I love that intro. It has so much personality. So yeah, Rain is fabulous. Have you seen his MKX costume? The man sure likes to show off. And the intro also shows his power of storm. He doesn't just control water, he block out the sun with heavy storm clouds, he can make lightning strike from the sky, he can spin like a hurricane and be ready for battle without feeling dizzy or nausiated.

If you don't like Rain, then yeah, he's an easy target to make fun of. "lololol he spins like a ballerina"...
I'm actually impressed that ballet-dancers can spin like that without getting dizzy. I know I can't. Not to mention ballet is a beautiful artform that's considered sophisticated and has been so for centuries. So alright, compare Rain to a ballerina, nothing wrong with them.

I wouldn't even mention him if I didn't like him. But Intro is funny for me, don't take it that seriously.

It doesn't affect his gameplay nor his gimmick, at least he's unique unlike many characters like Kira, Frost and other copycats.

Reptile's main costume is good. Probably his best lizard look. Alternative is great too.
I like his lizard looks, but i think NRS should try 3D human form for once (just for satisfying fans).

They can easily pull it off. Since he is a reptile, they could explain his human form like it is a disguise, like a chameleon changing his skin colours to disguise. I'm sure that if he can go invisible, he can also imitate human skin colour. When he is defeated or making a fatality or let's say taking more damage during a fight, he loses his disguise.
If he dies in a future game, his ressurection also can be easily explained. He gets decapitated or dismembered, ok soo...he is a lizzard, he will grow new limbs and head.


The fact that reptile is a reptile, makes him have a lot of potential. His and many other charachters designs can be really creative and more interesting, but Boon is just so gay about Scorpion that he forgets about his other charachters and spends time making 100,000 useless alternate costumes for Scorpion.

I'm sure if I can think of dumbass ideas like those above that i gave, so can NRS. But spending much time for creating dozens of scorpion costumes wont do it.
Srsly though, i think this franchise will go downhill if it continues to be centered around one charachter. Just call the game Scorpion and some other guys or just leave it. Sorry for the rant.

Reptile... I really don't understand what's the deal with them not making him awesome. I've been completely let down by this character time after time, at least he finally got some lines to say. But that's hardly an improvement.

Like with Big Rigs. Oooh, the computer opponent can actually drive the course now, but does it let you lose? Of course not, it just stalls right before the end, giving you the opportunity to be "you're winner!"

I don't get why they cannot fully develop him into a character like Johnny or Kotal where they have a purpose and they're not just cannon fodder. If it's literally just to make the fans happy, sorry, this fan isn't happy.

As far as the trailers go - Scorpion and Sub-Zero got the 50/50 treatment in the announcement trailer, after which time Scorpion was never heard from again, while Sub-Zero played a huge role in the Story Mode trailer. Which also centered on Cassie Cage. As did the Cage family trailer.

Verdict: Scorpion got gypped.

As far as costumes go - Scorpion has 8. Sub-Zero, Jax, Kitana have 6. Johnny, Sonya, Mileena, Liu Kang have 5. And Scorpion gets a statue. The only category in which Scorp comes out on top... if you discount the fact that Sub-Zero, Jax, Kitana, and Mileena all have better costumes than he does.

Verdict: Scorpion comes out ahead. Kind of.

Also Scorpion always wins against Sub-0 in MK9 trailer, MKX trailer, Injustice Scorpion intro, MK9 select screen, MK9 collectibles, Kratos Trailer. Yes, good way to crap on your other most popular character.

Scorpion just got so popular due to media exposure the last few games, that it became bizzare.
Pretty sure Sub-0 was more pop. before this favoritism and overexposure started.
Probably Boon just couldn't handle it and made everything possible to make Sub-0 look like a loser infront of every average noob person who is introduced to MK.

I like Scorpion, but he seems so forced ever since Midway is gone.

I included the statue in the costume section. It's cosmetic fluff, it all goes in the same pile. Box art goes to Scorpion, sure, which evens out how much promotion he got with Sub-Zero's two trailer appearances. How about Brutalities? Kotal Kahn, Kano, Ferra/Torr have more than Scorpion. How about the comic book? Kotal has appeared in 11 issues, D'Vorah, Sub-Zero, Takeda, and Scorpion in 10, Sonya in 9, Raiden in 8, Reiko in 7.

So I guess Kotal is being shoved down our throats? Or maybe he's just an important character... which is also true of Scorpion... and Sub-Zero...

I stand by my earlier comparison to Wolverine. Anyone who thinks that NRS is overdoing it with Scorpion must be completely unfamiliar with popular media like everything Marvel and DC ever, Star Wars (Darth Vader), Lord of the Rings (Legolas), Pirates of the Caribbean (Captain Jack Sparrow), WarCraft (Thrall, Uther, Malfurion, Arthas, Illidan, Jaina, Sylvanas)... just off the top of my head... which all blow NRS's "obsession" with Scorpion clean out of the water. Scorpion's exposure is nothing to get panties bunched over, unless you want to bunch your panties and need an excuse.

You simply put do not know what you are talking about in this.

Wolverine went from being an important supporting character on the X-Men, to being the protagonist of 4/5 X-Men films, and being the only X-Man to have a solo film (two, actually!). There is literally an animated series in existence called Wolverine and the X-Men. You're comparing Scorpion, who shared the cover of MK9 with Sub-Zero and had the cover all to himself in MKX, with Wolverine, who for years appeared on the covers of Marvel comics that he literally did not appear in whatsoever, just to get people to buy the comic.

Is there a game called "Scorpion and the Mortal Kombatants"? No? Then Scorpion has got a long way to go before he can be talked of in the same breath as Wolverine.

Yeah, it just seems like there's some characters like Kenshi or Sonya or Takeda where they got really into the idea of changing it up with each variation, and then others like Reptile where it feels sort of like they gave each one a simple move or two and called it a day.

Sub Zero is not trash. The dude has some good combos, his slide is dangerous as hell, and he can take a combo-machine opponent and neutralize them with the right timing.
Goro is also damn strong in the right hands.
Liu Kang is Liu Kang.
Johnny Cage is awesome.
Shinnok... has never been better than Shang Tsung. Then again, Shang Tsung was reduced to a joke last game and thus Shinnok is cooler.

Sub Zero is trash compared to his past self/ves.
Goro is damn weak given his bulk, speed and the sheer amount of hits he needs to deal damage (read: give meter to opponents and leave himself open to being combo broken).
Lui Kang is not Lui Kang. More like Louis Kangez, if anything... and he's dead drunk. Just look at his pre-fight walk-on! :lol:
Johnny Cage's reputation blinds people to how egregiously they screwed him up this time around. His combos suck. His 'nut punch' has lost all its lustre (esp. now his feral daughter has the move too) and his moves overall are stagnant and have lost their personality... much like the character himself.
Shinnok is as cool as it gets, as far as Z-grade, lava-themed boss designs come.

Just watch how few of these characters cited will be prominent at Evo. And that's just an aside to how their actual designs have been bastardised.
