Best rock band ever?

Ok, who do you all think is the best rock group of all time? And what album?

I'm going to say Pink Floyd. There is so much genius in PF's work it's amazing. Best album, toss up between Dark Side of the Moon, and The Wall. Wish You Were Here would be a close third.

metallica with master of puppets of ride the lightning

best songs are One,master of puppets for whom the bell tolls orion and sanitarium

classic stuff

Not to offend everyone, as all of them are cool. I'm just a person that tends to listen to the odd band.. You know? I don't listen to Metallica, Nirvana, Ozzy, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, etc etc.

I usually listen to the german bands, or stuff...

GO Killjoy and Einsturzende Neubauten!!!

I don't think there's really a best band. Unique bands have come out with a unique sound. It's hard to classify which is the best.

I concur with Anguish, because of the rapidly changing genres of 'rock', msot people can't distinguish what is rock and what turns out to be emohop trip-metal.

Exactly. I have a variety in my music, I don't care what people think, because I like it. I'm not a fan of country, but sometimes I'll listen to dueling banjos, just because I like the sound. Especially all the Techno-Industrial bands, which use random sounds into extraordinary beats.

I'd have to say:

Static-X: Machine
Metallica: Self Title
Collective Soul: Self Title
Nirvana: Nevermind

I'm sure there is more, but i cannot think of them right now.

I like Emo though....

I would have to say that the original lineup of Guns N Roses was the best band ever.
when I first listened to Paradise City my life changed.it was the first peice of music I ever enjoyed listening to.I was six years old and to this day I still consider them the best band the world has ever known.

I think people who can't pick a facorite band are weak and indecisive. But that's just me.

My personal favorite band would have to be AC/DC, closely followed by such greats as Metallica, Sublime, Hendrix, Floyd, Alice Cooper, Sabbath, Ozzy, The Beatles, Motorhead, and Motley Crue.

I'm a huge NIN fan, but Trent Reznor can't even begin to compare to the greats listed above. He would be WAY out of his league.

Good point. Hope Trent finishes up the new CD soon.

I think a lot of you have given good answers. How about we break it down into decades?

60's: Beatles...changed music forever; no contest.

70's: Floyd...more musical genius in their music than anyone else I can think of. Best band ever.

80's: Tie between G'N'R and Metallica....the two most influential bands of the 80's.

90's: Nirvana...once again, a band that changes music forever. We went from hair bands, butt rock, to grunge/alternative.

2000's: ?

I'd put Sabbath there right along with Floyd, if not above it. And I'd definitely stick AC/DC in with Axl and Co. I just don't like Nirvana, and I didn't much care for the nineties in general, though I suppose that if I had to make my choice, it'd probably be Smashing Pumpkins.

Ive gotta say the deftones, simply because their so creative and original and their sound is like no other band out there. Glassjaw has gotta be another one of those bands that lyrics speak the truth and are unlike anything you have ever heard.

Oh and I agree Trent needs to finish up the album its taken him to damn long.

Hello there, some of you might know me from MKOdyssey.

I don't really think theres a best band, but theres some great bands out there past and present. Bands like AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Black Sabbath, Godsmack, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Nirvana, and Rob Zombie/White Zombie.

Why on Earth would you have Godsmack on that list? I'm not trying to insult you, I just want to know what you could possibly see in that band to put it up in a list like that. You obviously have SOME taste in music, so I'm curious . . .
