So Kung Jin is Gay

Ok just my 2 cents on this topic. I have seen quite a few people on here say "who cares if he is gay or not I just love to play the game" And for you guys who said that, great job. That is how I feel also. I see this game as it is a bad-ass fighting game. I don't understand why sexuality has to be brought up in the game or as a topic to this franchise.

Now I have heard people say " it is to show the gay's feel a part of, or included in this nature of game, so on and so forth, however so involved. My question is? Is the only way gay people will participate or take part of something or embrace an idea is buy having a gay person in it? And if so to me I feel that is kind of shallow in the reverse roll what is politically correct by any means.

And speaking on politically correct. NRS over the years has done the following.

Women fighters = Gender Equality.
Black fighters = Racism.
Kenshi = Disabled People.
Kung Jin = Gay Rights.

Hell all we need is a Muslim fighter and we can cover religion on the politically correct NRS chart.

Again I think this is a very stupid topic, but I see with NRS path it was something they would take, I just feel in a universe of ripping of head and killing does ones sexual preference really need to be spoken about?

I agree with you. So how did the romances in the story serve the story? Since sexual orientation isn't and shouldn't be a thing about Mortal Kombat?

No writer should ever be forced (or feel forced) to include anything that they feel doesn't fit in their work.

That being said, I don't think NRS was forced into anything. I think they're noticing the change in what is generally accepted these days and they are adapting to it.

I agree. Methinks that the fanbase is much more diverse than it was back in the 90s and we are a vocal lot and NRS IS a company that listens. So it makes sense that they weren't forced to make anything they didn't want to make.

I'm gay and have been playing MK since MK1, I never even asked for a gay character but it's nice that they put one in. I think your thought process on this is way out there to be honest. Characters that reflect the real world (yes even in a fantasy game) aren't a bad thing. Of course with every character in the game so far being straight and I'm guessing you are as well you may not understand what it feels like to have little to no representation in many parts of life. Again this wasn't a necessary thing, it's not NRS bowing to pressure from the outside as there wasn't any kind of movement going on for this to happen it's just a nice gesture by the studio. I also take issue with your last point about people of certain religious beliefs being included, religion is a choice and being gay is not.

Sorry JinCA if you think my thought process is as you would say FAR OUT there. I never said gay people asked for a gay Mortal Kombat character, I rephrase it to your understanding. From some posts/and forums I have read, the gay community seems to be pleased with a gay Mortal Kombat character, as in your own reply to my post you to said "" it's nice they put one in."" But the basis of my post was, whats the point? Its a fighting game. To you being gay or me being straight does it matter? Why have his sexual preference brought out in a fighting game, unless it is in a way to bring attention, or more media on a game buy using a tactic to grow hype.

As I have said earlier they have the Race/Equal Right/Disabled/ and now sexual preference covered all they need to do is add a religion of some type in the mix and they will have all ends covered. Yes I understand Gay is not a choice. But it was a choice by NRS to sneak it in there and for a purpose of controversy or hype having no other purpose to impact the game.

JinCA I hope you understand now, that was just my 2 cents. I hope this clears up what I was trying to say.

Dude... MK is more than just a "fighting game" at this point. There's a story. And in telling a good story, characters need to be explored a bit.

I don't see anyone mentioning any of the heterosexual characters and how they're sexuality is pointless. It's just because in the case of Kung Jin, it's a gay character. There's no reason to NOT have a gay character. There's a story, there's character development (usually) and sex/love is a huge part of life. It was going to happen eventually. Saying MK is just a "fighting game" is not an excuse to exclude things like that. Sorry.

No offense, but Mortal Kombat will always be a fighting game first, yes there is a story, The Story of Moral Kombat is the struggle of realms and power characters have. Life and Death, the tournament. Again as I have posted before for a fighting franchise to bring in sexual preferences is a silly way to get more hype to the game. If NRS wants to explore the sexual side, or tell a much bigger in-depth story of Mortal Kombat by all means go head, contact WB and Hollywood and make a movie on screen. Watch actors portray our favorite characters on the BIG SCREEN, but in the realm of video gaming and fighting, we don't need any unnecessary attention to a great fighting platform. I don't care if GORO can masturbate with all 4 of his hands, I don't care that Kano has a fetish for anal beads, and I really don't care that Kung Jin's has a heart for another, being man, beast, or god. Its a fighting game lets keep it there.

It's done though. You might disagree with it, but it's done. And there's nothing you can do about it. Apparently NRS shares our sentiment more than yours.

Oh, and just to clarify, I do not say this to antagonize you. Just stating how things are.

Yes, your right it has been done. But the topic of this post is "So Kung Jin is Gay" I believe this post is open to people opinion's about him being gay, and mine opinion was. Does it matter? No. That was the point of my post that and my 2 cents that's all.

Omg. It's 2015. Video games have evolved beyond the basic formula. Everything has a story and fleshed out characters now. Even so, story has always been involved with MK in some way shape or form. I don't understand why you're protesting this. NRS is giving us MORE content beyond "This is Kung Jin. He uses a bow/staff. Fight as him."

Kung Jin's sexuality isn't a way to generate hype. What world are you living in? It wasn't even confirmed until people started asking one of the developers. It's just a little piece of background for a character who is new to the series. And honestly, many people including myself, hope to see it fleshed out more in the future. Cause why not? How anyone can turn down extra content is beyond me.

Sexuality still doesn't matters, if anyone is worried, but it's adding much more to the character.

For exemple, romantic relations were always hinted, but never developed.

Now, they were developed because we are dealing with generations.

Kung Jin's sexuality was dealt with not in the same spectre, but as an adjective of the character.

I see no problem on what happened. There was no spam. No appealing. He thought he couldn't be accepted, and Raiden said, no, forget it, they don't care.

That was clever. It won't change nothing on the story, but the character becomes more rich.

If it had appeared in some political reason, something that would abuse the story, I wouldn't like.

But it didn't. So I don't understand why it couldn't be there. It was as irrelevant and important like...Mileena sleeping with Baraka dialogue.

I'm living in the same world as you are. Yes I love extra content. I want to know more about Kano or maybe about Raiden before he was a god? Was he a man or another being?? Yes yes I want to know more, being serious. But as for me, knowing a character's sexual preference as content is like me sitting around thinking if Sonya Blade paints her toe nails pink or blue?. Its useless info when it comes to portraying a life and death struggle in the world of Mortal Kombat.

And I am not protesting NRS for this, I love the game, I want people to buy the game. Now there are things in the game I don't care for and I promise Kung Jins sexual preference is not even on my lists of complaints. I was merely adding my opinion about him being gay on this post that was created for our opinions.

Kung Jin's sexuality was the reason he didn't think he'd be accepted by the Shaolin. It played a part in the shaping of his future. He clearly struggled with it at some point and Raiden reassured him that it wasn't the road block Jin seemed to think it was. It was a nice way to incorporate diversity without shoving it down anyone's throat. You say you don't have a problem with it and yet here you are arguing against sexuality in MK in general - Usuing Jin's as the face of your criticism. One's orientation adds something to their character. Especially when someone is gay. Just be glad it was a subtle (and painless) representation of someone who struggles with it.

How is this relevant to Mortal Kombat?

How is Jacqui and Takeda getting together relevant? How is Sonya and Johnny being divorced relevant? How is Jax being a farmer relevant? How is Hanzo drinking tea with Kuai Liang relevant? How is Reiko and Mileena sleeping together relevant?

It's relevant, because CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Because it is not all about fighting eachother.

I do find it funny that the reveal has been met with so much resistance despite one of the main arguments being that it is "irrelevant". If it doesn't matter, why do you care so much?

Because he's a character in the game...?

Hi. Nice to meet you.

I thought the focal point of Mortal Kombat was crushing your enemies, seeing them driven before you, and hearing the lamentation of the women. I'll be genuinely upset if homosexuality ever takes first priority in the story.

How is Jacqui and Takeda getting together relevant? How is Sonya and Johnny being divorced relevant? How is Jax being a farmer relevant? How is Hanzo drinking tea with Kuai Liang relevant? How is Reiko and Mileena sleeping together relevant?

Nice to meet you, Incubus.

Where are the open statements or tweets, about Jax becoming a farmer, and Johnny and Sonya getting divorced, please? Their character development must be equally as important, right?

"Because it is not always about fighting each other".

I humbly disagree. MK is primarily a fighting game, and always has been. I understand character development is necessary, but it irks me that NRS have to come out and say "Kung Jin is gay"! like we should care or something.

I'm sorry if I came off the wrong way. I have nothing against homosexuals as Human Beings. I just feel like NRS are trying to pander to the mainstream media or something along those lines.

In a martial arts game about fighting monsters and defeating conquerer's, I don't see why everyone has to know Kung Jin is gay. It's just not as important to the focal point of the story.

Peace and have a nice day.

How is Jacqui and Takeda getting together relevant?

It's not relevant.

How is Sonya and Johnny being divorced relevant?

It's not relevant.

How is Jax being a farmer relevant? How is Hanzo drinking tea with Kuai Liang relevant?

Jax being a farmer isn't relevant but it DOES explain him getting away from it all, after he got freed from Quan Chi's clutches.
Hanzo and Kuai trying to squash the beef is relevant because Kuai and his clan can finally get relief from Scorpion's stupid vendetta and the Shirai Ryu.

How is Reiko and Mileena sleeping together relevant?

It's not relevant.

If it doesn't have to do with why 1 of the descendants are around or on the main roster, then love interests are not relevant in MK.
If Jax and another male character had gotten together and adopted Jacqui, THAT'S relevant to MKX.
If nothing comes out of those relationships, gay, straight or otherwise, then it's irrelevant to the story of the Earth and other realms being in complete disorder and where people are fighting for the survival of said realms.
Period.
