Arcade Ladder Endings

Comparing the story line from the story mode to the arcade endings raises a lot of questions. Are the ladder endings just hypothetical endings? Like, 'if the story didn't happen, and character x beat Shao Kahn, here's what would have happened?'

Pretty much. There just "what ifs?". Idk though, they might work some of them into the real canon of the next story. They like to do that sometimes.

Yh, Sub-Zero's ending is the best by far. Also Ermac ending is good and can be cannon. The only already cannon ending is Smoke's.

Considering how much nrs changes between every game anything is possible unmasked subzero in mk3 being white despite being Asian at the end of mk2

That's the dumbest reference. They worked with what they had (financially) available.

Yeah, I was leaning towards that explanation. But as Fox17 pointed out, Ermac's ending could (and I think should) be considered canon. On the flip side, an ending like Kitana's should just be left as a non-canonical "what-if" ending.

Ermac's ending is semi-canon; remember, both Kitana and Sindel were killed and resurrected to serve Quan Chi, and Edenia is still merged with Outworld.

Ah I forgot about that. That means Ermac's can't really be considered canon. Above you mentioned Raiden's being canon. Is that true? I watched that ending telling myself it was ok because it wasn't canon haha.

As this is an entirely new approach to the MK storyline, anything can be considered canon. We will just have to wait until the next game is out to find out.

Most likely. Usually in MK, the arcade endings of the main protagonists (in this case Raiden) are usually canon. Yes, I know this is a new approach to the MK lore but I have other reasons to back this up. The very first two sentences of the ending? "Shao Kahn was gone, but the scars of the merging of the realms remained. Remnants of the invasion force roamed freely and had to be dealt with." All of this is canon, considering Raiden with the help of the Elder Gods actually was the one to defeat Shao Kahn. The realms did temporarily merge (resulting in the Elder Gods intervention), and many of Shao Kahn's minions (Goro, Kintaro, the Lin Kuei, Sheeva, Reptile and formerly Ermac for example) are still in Earthrealm. Hopefully the part about him dividing his soul and "placing them into four warriors" isn't canon, because Raiden still has to deal with the Netherrealm and Shinnok, and no way he could do that if his ending came true.

And also, for Ermac's ending to be fully canonical, Sindel's ending would have to be true, which it isn't. Edenia is still merged with Outworld, and of course both Sindel and Kitana are under Quan Chi's control.

All I ment was anything can change and this games hardly a month old speculating on the next game when we don't even know all their dlc plans is a bit premature
