What if Raiden's amulet became a recurring plot device, used to distort the timeline? It would essentially open up for every single character of the entire franchise to return at any point if the writers would want for it to happen.

Why are people talking about MK4 and Deadly Alliance? We have a new timeline, folks! That means the future is uncertain, so it's fully possible that whatever happened in the first timeline might not happen at all in this one. We might never get to see Onaga again, for example.
