Back to block and zoning

Nah it doesn't bother me, I find neither easier or harder. For me its definitely a mental thing. I played a few rounds of MK with a friend last night after he tried Injustice, was awkward trying to get used to the block button at first, but I got the hang.

Find it odd that I never find myself pressing R2 to block on SF or Tekken but on Injustice and MK I constantly find myself pressing R2 to block at times on Injustice or as of recently back to block on MK lol.

Back to block, or using a block button, it's still just another button your pressing but damn it makes games feel different.

I've never been under the opinion that one is better than the other. I know I'm certainly far more used to a block button, as Soul Calibur has been my game of choice for quite a long time. But this isn't throwing me off too badly. Sometimes I forget to do it, but it all just comes down to conditioning.

I know Melee is a fighting game, I never said anything against that. I'm only saying your argument of how deep a block button can be holds no merit to MK because MK has no mechanics like that. It's simple block high or block low. The bare minimal. No push block, no parrying, no evade, no power shielding, no reflecting etc. I could never see Mortal Kombat doing any of those things (Forget Armageddon. Seriously? Air combat?) MK's blocking will likely always stay simple.

Parrying might work out, but more than likely NRS would make the window to parry too large like MK7 and it would be a combo starter. The perfect parry for MK would be like Wonder Woman's bracelet parry in Injustice.

That said, MK could never have back to block. Not with teleports like Smoke and Sektor's.

Like I said block button has more potential. I know mk9 hasn't done anything with it. Doesn't mean they can't.
