Today's Penny Arcade Comic features Mortal Kombat. In the comic they recreate the moment we all have been before, when we forget the Fatality movements just as we finally defeat our opponent.

Tycho of Penny Arcade also had things to say about the game in today's related News Post. Here's a snippet describing the idea behind the comic:

Being able to perform a Fatality (or, indeed, any -ality) was akin to Alchemy in the arcades and pizza parlors of my youth, I've never really been able to muster it; the new one lets you go right into the menu and look at the commands, with your eyes, which communicate the needed inputs to your brain, and I am still unable to do so.

Has anyone else found themselves embarrassed by forgetting the finishing moves? I know I did this exact thing a few times over the past week. If you don't mind a REALLY negative crowd reaction you can always hit the pause button to look up the Finishing Moves at the end of the match.

Thanks to Scott Bishop from MKO for the tip.

This comic describes my life right now and I end up doing a lame uppercut instead.

hahahah :D that is hilarious.

I'm a proud MK (2011) owner since yesterday and played through arcade ladder with Sub-Zero. As I tried to pull off his stage fatality (as in the demo), I kept hitting my opponents with a stupid punch in the nose...

Lucky for me, Sub-Zero's winning animation freezes the screen over so no one can see my failure... :D

I laughed so hard at this comic when I saw it, mostly at Sub's facial expression in the last panel.

I've only memorized Johnny's fatalities, but they totally escape me when I'm online. Played quite a few matches yesterday with my ex and I only performed the fatality correctly once. It's so funny how that happens.

After MK 1 I never knew the fatalities cause they'd changed scorpion's fatality. But with the new menu i was able to pick up a few of them easily though i may not entirely remember them by heart anyway.

I used to pride myself on memorizing every ALITY in Mortal Kombat's 1, 2, and 3 ... even if I didn't do them like the friendships and babalities. Back in the days of the arcade, I was a brain fart's wet dream because you name the ALITY, I could rattle it off easy-peasy. That ended with MKT Trilogy with the inclusion of Brutalities. That when my brain said, "This is getting too complicated to remember".

Today, I still remember every fatality for MK1 and MK2 ... but I struggle remembering Stage/Pits, and gone are babalities and friendships. It gets worse with MK3 - I barely remember anything about it. Lucky to pull of a fatality unless I'm using Jax, Kano, or Smoke. Unlike this Penny Arcade comic, when FINISH HEEEEM appears, I end up just standing there like a stork on a battlement ... or a Radio Shack Employee ...... You've Got Questions? We've Got Blank Stares! :dontknow:

Update on my first post...

It was only recently I found out that Sub-Zero's Stage Fatality had changed from the demo to retail game... hahahahha :D

Boy... you can only imagine how stupid I looked trying to pull off that stage fatality, luckily for me, as I have the klassic Sub-Zero costume and fatality while trying for the (demo) stage fatality inputs, I pulled off his Spine Rip fatality... which I did not know yet at that time..

Due to the improper inputs on the game cards, I did this exact same thing for hours until I was told that Noob Saibot's Stage Fatality was written wrong.

If I can't get a fatality after 3 tries, I #1 check distances, #2 check if I've got the correct input from multiple sources.

Question...is there any way to choose which stage you fight on in vs. mode? It was R1 or R2 back in the DA trilogy IIRC...haven't tried it yet in MK9.

Yes it's possible. At the character select screen, hit Triangle on PS3 (you'll be able to select the stage)

Heh, my friends do this all the time. Competent players, they just seem to rush and fiddle around too much with "FINISH HIM/HER!".

I remember most of the fatalities from the first two games especially since I played them so much but forgot many of the ones in 3\UMK3 and MK4. In Armageddon though it's kind of moot since it's practically the same for everyone and is hellah easy to do. :p
