief. I have to admit that Ang Lee is far from home with this movie, when you consider some of his previous hits. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, The Hulk etc etc. I won't be ignorant and say this movie is a crap, it's probabaly a very well put together movie. And Cudos to Mr Lee for being bold enought to make it.

But once again, the bottom line for me is (no pun intended);

I'm not about to start watching movies that deal with male gay relationships.

I'm not anti-gay... But I don't see how its classified as a romance... To me a romance is a girl and a guy...

Anyway I don't think this movie was all that good, I just wanted it to end... It based on my two least fav genres, romance (guy x guy even worst.... Like... Double eww!!!) and western.

Its one of those movies I wish didn't get so much hype and I'll be glad when its gone. Like... What was the other one... Titanic.

*Titanic = my LEAST fav. movie of all time*.

Then you just contradicted yourself; that statement is blatantly anti-gay.
